Nintendo has announced its E3 plans: the Nintendo World Championships are coming back after 25 years. The championships are on June 14. The company will also have a “Nintendo digital event” on June 16 at 9 a.m. PDT, and their Treehouse group will return with another set of all-day livestreams

I was wondering if they were even going to be there.

Another digital event. Kind of lame, but at least the last one was entertaining. Some people thought it was better than either Sony or MS's presentations.

wshowers, Hope you don't mind, I altered the title to match the other Pre-E3 threads. I'd like to distinguish that sort of warm-up discussion from actual E3 announcements and info.

Cool.

Far better.

Yeah, I think I rated it higher at the time.

Still, I prefer the presentations. Submitting a video feels a little bit like cheating... well, that's not the right word. What I mean is, Sony and MS have to make an effort, and they have to take the risk of putting on a live show -- a long one, in front of an audience filled with professional skeptics and evaluators. There are a lot of things to be choreographed and a lot of things that can go wrong, from flat presentations to botched segues to lame demos to technical glitches.

Nintendo, on the other hand, takes a very low-risk approach by submitting a pre-bottled video where they have control over every single variable. Granted, it's an entertaining video, but still ... seems a bit chicken to me.

If MS and Sony did the same thing, E3 might as well fold up its tent and go home. We could all just wait for their videos to be released. I like the atmosphere created by live presentations, even if they can be a bit boring.

I don't know, they do those Tree House presentations that seem more fan inclusive than anything MS and Sony does at E3. Nintendo's shows seem IMO more aimed at the consumer only, where as Sony and MS seem consumer, Press and investor oriented. Given the nature of E3, Sony's and MS approach isn't wrong but Nintendo's is more entertaining.

Yeah, I see what you're saying about the fan focus. Their videos and streams are very fan-centric, that's for sure.

I still prefer the "live show" aspect of E3, though. To me, that's what makes E3 E3.

Nintendo has announced they will also be giving a "business presentation" at the same time as their digital event.

"Nintendo has started sending out invitations for a “business presentation” that will be held at this year’s E3. The company plans on discussing what lies ahead through Holiday 2015 along with “a sneak preview of what’s coming in 2016″.

"Nintendo’s business presentation will take place on June 16 between 9 AM and 10 AM PT. It’ll be happening during the same time as the Nintendo Digital Event, for what it’s worth."

Sure, but we get videos all the time. It doesn't feel like a special event at all. MS and Sony should put out a video as well as do a conference, IMO.

Here's the Bonus Round episode on Nintendo's E3:

Summary: Expect another fanbase-focused video. Nothing about the new console. More amibos. They don't have many games to talk about that we haven't heard about already ("sparse"), but they may announce something new and interesting. Andy M. suggested Zelda may roll to the next platform. They run out of material pretty quickly and move on to discussing MS and Sony.

Wha...? They won't be showing Zelda this year? WTF? That doesn't seem smart to me. The word "bulls***" comes to mind... God Lord, Ninty, just go multiplat already and ditch the friggin' console hardware space.

Those guys were pretty blase about Nintendo. Here's a more cheerful assessment:

I think this presentation will be a major flop. Last years was pretty good. This year I don't see anything in the pipeline.

I tend to agree. Zelda was a great cap to last year's presentation. I don't think they have anything similar this year -- Star Fox, another look at Zelda, maybe a Kirby or Yoshi game, and that's about it. Unless they've got a big surprise.

I can't believe anyone would actually suggest that the DLC from amiibos should be more integral to the game. It would only benefit the scalpers...

He's definatley a scalper.

Could we really hear about Nintendo's next hardware as early as this E3? I mean not a full reveal obviously. But some insight into what the hell it is.

They've said they aren't going to talk about NX this E3, so I don't think so.

I know this isn't really the place to talk about this but when Nintendo's new console rolls around, shouldn't Nintendo have a fleet of 1st party exclusives at or near launch? I think this way every year and Nintendo never does.

I'm still pumped for this. Nintendo can still surprise us.
