Man, I've just lost it for Nintendo.
My brother brought his Wii-U with him on vacation. He picked up an extra controller and Mario Kart just so we could play together with our significant others. I was excited to play Mario Kart, myself, and to try out Smash Bros.
I played a bit of Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and That Zelda-Dynasty Warriors game. I've lost all interest in picking up a Wii-U.
I had always planned on getting one for Mario Kart, but after playing it for a bit, I can't say it grabbed me. I love the visuals, but it was just boring, and frustrating with the lack of momentum-based physics and constant start/stop that happens when randomly hit by an attack. Yuck. Just killed it.
Smash Bros was a total miss for me as well. It's not totally surprising as the game has never appealed to me in the past, but I
WAS surprised at how much lag there is between the button press and the action. It felt very unresponsive to me, and It didn't make sense in the sense that It wasn't animation based. It was also tough to keep track of my character.
I did have some simple, mindless fun with the Zelda game, but I could definitely see it wearing thin after a bit. Not enough depth to the combat for me.
I don't mean to poo-poo anyone's taste or love for Nintendo's machine, but I wanted to share my experience, and I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it. Sorry for the downer. I guess the Big N has just lost it's magic for me
