Official Thread Octopath Traveler

Oh s***, I'm dumb. There is a demo up for this right now in the EShop.

I never did beat Bravely Default but I enjoyed what I played. Looks like this might be similar to that in some aspects?

From handheld mode because that's the only way I actually use my Switch:

Gorgeous game. The artstyle, dare I say is a perfect evolution of the SNES style which is still incredibly viable IMO.

The game also sports a nice soundtrack and a decent amount of voiced work, which I wasn't expecting for some reason.

Yeah. I agree this game is damn good! Also this is an unreal engine 4 game. Doesn't look like it but it is.

Playing the crap out of the demo. Loving it. Also wasn't expecting the voice work!

The more I play the demo, the more the game needs to be called what it is, a SaGa game.

Yeesh, the game doesn't translate well in stills, imo. In motion, however, it looks fantastic!

Alot of the reviews have concerns over how the story is told over 8 different characters. They also have issue with the amount of grinding that the game requires. Everyone loved the HD-2D sprites and soundtrack.

Also note that alot of the reviews don't have scores. The reason being many of the websites/publications have not actually finished the game before they puplished their reviews. For example, US gamer was 50 hours in and felt like the were not close enough to give a final score. Same with GameInformer. Kotaku finished the main story line in 36 hours but from the other reviews and Square themselves, its obvious they missed some things. Game review scores seem to conflicted with this game.

The overall consensus seems to be if you enjoyed the demo, you'll enjoy the game but be aware it is a massive time sink.

I will add scores as review outlets finish the game.

Its looking like too many review sites rushed through this game to put up a review namely Kotaku. There is apparently a post game epilogue that ties the stories together. They and alot of other review sites missed it due to rushing through the game. A couple of site have found it and the strategy guide for it has a walk through.

Wondering if I should grab this or Captain Toad. Never played Toad on Wii U.

Depends on your love of jrpgs. From my 3 hours with it so far, it is a love letter to the Jrpgs of the SNES era. Difficult but fair, with a great soundtrack and exceedingly long with respect to play time. So far, better than Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

I enjoyed the demo a lot but I wonder if I would finish it. I liked Bravely Default a lot as well. I also am deciding betweenness Nier.

Yeah I can see this game being long. I'm 5 hours in and still haven't gotten all the characters yet. And of the ones i do have, I'm just complete chapter 1 of their story. This is going to be a long burn.

Played the 3h trial...meh, voice acting is bad and the monologues are too long and boring and this from someone who usually love good jrpgs (there's not many good anymore though). Overhyped as always when these japoonese styled indie-like games comes out.

This isn't a Nintendo issue. This is a Square Enix issue. They didn't anticipate the popularity of the game or didn't believe it would sell that well, as they didn't manufacture enough cartridges.

If I liked turn-based games I would so get this. I wish it was more like the 16bit action rpgs in terms of combat.

I love the art direction.

Don't like turn-based. Do you even game bro?

Just playing but ya, i love turned-based games. Also like real time action games. It's all good to me.
