Ori and the Blind Forest

A big thank you to everyone that recommended the game and posted impressions. I really had no intention of picking this up, especially at $20, but reading this thread I just couldn't resist. Boy am I glad I did! What an amazing game so far. One of the best I've ever played for sure and easily worth the price.

Just did the water part and it wasn't as hard as i thought (I still died a lot) but that was from me just messing up the timing. Such a relief once you get out, I really liked the puzzle on the right hand side i was like da fuuuuq do i do here then i clicked and spent 15 minutes trying to do it. The bash ability is cool fun.

Everybody loves Ori.

Bought it on day one, but only started playing last night. The gameplay picked up fast. I'm really enjoying it.

Just got out of the Misty Woods. That place made me yell bad things at my son.

The way that level's backgrounds warp and sway don't help either.

But I have to say that this game has the best gameplay mechanics of any game of its kind that I've seen in a long time.

Now I'm in the forlorn ruins. I am totally stuck. I have the gravity sphere and I'm stuck at the orange squares And I have no idea how to proceed.

I got stuck there for a bit, died like 100 times in that place.

Those orange platforms. When you jump off one gravity goes in the direction of your feet. So you know how you walk up that ramp and get sucked onto that one with the spikes to the right of it. Walk around to the opposite side to where your feet are pointed away from the spikes and jump, gravity will pull you to the left and your goal is hit the other orange blocks and do the same until you've got all the keys then navigate to where you need to go.

I've just made it to the Forlorn Ruins, the Misty Woods were tough! It was the first time that I felt like some of the deaths weren't my fault, as you were depending on the environment to react a certain way and that wasn't always consistent.

I haven't started the Forlorn ruins yet. I'm afraid!!

Just finished the game, what a fantastic experience. It's going to be hard for a downloadable game to top this, and I suspect we won't see that happen for quite some time. Now to take a break before my second play through haha.

I will say if there is one criticism I have is that the game got a little too frustrating at times. A challenge is nice, but some parts were really rough. I tried to do 100% completion but only made it to 97%. I did die 668 times LOL.

I don't think it'll be better, but I think Below will at least be in the same league. Can't wait for that one.

Finish the game yesterday, died a bunch. Overall a very solid experience, if I had anything to nit-pick it would be the over dependence on one of Ori's abilities (Bash) and the story seemed to loose steam rather quickly.

So.... I'm out of the Forlorn Ruins and now I can't go back for 100% because the only path to it is blocked. Curse the devs for over looking that.

So let that be a warning to those who haven't gotten to that area yet. Make sure you cover the entire map before going up into the final room of the area because you won't be able to return once you leave.

Yeah, happened to me as well. Problem is, the path to the final room is not clear. I had two ways left to explore and I chose the wrong path.

Aye. Same thing here. The final room was on the left. Not sure why they didn't add a objective marker. Mildly annoying.

668 deaths. Nice. That's a little over one death per minute (assuming a 10 hr game).

I hope this game doesn't annoy me with all the deaths and such. I am okay with a hundred deaths or so in the space of a long game, but 668 in a short game will probably get on my nerves. I hope they get you back in the action quick, and there isn't much backtracking involved.

Well, I will say a big part of that is if I got hurt on a section and I had just saved, I would just kill myself and start over. I did that quite a lot!

A lot of deaths, mine at least, were either suicides to reset my health if I did a section poorly or simply experimenting with ways to get to places to get items. Basically, many deaths will occur with you being fully aware that they will. You get back into the action so quickly, it is often quicker to die than to backtrack if you end up somewhere you don't want to be.

Deaths are really nothing to worry about IMO. As OJ said, happens so quick sometimes it's the easiest way.

Good to hear. 668 deaths made me wonder how much patience was required.

Just save often. You can save whenever you have energy and stable ground, pretty much. I'm almost done, and I have under 300 deaths, I think.
