Ori and the Blind Forest

The deaths don't seem so frequent when you're playing. I know reading 300 deaths is probably off putting but it's not like that..not frustrating except a couple sections.

I'm not that far into it but agree. Dying 300 times in platform game isn't that much really and from what I read, the game gets hard in spots but not too hard. I usually die just not paying close attention to my life bar and being careless. The game doesn't hand much to you and players should want that. Games that are too easy get boring pretty quickly for me unless there is another hook (great story, etc.). I like getting good at games and being able to beat the complex scenarios presented as a result. There is a fine line between hard and too hard though. I do think they could have been a bit more generous with the save system. It's pretty much "on you". Now, I almost always save immediately when able to do so even if relatively close to the old save. Too many times I've just forgotten and had to go back more than I wanted to. While I tend to gravitate towards puzzle/platformers instead of pure platformers, this game is definitely my speed and has other aspects worth experiencing as well (namely the beautiful visuals). Really enjoying this so far.

Bought this on launch, but still haven't played it. I'm having outpatient surgery next Tuesday and am saving it for something to do after that. Listening to all the praise here is killing me and making the wait that much worse. I should stay out of this thread until then. Glad to hear so many are enjoying it though.

If only UPS would drop off my copy of Bloodborne to distract me already.

Just finished the game in 10 and a half hours at 99% map completion and all but one item found. Just over 500 deaths.

What a wonderful game. I hope that ending hinted at a sequel.

Misty Woods!!! That's all I have to say.

Just started playing. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I still got choked up at the beginning. The visuals are beautiful. The movement is smooth. I am a little tired of 2-d platformers, so I'm not sure how far I'll get in the game, but I'm enjoying it so far.

You will finish it. The game gets better and better the further you progress.

I am tired of the 2d platformers as well, but this one is just a joy to play :D

Ori profitable after only one week.

Posted by a Moon Studios dev on GAF:

"Business-wise, Ori was already profitable a week after release and Microsoft is super happy, so we'll see about Ori's future :)"

He also says: "There are 5 potential things we have in the oven right now (spanning from smaller to _huge_ projects) and I'd love to talk about these games, but as usual, we have to keep things secret for a while longer."

Lost my save. When I relaunched the game after a couple of hours of downtime, it was just gone. I lost a couple hours of work. Weird. I read on Gamefaqs about some other people having issues with saves disappearing. Oh well. I'm going to go play something else for a while. The game was beautiful and well-made, no doubt, but losing all that progress annoys me, and I don't feel like repeating it.

I think Ori may be one of the few games I wouldn't mind having to restart!

It's a great game for sure, but losing all your progress sucks no matter what game it is. I'd probably step away for a while too.

That's what i was going to say. Someone said it's the best 2d platformer since the SNES days. I'd have to agree with that. I can remember replaying games over and over back then because that's just what we did. Ori took me back to the glory days.

"Ori and the Blind Forest creator Thomas Mahler is disappointed with the way video games handle World War II and hopes to do something about that with one of his next projects."

"Mahler's idea for a "Schindler's List for games" is simply called Project Memoir, which he describes in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz as an "extremely controversial" and "story-based game" rooted in true events outside the World War II battlefield."

"In the interview, Mahler highlighted what he refers to as the "embarrassing" treatment of World War II in video games."

"There are so many World War II games coming out, and every single one misses the boat on the really interesting things you can tell here, super-fascinating things in terms of human psychology, the history of mankind, and so on," said Mahler. "And every single game was just about, well, shoot some Nazis. It's just stupid."

I have to restart the game for the 3rd time. Once for a glitch at 42% where I couldn't jump out of the water in Misty Woods. Now at 82% complete, I saved my game right where one of those rotating fire beams are at and I caught myself in a loop where I'm coming out of the save point and instantly getting killed by the fire beam.

Don't even ask why I saved right there. I do some stupid $hit sometimes.
