Outcast: Second Contact

Coming this Fall to PS4, Xbox, and PC.

"Outcast was originally released in 1999 and was one of the very first 3D open world action-adventure games. It used software voxel rendering techniques to create a vast and immersive 3D world, offering a movie-like experience with 15 hours of dialogue, a symphonic soundtrack and 50 hours of thrilling adventures!

"With Outcast’s never before seen level of freedom, it was something truly extraordinary for the time.

"Ever since, Outcast fans have been asking for another trip back to the alien planet of Adelpha. Now is the time!"

I've never played the original or even heard of it, but apparently it was a "goddamn revolution" at the time (Kotaku). The trailer doesn't grab me -- the environments look empty -- but maybe I'm missing something.

Cool. I've never even heard of it though.

I remember it for being one of the first games to use voxel graphics. I never got to play it though.

The update looks good. But it suffers from an issue that a lot of those games did in that Era, an empty looking world.

Yeah, that world definitely looks kind of sparse. Developers have learned what to do with an open world in the last 18 years (and had the tech to back them up), but back then, I guess they hadn't really figured it out yet.

I heard there was a Kickstarter for it 3 years ago, but it failed. I guess they got financing somewhere.

I'm just now getting familiar with this IP since the sequel is out. It's less than $2 on Steam. I think I'll be picking it up.
