Path of Exile coming to Xbox One

Not sure why you used a poison support instead of fire/cold damage or freeze/ignite support. I can only assume you have done so for leveling reasons and are waiting for skills like Flickr Strike or Reave or something.

Yeah, I was basically trying to keep leveling the poison support for when I got flicker strike or whirling blades, since I hadn't reached that point yet. I kind of think an elemental + poison DoT build could be fun, but I don't want to restart again just yet; I'd like to get further than the start of act 2 before I start screwing around with builds again. :)

I started over

One of the best F2P games I've ever played on consoles. They did a great job on this.

I started my character over with some of you guys tips in mind. Much better now.

I've found with each character I build that I'm able to improve my loadout and points assigment it's the more I understand how it all works.

The content is just crazy. I've just started on the end game and it has its own story built over 126 different maps that you can play.

I feel like I've ripped someone off by not having paid for this game. It's stuffed with content, I feel like I'll probably get some stash space down the line.

As cool as that $400 DLC set looks, yeah, that'll never ever, ever, ever, ever, everevereverevereva be bought by me.

Wait. So this game is actually good?!?

Yes.

Okay, I've played a bit more this weekend and remembered something about an alternate weapon spot, but I don't for the life of me know how to put a weapon in an alternate slot. What's the trick for this, or is it a PC-only thing?

Yes.

Yeah I know what you mean. I bought the 20 euro starter pack that gave you some cosmetic items and 200 store credit along with some extra tabs.

Highlight the weapon you want to equip to your offhand and press B to equip it. Of course, we're assuming you meet the requirements to equip it.

I've noticed that if the weapon as gems in the sockets you will need to use Y to pick up the weapon and place it in the off hand for use.

If the stuff was priced more reasonably I would have bought lots of stuff. But I don't feel bad about not buying anything after seeing the greedy pricing and them making you pay to be able to sell stuff.

f*** them.

Yeah. The hundred hours of game time you've gotten is just terrible. ;-)

I do agree the cosmetics could be cheaper.

Has nothkng to do with game quality or time played.

The prrices are ridiculous, end of.

And that game quality can't be delivered without investment. So saying "f*** them" is a little harsh.

When you charge $45 for a single armour set then you can kiss my ass with that s***.

I agree with both of you. The prices are about 5-10 times what they should be. Maybe they have random massive sales or specials? I get the devs need to get paid, but I have to imagine cutting prices by 80% might see a sales spike that would more than offset the lower price.

Maybe keep the ultra powerful or unique accessories expensive but at least have a more manageable tier for casuals?

I've read a far about this. There is a model used in F2P games like this called Whale Fishing. Basically it uses the whole expectation that the vast majority of people don't want to pay anything. At all. But there will be a few with a large disposal income where the price isn't an issue. And when I say a few I mean less than 1% of the total gamers. So financially they make more money out of a few buying high price items than many buying low to medium price items.
You wouldn't think that the case but it appears to be.
The counter argument is always why can't they stagger prices and so forth but I guess that's what they use the sales for.
It's interesting stuff.

Which would have made sense 15 years ago. But that assumption in todays climate seems outdated. We live in a gaming world now where microtransactions and DLC are everywhere. The pricing structure in this method are akin to prices we saw in the first slew of Micro'tions supported games. Only F2P games cling to that outdated assumption, everybody has evolved beyond it.

It's high priced so that not everyone has it. What better way to make a rare elite armor purchaseable, yet still rare and unique than to attach an absurd price to it? If everyone could buy it cheaply and easily right off the bat it turns into a situation where it makes a head turning, lose your s*** when you see it armor intro a pretty common armor or "literally everyone has the same exact s*** on, and it is boring, wtf" situation.

It makes sense and yeah they would certainly earn a f***load more money if it were cheaper but then they run into that other problem which seems more like a base of principle than actual greed.

Hey, I'm no economist but that's what they are doing and it's working for them so while it might be say it's outdated, the facts would show otherwise.

Are there facts showing that isn't the case? The method being successful isn't a fact against the antiquated argument...and since it seems like all popular F2P games ln console use the same method it leaves me wondering what data one would use to base the assumption on in the first place.

I may be wrong, but if you look at the modern gaming industry it does seem like an illogical assumption. But I guess if it wofks why bother trying somethkng else.

They don't all use the same method though. Grinding Gears are not time gating or level locking, or using any form of Pay2Win in their game, unlike nearly every other F2P game on the market. Instead they are going for the whales knowing these players will like the status of having expensive cosmetics for their characters so that other players go, wow, that's a cool looking character.

For the rest of us they have the flash sales which seem to offer decent discounts.

And yeah, it must be working... look at the quality and quantity of what they have delivered. They should sell their services to other F2P game companies to show them how to do it right.

I've given them 20 Euro anyway so I'm happy I've contributed to the game. I may or may not buy something on sale at some point.

Name a popular console F2P game without ridiculous prices, there aredn't many. Hence why it seems like they all use this method. Pay to win is just an added mechanic to maxamize sales. Which is why GGG made selling cost money.

That I know - I've been dual wielding the whole time. I was talking about the second weapon for weapon switching (and leveling gems) but I finally found something that said it was coming for XB1 but wasn't in yet. Most of the info I'd seen so far on the game was PC-based so they mention that there as a common thing to do for leveling gems.

They all have ridiculous prices but they also nearly all have pay to win or time gated leveling, which PoE does not have, in any shape or form. That's the core difference in their strategy. They offer the full game and content (and we know that is quite a lot of content) completely free of charge and with zero inhibitors on your game play.

I'm about to take on Act 2 boss. Any tips? I'm a duellist but have somewhat of a tank build going on.

The thing with fp2 games they do have LTS.
Which means they will get their money back and more.

They are good games that are free to play.

Warframe
SMITE
Gigantic
Path of Exiles
Neverwinter

These games I support and had the best time playing it.

not really. Just get your hits in as fast as you can and back off when you need health to recover.

This game plus the Spotify app on XBox One is a great combination. I found some Movie score stations I followed that have hundreds of the best movie scores. Goes great while playing this game.

My character is starting to take shape. I just wish I had more time to play. Loving this game.
