Persona 5 (Feb. 14)

Another top PS4 game/exclusive. You have to wonder which will be the first dud for the console this year.

Looking damn good. Got it pre-ordered but I'm still working at Horizon and then Nier so it probably won't be until at least May at this point. And it looks to be about 100 hours of gameplay so that will keep me busy for a long time.

Ive never played a Persona game ethier but its definitely caught my attention. Pretty cool the way it takes pkace in a comic stylized modern day Tokyo. I think ill pick this up.

Downloaded the game this afternoon and played for an hour. The graphics (art style) are really cool but im hoping the game opens up alot as it progresses. It feels far too linear and lacks any real freedom. Not sure I can enjoy a full game like that.

I've been doing a lot of research into this game because its been years since I've played a JRPG. In my digging I've come across info that the first 8 hrs or so are basically taking the player through all the different systems and mechanics. After that, the player is let loose to do as they please tackling activities in any way they want. So the game does open up once the game is finished with its rather long tutorial which indicates a really deep game. In all the things I've read about completion time I haven't come across a time less than 80hrs.

I want this game. But I'm still nervous if all I'll like is the snappy presentation.

Well thats comforting to know. Thanks for posting the info.

Picked it up tonight (wish more games came with steelbooks) but will be a while before I get to it. Should probably play Nier Automata first as I've been sitting on that since launch but we'll see.

This game is starting to sink its claws into me. Just spent 15 minites looking for a cool wallpaper for my PS4.

Edit - Ahh screw it I bought P5 Joker theme off PSN store.

So im about six and a half hours in now. At first the game was alittle boring but mildly amusing.
After a few hours I thought "oh wow this is actually pretty cool". After my play session tonight where the game started to really pile on all this different stuff I could do my opinion has now jumped to somewhere along the lines of "holy s*** this is fukin amazing. I love this game".
The last RPG I played that blew me away like this was FFX on PS2.
No matter your age or personality I cant see any gamer not enjoying this.
Its just one of those titles that instills a sense of wonder in you and makes you feel like a kid again.

I just started to today and I'm already about 6 hrs into it and I love it. I really like the turn based combat and its deeper than I expected. And I haven't even got to fuse any Personas yet which will add an additional layer to the battles. The main characters are starting to take shape and the story has some mature themes like child abuse and suicide which is a welcome surprise. The game has done a excellent job of explaining things from the story and its gameplay systems. I am really impressed with the overall quality of this game. This game just screams style and flashiness which is something I love in my games so I'm having a blast.

Way to go Sony.......Yet another hit in a long line that has come out in just the last few months.

Just finished the first castle on the last possible day at about 13 hours.. Game is so good.
I love the dark adult story of the first act.

Nice. Morgana says I'm a little more than half way through Kamoshida's castle. I only have 5 days left so I'm not doing anything else until I complete this palace. I would have stayed in the palace longer if it wasn't for the fact that I ran out of SP for magic attacks. I haven't found a consumable that will replenish that while in a palace. I'm sure there is a vending machine out there that sells something for that but I haven't found it yet.

It seems strange to me that its taken this long to try out a game like this. After all, I'm a fan of anime and this has put me right in the middle of a mature anime with a slick presentation and fun turn based combat. This game starts out very linear and scripted but that's for tutorial purposes. Once that was over with it this game throws a lot of decisions at the player and with a limited amount of time it can get a bit tense.

After taking a break for a few days I spent time leveling up in momentos today and started the second castle. My character is currently at level 14.

Game is so addicting and interesting as f***. When I'm at work, I always think of this game lol. This game will end up being one of the best games I've every play this gen or ever. I'm on pace to put over 100+ hours on it like I did with Persona 4/Witcher 3.

Finished the second castle lastnight at exactly 30 hours. I liked it alot better than the first castle. Less confusing, harder enemies and nicer looking and more interesting environment.

I also completed the second palace. I got a little confused during the paint puzzle but it was no big deal. I like that I'm starting to get more powerful Personas that can deal damage to all enemies instead of just one. But now of course because of that I'm having trouble managing mana to perform those spells. I read that once you hit a certain rank with the doctor confidant you'll be able to purchase items from her that refill you mana pool so I've been hanging out with her every chance I get.

This is a much more focused RPG. No open world here with just hub locations and that hasn't bothered me one bit. I think its because the writing is so good. I think some might let themselves be fooled into thinking this is a kids game but it has very mature themes and a lot of dark humor. I think many of the adults are needlessly mean to the kids but as I progress some of them seem to be warming up to Joker.

I want to pick this up so bad, just reading about it and watching videos makes me jealous. Can't imagine how some people who don't even have a PS4 feel!

So many games though. Still gotta get to Nioh and Horizon first.

Damn. That is a great score.

Comments like these were encouraging to read and helped me to pull the trigger.

I really hope you enjoy this game as much as I am. Its totally different from anything I would usually play and I think that's playing a big part in why I'm having so much fun. I'm something like over 60hrs in after about a month of play and it gets better and better. The writing is really well done and I've come to care about a lot of the main cast.

It's good so far. I think I'm about 6 hours in. Just finished
rescuing the princess
. At first I wondered if I'd be hooked in, but I'm gradually getting to know the characters and understand the game's systems. I have almost zero experience with turn-based games, so that part is a little tricky for me. I found the character movement a little awkward at first, but I'm getting used to it, although I still don't feel like I have the amount of control I'd like. Some tweaking of the camera settings helped.

Other than that, though, I'm looking forward to continuing. My worries about the game were because I heard it described as a social-sim type game where you do a lot of socializing with high schoolers. That sounded a lot more boring to me than it actually is. I'm actually finding it pretty good. I'm surprised at the maturity of some of the themes they're hitting on, and I identify with some of the characters. And of course, the visual presentation is really stylish.

I'm still in the tutorial section, so I'm early on.

Pretty cool to see the positive impressions from people who haven't played a game in the series before.
