At the moment there is a 5 person indie dev team (Anticto) working on the Xbox port since at least March, supplemented by various MS 1st party developers since probably around E3.

Assuming the Preview is launching this month, Is it safe to assume that 7-8 months (assuming they started when they announced the Xbox version was planned for Preview) is probably about how long it will take to get the PS4 version up and running if Sony helps with development? Maybe less time since they'll have a more solid version to base off of (Xbox) than the very WIP PC version.

Is it? That would be cool, though the shoreline detail is lacking on SoT if you ask me, and that is what would be relevant for PUBG.

From the last page

  • They also get to share in a lot of Microsoft's Unreal Engine 4 technology extensions. For example, they're considering putting Rare's water techfrom Sea of Thieves in the game.

Microsoft publishing the Xbox version and pays the studio to make it. It's the same situation as Halo.

You wouldn't expect them to make Halo for PS4 or Switch!

And Sony dont own Spiderman or MLB and Nintendo dont own Bayonetta. I wouldnt expect those first party games on Xbox either. Publisher perogative

Well Sony own the movie rights at least which is why that's exclusive apparently

They dont. They have the rights to produce a live action Spidey movie every so many years, if they dont they revert back to Marvel. Its more like a loan with caveats.

The game isnt based on the movie so its likely unrelated anyways. My point is portbegging MS first party games has been going on since Gears and Mass Effect.

If I remember right EA had to get permission from MS to port ME1?

Not sure why Microsoft wouldn't just buy the IP/studio. PUBG is huge on PC, which is ultimately what Xbox always has been and is transitioning to with the Xbox One X. They love GAAS games and shooters, which fit right in with Xbox Live. Easy money baby.

Sure because MS paid for the development of ME1 but didn't own the IP so EAs Bioware purchase made future products multi. Intrinsically Mass Effect in part was a Microsoft game (and they are still the publisher today), and they allowed EA to put it in the ME trilogy many years later in exchange for timed exclusivity of ME2 most likely.

All we should glean from this PUBG deal is...

Back at E3 when it had only sold 1 or 2 million MS got the console debut for it. Like they did with Minecraft. Its just an Indie right? They don't count anymore.

After it started blowing up on PC, somehow MS convinced Bluehole that they would make arrangements for the Xbox version to be made and publish it themselves, ensuring the game arrived in 2017 and not late 2018 after 40 million copies had sold on PC. Same with Minecraft and 4j studios.

Minecraft eventually made it to other consoles....2 years and 20 million 360 copies later when Mojang finally got around to it, PUBG might take as long...especially if that deal is extending.

Basically MS is funding the port and publishing it to get it out this year.
No reason Sony or Nintendo couldn't have done the same in June....though there might be reasons now

No hurry for this game for me. My Xbox is working overtime right now with all these games coming out.

If the base model version (running on a PC) was accurate from 2 months ago, there shouldn't be much holding it back from coming out NOW as a beta in the preview program. It doesn't have to be perfect, just not Conan level of crappiness. My guess is still November 7, alongside the X launch to build launch excitement. However, if that's true we should begin to hear about it in the next few weeks.

You're telling me. They need to slow down with all these games. We waited 4 years for a little indie game like Cuphead to come out. Business is boomin'.

This Christmas I think is pushing it.....especially as we are in October and no X1 gameplay has been shown....

It's going straight to Preview though.

Brendan Greene literally said, "Soon" a few days ago. Hold onto your butts.

Indeed. Having just picked up Recore, and now Destiny 2, Cuphead, Forza Motorsport 7 and about to get Middle Earth Shadow of War, Ass Creed Origins, COD WWII, SWBF2, Project Cars 2 all on Xbox......and an Xbox One X purchase in a month (as well as GT Sport)....I am just overwhelmed with games now through December, it's crazy.

Unfortunately, you're going to have to uninstall those.

They don't count.

Yes Sony owns the movie rights to Spiderman.
They partnered with Disney to use him but he belongs to Sony.
