Official Thread Playstation VR

It would be ok if it was just a 1 time setup but having to redo it when I want to play an HDR game is downright annoying. I hope they can patch in an HDR pass-through or give everyone who bought in a free hardware upgrade. I would seriously be playing more VR if I didn't have to pull my TV out and rewire my setup.
That sucks too, because HDR is absolutely superior to er, SDR, lol. I wan't every game to have it.

Hooking up the PSVR disables your HDR support until you unplug it? That's extremely disappointing. I was kind of on the fence anyway but that pushes me away even more. I'm still not sure that it would be anything but a novelty for me although people seem to enjoy it.

I've been wondering about actual sales and what happens from this point on..

Is Sony's PSVR Doomed Heading Into 2017?
Jan 16, 2017

Everyone is buzzing over the Nintendo Switch right now, but I wanted to cast my attention backwards to a piece of hardware that came out just a few months ago, Sony’s PlayStation VR. Despite debuting in October 2016, the first console-based VR headset seems to have almost disappeared completely from conversation in the industry.

Sony themselves certainly isn’t talking about it much. Despite being more than happy to boast about how PS4 and PS4 Pro have now amassed over 50 million sales, they have yet to publicly comment on how many units PSVR has sold. Sony has previously said that sales for PSVR are “on track,” but will not explain what that means, exactly. Later, Sony’s Kaz Hirai elaborated a bit more to Daily Star Online:

“We've always said it's going to be a slow start, unfortunately, we did produce a lot of units but we ran out of stock in some retailers, but I think based on reports coming out of the holiday season, we're actually happy with the numbers.

"One of the reasons we're not talking about the numbers so much is because we don't want the numbers to take a life of their own."

The “life of their own” the numbers would take on is presumably a story about how PSVR is not exactly tearing down the house when it comes to sales. SuperData Researchpreviously revised their estimates for 2016 sales of PSVR from 2.6 million to 750,000, which is still more than Oculus and HTC, but obviously nothing to brag about, given Sony’s silence.

But as we head into 2017, even if Sony was predicting a slow start for PSVR, it’s hard to know exactly what happens now. Almost no one is talking about the system presently, and it’s unclear what’s going to change that fact going forward.

I can only pin down two specific dates for PSVR releases in 2017: January 24th for Resident Evil, and March 14th for Ubisoft’s Star Trek Bridge Crew. Everything else, another 14-15 upcoming games (and arguably none as big as these two), are assigned to either quarters or the year in general with no firm dates. Googling “upcoming PSVR games” yields outdated lists and no official results from Sony. On Sony’s own site, of the many PSVR games it has listed, almost all of them are already out with just a few upcoming in 2017.

My question now is how is this current situation turned around? Is there a game out there that’s going to make people start buzzing about PSVR again? Resident Evil, the game that was making people sick in demos last year? Bridge Crew, which is cross-platform across all VR? It’s hard to know which games could really break out for PSVR at this point.

Furthermore, Sony is in a tough position because at launch, the advantage the headset had was that it was cheap, and it would run off a PS4 you probably already owned. But in order for that to be possible, the PSVR is in fact the “bargain” VR set, where the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are the more powerful, more technically advanced units. The more time passes, the more outdated PSVR will appear as VR tech continues to evolve. So what happens then? PSVR 2.0, when the first one didn’t really even prove its case? Microsoft can tell you how well that went for Kinect.

I do not think that Sony is going to pull a Kinect with PSVR, at least not this year. I am sure that we will see some PSVR stuff shown off at E3 2017, albeit a bit less enthusiastically than we’ve seen previously. But if things don’t turn around? Yes, it is easy to imagine Sony washing their hands of the peripheral. They’ve done it before, and they can easily do it again. One of the greatest fears about PSVR in the first place was that if it wasn’t a big hit from the outset, that Sony would effectively abandon it. While that hasn’t happened, it’s hard to say that we’re not on that road either.

I don’t know what the future holds for PSVR, or really, all consumer VR in general, which frankly doesn’t seem to be in a great spot right now. The tech is exciting, but it has obviously not caught on fire outside of specific niches. For as much pressure as I’m putting on PSVR, we’re certainly not hearing loads about the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive these days either. But I think PSVR is in a unique spot where it exists as the one device that Sony is struggling to sell, and a prime example that even if VR is cheaper and easier to access, that still may not be enough in the current market.

Maybe Sony has some grand 2.0 master plan in their pocket, or maybe there will be a breakout title or two for the PSVR this year. But for now, it’s mostly silence, and it’s hard to know how exactly that’s going to change over the course of the next year as the tech continues to age and its games line-up fails to excite.

yeah cause my video wasn't a valid response to untellivision

He has tons of these types of links in every consoles thread except for?
Xbox based threads

Exactly. Like the opposite of you know who.

Anyway. Sales of PS VR is pertinent to the thread. Although it could go into the sales thread too.

Yeah cause I go in Xbox threads and post the negative BS articles/videos as often as he does in non Xbox forums

Hes 20-1 vs me when in comes to that so we are far from similar.

Ok you got me there. Still as someone on the fence, for PS VR, it's just information to me. Just as Shinobi's analysis is info that may or may not mean much.

PSVR has been sold out since it launched so any negative sales talk is foolish.
This is coming from a person who actually tried it and doesn't like it.

Don't you think Sony is hurting themselves though? I mean in the past few weeks, if I had found one I may have bought one on impulse. But they are just not anywhere to be found.

If they weren't available to sell I trust Sony has a reason.
If they bring games the demand should stay strong.
I guess we find out next month when/if they get more in stock.

GT Sport has my interest.

I'm also curious to see if MLB the Show will implement VR into this years game? That would be perfect.

At this point I do it just to watch you dance.

Please continue like we know you will.

I've tried to have open discussions with you but it's pointless.

In fact I think there might be a post or two of mine you never commented on. How about you respond to those first before I give you something new.

Anyone getting RE7 next week for PSVR? I preordered ages ago and can't wait!! Gonna be terrifying though!!!

I will be there Day 1. They should have included a spare pair of underwear with the game, that would have been brilliantly funny marketing.

Haha yeah that would be dope. I am really looking forward to it and also I know it will be genuinely scary. I might broadcast on twitch, I don't normally do this but might make me a little braver knowing some people might be watching lol

I played through midnight begginning hour again today and got the good ending for the first time. It still blows me away how immersive it is.
I read its about 15/20 hour playthrough, which for a single player non open world horror game I think that's pretty good and I'm happy with that. As much as I love pumping hour after hour into those massive open world titles like fallout 4 and witcher 3 etc it's actually kinda nice to have a game I know I am gonna finish in a few hours! (Still playing fallout 4, witcher 3 and MGS PP)

I will get RE7 eventually, but I'd like to go back and play through some of the old ones again, having only beaten 2 and 3. Not sure 7 really has anything to do with the rest though so maybe not worth holding off. Also don't have PSVR but I may grab one later this year and if I do I'd want to wait on RE7 for that as well.

The game looks great. Does the whole game take place in that creepy house?

Great scores, this may put VR on the map with proper software.

I believe the game takes place on one property, there may be some out buildings beside the main house and hopefully some outdoor scenes too.

Tomorrow is going to be creepy! I am ready to literally jump in to the world of Resident Evil!

Looks like these are slowly coming back into stock. I'm still torn on getting one when Amazon finally gets them in.
