Official Thread Playstation VR

I might be down to get this if they have some decent games, most everything I've seen looks average or below. I don't like that they are advertising this at a price assuming everyone has the camera just to push the $399 number. Very shady.

Well, based on Yoshida's comment, a pretty large amount already have the camera. A lot of people use it for Twitch and Ustream or even a mic. So i can see why it wasn't bundled.

I know around launch, the camera was extremely hard to find because everyone were picking them up. I remember Sony saying something about them underestimating it's demand and that more would be on the way, which were either selling too fast to notice or they took too long to ship. I didn't get mine until around 6 months after launch. So that kinda gives you an idea.

ps4 was $599 at launch in Aus so im guessing thsts the price here. I love to get new tech at launch, probably have to pass this time :'(
AUD$549. And the camera is $79.

Ouch.

But, if you wait until someone else is buying one, just jump them in the car park. Disguises are cheap, by comparison.

Actually there seems to be a second package coming. I wonder how
much they'll price it over this unit.

Don't panic: There's a version of the PlayStation 4 VR headset that has everything you need

http://www.techinsider.io/there-will-be-a-playstation-vr-bundle-with-a-playstation-camera-2016-3

Of course there'll be another bundle. It'll have all the stuff you should have for a complete experience, it'll also have the price that they would've launched at if they were being upfront with their customers. Not tiny, itty-bitty text along with your launch price saying you can't actually use this for VR unless you get your dumbass back to Gamestop and buy some more stuff.

or trade in an old console and get a few bucks.
Trade in an old console?!?!?! I'd rather hold the neighbours children hostage.

And wow that's a lot of cords! I never realized how many would be needed.

EDIT*

KOTAKU said:
This morning Sony Australia announced that PlayStation VR will be coming to Australia in October for the altogether reasonable price of AU$549.

The only catch? The PlayStation Camera, which is necessary for PlayStation VR, will have to be bought separately.

According to Sony, there’s a good reason for that.

Simply put: Sony believes that many people buying PlayStation VR at launch are the type of early adopters who already own a PlayStation Camera.

“We’re just trying to speak to that audience and keep the price down for that audience,” explained Patrick Lagana, Head of Product Marketing at PlayStation Australia.

“We looked at our audience who we create products for — especially new propositions like PlayStation VR — these people are going to be our initial consumers when it comes to PlayStation VR.”

Shuhei Yoshida, in an interview with Tech Insider, said the exact same thing: “We didn’t put it in because many people already own it.”

Patrick mentioned that Sony would absolutely work with retailers to help create bundles for people who do require a PlayStation Camera, but that would be on a case-by-case basis.

Pfft! Everyone knows only the dudes getting their willies out are buying Camera at that price. I may look amazingly youthful and fresh, but I wasn't born yesterday.

Well people do it towards consoles and games, so i figured that'd probably be some people's best bet. That way they can get the price close to where they need it before the pay-out. The great news is there is quite a bit of time to prepare. I'd also do some window shopping.

I'm not saying the price is too high, because in comparison to the competition, its really not. But.....the thing still cost $50 more than the actual console (without the added cost of the accessories). We'll see if they fly off the shelves or not.

Maybe though. Who knows?

Even if 75% of the community owns the camera(which I know is a high number) then that means the VR experience for the remaining 25% is not $399.

Sony is touting this $399 like everyone can be a VR owner at that price. Not true.

Pre=order asap cause it could fly off the shelves

I think it will do well for sure, but I think most smart people can wait, there is nothing in the lineup yet that says "killer app" hell even ps4's normal lineup doesn't have one of those yet 3 years in, some good games yes, but nothing everyone has to have like a Zelda or Quantum Bait.

A pretty large amount already own the camera, but how many Yoshida?

"We didn't put it in because many people already own it," Yoshida told us. Oh? How many people? "A large enough number of people," Yoshida said with a smile. He can't actually divulge numbers, nor could he offer a percentage — there are 36 million (or so) PlayStation 4s out in the wild. I asked if it was over 50% of owners; again, he couldn't offer a specific number.

Bullish!t The reason they didn't include the camera was to get an artificially low price.

My aim was so off on that. I so expected a standalone version and much cheaper.

Even still, with the support of PS4 games, too, which i didn't expect, i think its easily justified. I was sold either way, but it'll probably be a little difficult for those without the expenses to spare, though. Then again, it is the price of the PS4 when it launched, so maybe not.
Sorry, but one more thing that I had to bring up from the other thread that you were wrong about. Not to kick you while you are down, but it's kind of a deal to me.
The game was originally for the Atari, for you that don't know. :)

Actually, Battlezone was not "for the Atari", but an arcade game first, made BY ATARI ! Make no mistake, this game was an early attempt at a sort of VR-like immersion from the beginning, by looking through a scope. It also had vector graphics (like Star Wars Arcade, a few years later) to create 3D meshes, rather than using sprites. "For the Atari" insinuates that this was for the Atari 2600, when that was a really bad approximation..., "for you that don't know.:)"

And in turn, the following was "for the Atari" (2600) 3 years later.

Not. Even. Close.

I am in for at least 4, 3 of which will be flipped and or returned. Win, win.

I will pre-order accordingly tomorrow, will the pre orders be available at most major retailers?

That's exactly why i was more convinced that a standalone had to exist at a completely different price rather than a single package as a bundle like the Rift or Vive. See, they don't already have cameras to support their device already out in the wild, let alone the camera being multi-featured. So it made sense that if they did support one, it would be shipped with the product.

Once was and the origin are quite different, and i think that is where you and I happen to be on different pages here as that is where my memory lies rather than who gave birth first. But its good to know that, though. ;)

Just went to Pre order at GAME UK and the want a £100 deposit. They said they'll only be getting eight in store on launch.

Not that I don't already have VR compatible games, but i wouldn't mind giving this here a shot neither.

That's my biggest fear right there. I sure hope Sony can keep up with demand.
Or Sony will intentionally create limited stock to create a fabricated demand and slowly ramp up production? Sorry, with the hardware being finalized for at least eight months now, production shortages don't happen.

But they also ran out of the Eye camera when it launched! Demand for that must have been massive. :p

sold out at ebgames in aus. Not even a day on sale. Think limiting the stock to create demand is happening.

As bad as that would be, and I mean that would freakin' suck, but maybe that's part of the marketing strategy to make people want to show it off even more. I mean because telling a person is obviously not enough, right? Being that small would, I think, would create awareness because there are only so few of them
