Official Thread Playstation VR

Man playing Farpoint with AIM is crazy. I'm fighting the mech alien things and the gameplay loop is so cool, such a cool combo of stealth and action.

I was hiding under a huge piece of debris earlier, like a wing from a spacecraft and one of those mechs was walking beside me, I could make out the minor details in its leg armor while I leaned my head out to have a look, the little chinks in the metal the lighting hitting it just felt amazingly immersive. It felt like I was there.

I will get that sometime this fall.

What are your thoughts so far on what you've played?
Three camera arrived yesterday, but everything else gets here today. I mistakenly invited a couple over for dinner with my girl and I tonight. Oops. Maybe they'll cancel... So excited to try this tonight, though.

My advice is to record first timers, I've gotten some funny reactions. My brother's was priceless. I would upload it but he asked me not to lol.

My girlfriend actually recorded her mom when we brought the Gear VR over to show her family. After feeling the weight of my boxes, I can see where portability has its advantages. Anyway, the video is priceless!

Enjoying PSVR, but I Have some negatives, as well. I'm going to lay all of that bad stuff out first, in this post.

Negatives include limited play space. Yesterday, I realized that from the TV to my couch is too far by a couple feet, and it was putting me out of range as soon as I turned my head too far one way or the other. I played for a bit, a little closer today, and that was fine. I do think that they put a bit more trust in that camera than they should. It's no kinect!

The Move controllers are just okay. I'd say they are quite a bit overpriced, as they have not been updated from PS3 at all. Mini USB charging cords? Not Micro, but the larger Mini! These are like the ones I used on my digital camera from like 10 years ago. Wow! I bought the new Moves in the 2Pack, since I was worried about old batteries. I was not really surprised the batteries were drained when they arrived, but I was annoyed. They really should have put some sort of D-pad or something on there, too. Having to switch back and forth from the controller is silly, imo. Plus analg sticks would have been good for games. Maybe they could have say least added Move support to the UI? I'm not used to the PS voice commands yet.

Not happy about the sea of cables, either. I now really understand why companies are increasingly pushing mobile portability over horse power for VR. Too bad we can't have the best of both yet.

Three screen resolution is slightly better than GearVR with my Galaxy S8+. I bet a regular Galaxy S8 screen would be one par with PSVR, with the tighter pixel structure. The contrast seems about the same, and dark gray might be a bit lighter, as I think this is LCD, whereas the S8 is OLED. They look so similar though, that I have to wonder if this id's due to Samsung producing both displays. FoV was also very similar to my latest gen GearVR. I was a bit disappointed at first, with the demo disc menu being in lower resolution on the menu screen ance seeing write a bit of aliasing, but this improved with actual content.

I'm not quite as negative on it as this sounds. The content is where the PSVR will shine, and I know that. I'll get into my findings a bit later.

Yeah I think once you boot up some games designed for PSVR you'll see the differences more. Some of the stuff is downright fugly that demo disc menu is one of them.

Edit, be sure to download playroom vr, has a bunch of coop or controller vs heatset fun games. Free.

Also looks like Fallout 4 might be coming. If this uses the AIM controller it will make Fallout 4 a much better game.

Did you ever play that game above, the space sim I posted, End Space? It was Gear VR first thats why I ask. The developers said they've really took it to the next level with PSVR though, especially pro. Won all kinds of awards.

Yes, I have that game. I only ever gave it a single go around. I definitely had some issues getting used to the controls with it on Gear VR. I've been meaning to pick it up again, but I haven't used Gear in a bit. If I do, I'll let you know a more formed opinion.

Seems Archangel(mech game I posted above) is getting high praise(user and critic reviews)

Out of nowhere gem. It's $40 but they'll be down to $20 in no time.

Super Hot PSVR impressions are that of GOTY, even VR peripheral defining. It really is getting crazy high impressions.

Superhot is without a doubt the best example of VR implementation I've experienced, my god does playing this feel so fluid and badass.

Watching vids I thought, "yeah, looks fun I guess," but playing it is incredible. Best $20 I've spend in gaming since I can remember.

PSVR has sold 1.8 million unit according to Super data

https://vrscout.com/news/vr-market-adoption-2017/

The Playstation VR system was launched in October of 2016, and before it’s one year mark it has made over 770 million dollars. In the history of video game accessories, the Xbox Kinect was the fastest growing accessory in history. If we calculate that everyone paid full price at $150 (which they didn’t) the Kinect grossed 1.5 billion dollars it’s first year. Think about that. The Playstation VR headset has grossed at worst half of what the Xbox Kinect made, and it still has at least 3 months of sales left! Even at a much higher price point than Kinect, there is still tremendous monetization coming just from the hardware side for Playstation VR.

VR is growing, not dying, over 10 million headsets in the wild.

So I broke out the Gear VR to play End Space and also play the new Bladerunner 2049 Oculus experience. Bladerunner was cool, but I really started to feel the limitations of Gear VR on both accounts. Gone is the slight shifting of your head. You can still rotate, but you are in a fixed point. In Batman Arkham, you could even walk around a bit. Anyway, End Space seems decent after calibrating the controller. Its VEREY nausea inducing, for me. The lock-on has you follow the enemy with your line of sight. Wow, I missed the frame rate of PSVR right away! Yeah, the first mission (after the tutorial mission) was pretty short, too. Honestly, I think the game could be OK, but probably short. I think the total experience would be completely different on PSVR, though. It seems to be designed to push Gear to its limits, but it aspires to be more. Music is great!

That's good news. I was talking to the developer on reddit and they said they were making End Space a more meaty experience in addition to extra movement and graphical features. Batman is awesome! One of my favs. Superhot is one of the best examples of having to move around on PSVR, pretty insane actually you need a decent sized living room and be at least 10 ft from the camera. That game is a workout.
