Official Thread Playstation VR

Andrew House: "IThe danger is that if only PSVR succeeds, and the other platforms flounder, then VR does not get the install base necessary to attract AAA developers, and so it doesn't reach mainstream adoption.
if Sony is all about the exclusives, then other platforms don't come into it and we all know if they did... All VR games would be better on Vive/Oculus and Sony is doing themselves no favours with the lack of AAA games from themselves on the system.

Price is the all-important factor in getting VR into households, but the tethered use of VR is something the majority won't want.

I've put about 3 hours into Solus Project. I hated the first 30min, but since then it's become a memorable experience. The survival aspects combined with VR give a sense of immersion and tension that's unmatched. It's sort of tedious and slow paced(which I usually don't like) but it works here.

Also using the move controllers to walk around actually works well with practice, has me really excited for Skyrim.

Hands On: Is Skyrim Any Good on PSVR?

http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2017/09/hands_on_is_skyrim_any_good_with_playstation_vr

Pros and Cons. Cons first.

Cons:

- For starters, the developer seems intent on showing the title with PlayStation Move controllers, which makes for a less-than stellar experience. Navigation is handled using teleportation, a mechanic that’s irritated us in previous games. Yet it seems slower and more cumbersome than ever here due to the sheer size of Skyrim’s world; flashing forward a few feet every second or so just isn’t fun.

- The combat isn’t great either. [....] the tracking is buggy and frankly it’s just not very fun. Flinging a virtual sword about was barely entertaining in the PlayStation 3 era of the PlayStation Move, and it’s not gotten any better in the years that have followed. The fact is that it just feels really squidgy, because you’re effectively swinging a fake sword at fresh air, so it doesn’t really feel like you’re doing any damage at all.

- Loading screens completely break the immersion each time they arise. Rather than transport you to a nice three-dimensional space, the headset boots into cinematic mode – prompting a loading screen within a loading screen – before displaying a flat splash image and then reversing the procedure back into the game. Awful.

Pros:

- The good news is that, as far as we understand, the DualShock 4 will be supported as well – and this is how you’ll probably spend most of your considerable playtime.

- It can’t be understated how much PlayStation VR adds to the experience; seeing locations ingrained into your memory suddenly represented in virtual reality is impressive. The sense of scale is unparalleled; underground labyrinths which once felt small and claustrophobic suddenly tower overhead – and even old adversaries seem more threatening than ever when they loom over you at a full six foot tall. It’s that sheer sense of size – so often a highlight with PlayStation VR – that once again shines.

- Representatives did tell us that the build we were playing was very old, and we hope that means that a lot of our concerns will be ironed out come launch.

- We were also playing on a bog-standard PS4, so there’s no question that the PS4 Pro will improve upon everything that we saw.

I've heard so many different opinions on Skyrim. At least we have alot of options for the control scheme.

Another preview that just came in yesterday

Megaton Rainfall was pushed back to Oct 17. Something about "paperwork" supposedly. Either way, dick move delaying the game on the day of release. lol

What the hell. Delayed the day of release? That's brutal, lol. Must be a Sony thing. :really:

Below is legit the developer's delay tweet. Up until this point, we have no idea, just comes off like we knew about it all shady

Everyone was like "already figured out" what? WTF

"In order to enable HDR passthrough, Sony's new headset will ship with an updated PSVR Processor Unit. This will allow headset owners to enjoy HDR-compatible content on their TV without having to unplug the unit first."

That's cool. I don't have a 4K/HDR TV, but I've heard complaints about how you have to plug and unplug PSVR to keep your HDR running on your TV. Sounded like a significant oversight on their part, so I'm glad they fixed it.

Nice news about the headset cable being integrated as well. One of the common complaints is all the cables you have to deal with. One less is good.

Great updated. The problem had a really easy fix but it should have never happened.

Not happy about this! Mainly the fact that the new PU will not be compatible with the original HMD! F-U Sony! How about taking care of the people who are making your device successful in the first place? How hard would it be to just make an updated PU available for current users? I am probably going to get a 4K projector within the year, so I currently would need to get a bypass switch box or sell my PSVR and get the new model. LAME!

I do love the PSVR, but man it's just so wonky! I don't like how that I have to shut it down properly or the next time I turn on the PS4, nothing shows up on the TV screen. They also really need to focus on a better controller solution than Move. IMO, they should have just released two smaller versions of the Aim from the verry beginning!

And here it is, an updated Move controller without a trackball, but a USB port adds all sorts of options

Thanks Sony. Remind me NOT to buy your new stuff again. Would it be too much to throw your early adopters a bone? :txbmad::txbmad::txbmad:

The mini USB port was probably too obsolete to manufacture any more. NOTHING new has used it for probably at least 10 years! Hopefully they skipped the micro USB and went straight to USB-C. Doubt it, but at least if it uses micro, you could swap it from the controller cord.

I guess this means we aren't getting a true redesign with an analog stick or track pad any time soon...

I have no idea how this will feel in VR. Just walking through a hallway in Resident Evil puts me inside the game. How will lifesized images of planets and stars flying towards your face feel?

Oh, and this game went gold. Two more weeks.
