Official Thread Playstation VR

I really liked the TLG demo. It was only about 10 minutes long, but it was great to see Trico up close. It was also great to experience the size and scope of that world. The developer (I forget his name, I know shame on me) works so hard to create a world of vast distances, and that comes across really well in VR. Like, for instance, when you have to jump for Trico, look down, and you get a real sense of how far that drop is. It accentuates how much trust you have to have in that animal, to jump. And looking him in the eyes at the end was very nice; I felt a connection. I didn't play the normal game, but I'd play a VR version, if they made it.

Finally got around to playing some of the old VR demos, too. Quick impressions:

Ocean Descent - nice little tour; I saved the shark attack for later
Kitchen - found it more silly than frightening, actually, although I did get a jump scare or two
Eve Valkyrie - fine, but not my style
Drive Club - I know it's VR, but it didn't really feel that way to me; it felt like playing a normal racing game
Here They Lie - this one I found creepy and a little frightening. Unfortunately, the mix of fear and movement left me feeling really queasy. I had to stop after that. I wonder if I'd have similar reactions to RE7.

I've still got some others I haven't gotten to, including London Heist, The Playroom, and Rush of Blood.

Yeah I couldn't go back to the TLG after my time with it, but if they made a VR game like that, it'd be down. It really was special.

Here they lie is way different in terms of movement feel from RE7. They actually have a full level demo where you can move around called "Beginning hour" or something like that for Re7. I'm not sure if its pro enhanced or not.

I recommend playing the London Heist gun range for 10-15min before going into the game. You'll need a little bit of room to move around too.

I want to get RE7 for VR. But the PS4 version is marked up because of the VR component. It's like $20-$30 cheaper on Xbox.

Download the "beginning hour" demo on PSN and see what you think. It's literally PSVR's killer app. The non VR version is joke by comparison imo.

I used to love pilotwings, the dev says their game was inspired partly by it. Comes out this month I think

Dead, I searched for "Beginning Hour," looked at all the PSVR demos, and looked at everything associated with RE7, and I didn't see anything. Is that just something available for PC, maybe?

No, I didn't see it under all the places I searched. But I used your link, logged into my Sony account, and I cued it up for download from there. So thanks. That seems to have worked. I'm not sure why it didn't appear on the PS Store.

In the PSN store, go to the game, then scroll down for more info, options and demos.
Sony makes things really hard to find sometimes.

it is out there but it is rare avg price on ebay is well over 60 bucks some as much as almost 100. I have seen it at game stop tho in fact I THINK mine has it.

There is a gamestop about 100 miles from me who has it as well in hardcopy. Love my kids, but let's be real, I can download it for 19.99 the night before xmas and give them a print out of the box art to unwrap.

Did you try it? I recommend smooth turning and max sensitivity turning, makes it feel like a typical fps controls

I thought I checked all the add-ons and demos. I figured maybe my mistake was looking in the PSVR section rather than at the normal game. Oh well, I'll double check later..

Yeah I loved it. Its like being there at that house, only fake, like a dream.
I used smooth turning, accelerated camera turned to 10. No dizziness or anything.

It still blows my mind being able to lean in to look at things or peek around corners.
How does VR even work? A texture made for a 2d plane can be viewed in complete 3d?

Movement in VR can almost make you feel like a ghost floating around disembodied. I like it.

Great. Yeah I'm not even sure how it works, I read up on the tech but I couldn't really grasp it.

But if you liked that demo you'll love the full game. There's also DLC out too for it(one of them is free) so you've got alot of game waiting for you.

The full game is a masterpiece in VR.

I have not hooked mine up (I got the 199 GT Sport bundle) how different does it play when hooked to a Pro over a standard PS4?

Depends on the game. Some there is no difference, others there is a massive difference.

Ok, after a week with this thing, buyers remorse is starting to set in a little bit.

VR is really cool and I think it's the future, and I love that Sony is laying the groundwork. But I just don't feel like the hardware, PS4 Pro or even Xbox One X is going to be powerful enough to give me the immersion plus the visual fidelity that I want.

Skyrim VR was a huge disappointment to me. It's basically Skyrim using your head as the left stick. The VR effect isn't even that good. The graphics are basically the PS3 version or worse. Tons of pop in too.

Idk. I'm gonna give it some time. But im not as hyped for it once the newness wore off.

You might not be very sensitive to 3D effect. It's really pronounced in skyrim.

Well I mean like in RE 7, you can lean in and look at or around objects. In Skyrim VR, headtacking seems very minimal.

I'm not playing with the Move controllers since I don't have them yet. Maybe the DS 4 control setup is limiting in this regard?

Not sure. I know I can lean around corners and fire arrows with the moves.

Honestly, it took me a bit to warm up to Skyrim. The London Heist domo has sold me the most, though. Most of all, you really do just have to shed the controller for most games. Skyrim becomes like playing something else, entirely, and much less like "using your head as the left stick", as you said. You become more of a participant in that world, if this makes sense. Games were you are using the Moves as your guns, like Superhot and London Heist are also very different experiences than say, RE7. Personally, I find that driving and flying are the only types of VR games that I really like playing with the controller, so far. RE7 works, but it is lacking a bit in the interactivity department, if you ask me.

We have a ton of family over now and last night. I'm taking a break. We just played PSVR for 2 hours straight. Participants were from around 18-50 in age. Converted a few non-believers, and blew a few minds. lol

London Heist, playroom, and Superhot are definite favorites. I had some tracking issues toward the end but they cleared up.

Looking for some suggestions, or examples of setups.

I have the PS4 with VR set up on my porch, and I know it is too close to the camera, but for times sake and two impatient kids, I had to set it up knowing there'd be tracking issues.

My questions are:

1. how far away do most of you have the camera and headset? Is there an acceptable min distance that people have made work?
2. camera position? top of tv, in front of tv? Does it really matter?

I am pretty sure I am going to move the system to their room for them to play, but if I can make it work in the current room I would be happier.

Distance kind of depends on the game, standing, sitting, etc. If you can get 6 feet you should be good. Again though it varies from game to game (most have their own calibration). Some games are really finicky about where you stand, others not so much.

Room is key. The big thing to watch for is people moving around. I play Farpoint standing and I swear that I don't physically move, then I pop off the PSVR and realize I'm standing nowhere near where I started. Watch for breakables, etc.

Best thing to do is find a standing game with a good calibration routine.

I think the top of the TV is the way to go. I started with mine on the TV stand but I quickly moved it up top. I don't even remember what the issue was but it seemed to work way better on top of the TV.
