Official Thread Playstation VR

I think once you try VR, it makes sense why its expensive. It's not just a helmet with a screen strapped to your face. It can put you inside games.

de3d1, have you tried one of these M-Cables that supposedly upscales the image from PSVR?

Okay so I'm on reddit and Eurogamer did a test and the Mcable shows no difference to them. Reddit posters argue that it only works on the first generation headset because of the processing unit's config.

Perhaps they put a better image scaler in the newer processing unit? I can't see how else they would get different results.

Doesn't sound its upgrade with V2 from people who have both. It's more to do with the processing unit being different.

The cable works with V1 headsets, but shuts down on V2 headsets. It has something to do with handshake with the breakout box of the new headset. I own both headsets and an mCable and can confirm this.

Its a problem with the cable and the newer processing unit... It works like a charm on the older one. Tested on both personally and for the first time I was glad I had the older unit.

So supposedly there's a legit dungeon crawler coming exclusive to VR this week. 50 hours long and supposedly its really fun.

Wipeout VR comes out today. It's the full collection game, no compromises. From the 25 or so impressions I read it's best looking psvr ever and is implemented extremely well.

Another 50 or 100 bucks price drop(its still 499 cad) and games like this might tempt me grabbing a PSVR...

I posted about this in the Wipeout thread, but I wanted to echo those thoughts here. This is next level stuff. The clarity, immersion, and speed of this game combine for something incredible. The feeling I get when playing this is I'm jumping forward a couple of decades, it feels like something you would play at a high end arcade or park attraction, that's no joke. I feel blessed to be able to play this at home.

Tons and tons of media and users impressions like this. Restera has over 7 pages of users just gushing over it. The words "amazing" and "mindblowing" are used constantly to describe. I cannot knock them. It propels the normal game into a territory that's almost unrecognizable.

Wipeout Omega Collection is one of the best VR games I’ve ever played, and may well be the best reason to buy a PSVR at this point. It looks absolutely stunning, runs like a dream, and even feels easier to play than the regular game. The sense of scale as you jostle for places among other racecraft is intense, reminding me of Namco’s VR version of Mario Kart, and the way you can use head motion and depth perception to judge corners is incredibly immersive.

I traded my unit in towards other stuff. It was just collecting dust.
I'll be interested to see where the tech goes though. It's really great.

Couldn't agree more. This game has moved past RE7 and Skyrim for me.

WTF? I hope I bought the right thing. I just bought the Wipeout Omega Collection. Is this the way to get the VR version? This is kinda pissing me off. There is no mention anywhere of VR. The game wasn't in the VR part of the store ANYWHERE. Not even the area that it's listed as "PSVR mode Included".The only way I could find out was through a search for Wipeout. I guess I'll find out when it finishes downloading, but man, what is Sony doing?

Great! After downloading, the PSVR icon shows up!

I just want to add that Wipeout is not even listed in the entire PSVR catalog, and there is no mention of VR in the description. Sony is doing this game and themselves a disservice.

That's really stupid. I got the disc so I didn't know that.

I've had several experiences like that. Games or add-ons can be difficult to find in the Store sometimes. They don't show up through normal search, and they're not featured where you'd expect them to be featured ... instead you have to find them hidden in some corner of the Store somewhere. It can be frustrating. I always end up finding what I'm looking for, but I imagine other people get frustrated and stop looking.

Looking forward to most of these. Love how different these games are. Some of these games will look really good too.

We're getting a Mech online shooter in a few days. Previews are solid. I think it has some type of campaign mode too.

Another solid game in the lineup 8/10

I played about 1 hour and my PS4 pro crashed. Its been doing that alot lately though. The game itself was really immersive and controls well. I had that videos don't do it justice, but you can tell the reviewer liked it.

Hmmm, I wonder if this is just PSVR or VR overall?

Sony VR Market Growth Below Expectations

It's say that VR in general, needs a spark. Honestly, if Microsoft doesn't jump in with something new and cool, I have to wonder if Sony will move forward with PSVR2.

Yeah, he's talking about VR in general. PSVR has done reasonably well. It's the other part of the VR market -- the PC headsets -- that is putting a drag on things.

I'm sure Sony will include VR with the PS5. They won't take their cues from MS.

Yeah, there obviously doing fine, compared to others. I'm also not insinuating that Sony would take their lead from Microsoft, either. I'm saying that competition is healthy, and is needed to sustain the entire market. I'm certain that Sony thinks so too:

Sony wishes PlayStation VR had stronger competition
Andrew House says he's not comfortable leading the pack by a wide margin, new category should have multiple platforms succeeding

Skepticism about virtual reality persists, even with the company arguably enjoying the most success in the field. Speaking with Reuters, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House said he's concerned that PlayStation VR has been outselling primary competitors like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive so significantly.

"I'm not entirely comfortable being the market leader in VR by such a margin that seems to be happening right now," House told the wire service. "With such a brand new category you want a variety of platforms all doing well to create that rising tide and create the audience."

Through June of 2017, tracking firm Superdata put the PSVR installed base at more than 1.8 million headsets, compared to 667,000 for the Vive and 383,000 for the Rift. Since then, all three companies have cut prices on their headsets. However, an IDC researcher told Reuters Sony sold an additional 500,000 PSVR units in that time, enough to claim an "unmatched" lead over the other headsets on the market.

If Andrew House isn't practically begging Microsoft or Nintendo to enter the VR market, what else is he saying? I think it's obvious that VR needs the console space to be as big as PSVR has made it so far, but for the first time in that same console space, there is no competition. Nobody to go next? That's just not how you progress, IMO.
