Old PS5 rumors

I'm actually way less excited about new consoles specs now that I know there will be midgen refreshes that blow them away. It was cool before to get excited because we were getting new consoles for 6+ years that would be "it" now we're lucky to get 3 years.

Most of that sounds pretty reasonable.

That CPU boost will be the most interesting part, imo.

I'm not phased too much by resolution having to be full 4k (I think dynamic res does a great job, and CB rendering is a brilliant solution until you're comparing side-by-side stills zoomed in) and I do love games at 60fps, but I'd honestly be content with a solid locked 30 and some crazy awesome physics going on in some games.

When PhysX was announced there was a game, albeit a crap one, that had amazing cloth and particle physics, with people flying everywhere and s*** blowing up. Now that CPU's are getting better, and with consoles FINALLY making a leap forward, I really hope that the games take advantage of this.

Ass Creed Unity bit off more than it could chew, but it was a step in the right direction. The idea of GTA 6 being able to do something similar on a next gen pumped up system seems so exciting, but I hate the idea that we're just gonna end up with GTA5 at 4k 60FPS with new effects.

Even Farcry 5 felt a bit stripped back in the way that animals and outposts interact. The AI felt idiotic, patrols just seemed to be charging towards you...

And I guess I kind of worry about a previous gen dragging future games back with them too.

Imagine having the Alien from that Alien game thrown into PUBG without the game running like bollocks.

Blergh, I'm super tired and I don't even know what I'm trying to say at this point... I guess we're going to end up with the exact same games at 4K.

Don't get the mid gen refreshes. A new generation is right around the corner at that point which will blow away the mid gen refreshes.

PS6 Will be 25 tflops!

Looks like the next consoles might have AMD based Ray Tracing like i predicted...

Technology Reveal: Real-Time Ray Traced Reflections achieved with CRYENGINE. All scenes are rendered in real-time in-editor on an AMD Vega 56 GPU. Reflections are achieved with the new experimental ray tracing feature in CRYENGINE 5 - no SSR. Neon Noir was developed on a bespoke version of CRYENGINE 5.5., and the experimental ray tracing feature based on CRYENGINE’s Total Illumination used to create the demo is both API and hardware agnostic, enabling ray tracing to run on most mainstream, contemporary AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. However, the future integration of this new CRYENGINE technology will be optimized to benefit from performance enhancements delivered by the latest generation of graphics cards and supported APIs like Vulkan and DX12.

I mean....does any AAA studios even use Cry Engine anymore? Most of the games that have come out relatively recently on Cry Engine have all looked like ass if they haven't come from Crytek themselves.

I saw this and was pretty amazed that they are getting it to the point where they can run it on non-RTX, existing cards. Pretty wild, and much sooner than I expected. This bodes well for squeeking RT in there for the next consoles. It will only get more refined from here. Exciting times ahead, indeed!

I have pretty big paws and never have my thumbs touch each other. That happened on all of the other dualshock controllers, though.

Looks like a happy bat!

Seriously though... I thought we learned that screens on controllers are a waste of money and space....

I do not want to look at my controller while playing... Unless it allows me to tweak control settings. Be nice to have an unlimited number of custom settings accessible without exiting the game or going to another app.

The previous one is interesting because this is from a few months ago:

MS, Nintendo and many 3rd parties tried to push 2nd screen stuff and it just doesn't work, hell it never even made sense. I don't get why they would put a screen on a controller, if it's the size of the touch pad on the DS4 it'd be nearly useless anyway.
