I'll get The Show 18 at some point. I just have way too many games right now but opening day of baseball is tempting me.

I only messed around in 17 but really liked it. I think the last good baseball game I played was EA NCAA (after they lost the MLB license for their old series).

Too many games, not enough time. I know I wouldn't spend enough time to justify it right now.

I had MLB on my PS3, but I don't recall which one. Best Baseball game I have played in ages. I think as a kid I played baseball on like Atari and that was fun too.

The only baseball game I ever played was RBI in the arcades, back in the 80s or 90s.

I was surprised to see the series is still rolling along. Here's RBI 18:

From a Gamespot article comparing baseball games ("which baseball game is right for you"), The Show sounds more realistic, and RBI more simplified. I'd probably go for RBI, if I were to choose (but I doubt I'll be playing a baseball game any time soon).

Nothing was better than intentionally hitting batters in Bases Loaded and watching them charge the mound.

The last MLB the show game I bought I struckout 90% of the time because I have no patience and swing at everything. Striking out is not fun. Lol

Beautiful series though.

I am not going to do a thread about it (yet) but I feel Japan Studio is going to have a big presence this year at conferences with their new rumoured space RPG and their Fromsoft collaboration. It is time to see what Allan Becker has changed at Japan Studio as when he joined Knack, Gravity Rush and TLG were all in development and from recent tweets the likes of Shawn and first party people were in Japan very recently and were hyped.

Has anyone else been having issues with the quick menu after updating to 5.50? I keep mine as minimal as possible with only the power, music, and notifications there. Whenever I start mine up lately, the friends menu and online status thing keeps getting added. I DONT HAVE ANY FRIENDS OR PSN, so I don't want those on there.

Don't feel bad. I haven't even bought any The Show games this gen and it's a series i really enjoyed last gen. Might have to pick up The Show 18 though since my Red Sox are rolling. 6 in a row!

It's time for a break from that series. UC5 was kinda blah from what I read. What would be cool is a reboot using Nathan's daughter.

Well it definitely wasn't and also not UC5 but I don't disagree about it needing a break. Hopefully its a PS5 game though.

Close enough though. I was supposed to be DLC but they released as a full game instead.

I kind of hope they give Uncharted a rest, too. I enjoyed UC4 but thought it was weaker than the first 3 and suffered from the Neil Druckman family drama thing a bit. I'd rather they try something new. But I guess it's not up to me. We probably won't be hearing anything about it for a long time, in any event. TLoU #2 is probably 2 years away, and I imagine they will want to keep the public's eyes focused on that.

I wouldn't think TLOU 2 would play much of a factor since whatever this game wouldn't really be developed by ND. Probably hear about it whenever they reveal the PS5 assuming Sony learned their lesson from this gen and don't overload the PS4 like they did the PS3 in 2013.

The "unannounced project" listed there wouldn't be developed by Naughty Dog?

To be fair it is a bit of a leap to assume the two things I posted are directly related. It could be ND hiring for their next game and maybe they are making two games at once like they did with TLOU and UC3

But they are putting together a new team on a collaborated project. If that is Uncharted I wouldn't think ND is doing that much heavy lifting on it

My guess is that they are building this studio to let Naughty Dog focus on new I.P after the Last of Us 2. ND have tons ideas brewing for new I.P but have stuck to franchises they know whereas the other Sony studios have mostly even moved onto new I.P, even Santa Monica tried a new I.P. Either it is a new studio to take helm of something like Uncharted or it is to assist with Naughty Dog increasing their output. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this.

Yeah, you'd think that after finally bringing a close to Uncharted, they'd want to move on to something new. I'm hoping it's a new ND IP. I'm sure Uncharted will resurface in some form eventually, but they're too creative a studio to do the same thing over and over.

It has only been 5 years since ND released a new IP. They are probably the best example of Sony letting a studio doing something different.

Naughty Dog always do a new I.P every gen though. Practically every Sony studio apart San Diego and Polyphony have had a good at a new I.P or have new I.P's and one of those works on annual MLB game and another is premier race developer. It's just weird but I know they need Uncharted 4 and it would be very hard to say no to sequel for the Last Of Us.

The "other" PS4 exclusive launching this week is doing reasonably well. Metacritic is at 83.

From Gamespot's review:

"Yakuza 6 reins in its scope, but doubles down on what has made the series great. It's a unique and fascinating representation of the modern Japanese experience, worth playing even if you're a newcomer. The narrative is dramatic and sincere, and the game's endearing characters--coming from all walks of life--are interesting studies. The world is dense and rewarding to exist in, the dynamic combat system stays exciting even after you've kicked the crap out of five thousand enemies, and perhaps most importantly, Yakuza 6: The Song Of Life serves as a fulfilling conclusion to the turbulent, decade-long saga of its beloved icon, Kazuma Kiryu."

Sony's studios continue their winning streak
The success of the PS4's excellent first-party experiences belie the commercial challenges single-player titles still face

(excerpts)

"Sony's big games are tied together by a single clear thread: they are extremely polished, expensively developed titles that stick to a concept of the single-player experience with something that borders on ideological purity. They're straight down the line traditional console titles. They might almost be crafted as a direct answer to consumers who complain about no longer getting the complete experience when you buy a game, as they pointedly feature no new business models, no microtransactions, no season passes.

"The reason for this expanding gulf is, simply put, that Sony's economic incentives are different. Sony's blockbuster single-player games are both commercial products in themselves, and incredibly powerful marketing tools for PlayStation. Their existence is justified not just by their sales, but by the halo effect they create for the platform as a whole. Horizon, God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Last Guardian; these aren't just great games, they're intrinsic parts of what PlayStation is to consumers and to Sony itself.

"Sony is presently operating on a level that's simply out of reach to most third parties. It's great news for Sony and its studios; but for those wishing that the commercial logic of single-player games will find a healthy balance, Sony's blockbusters are a false hope."
