PS4 Pro Discussion

Most games should be much better on the Pro. Doesn't matter if it's not native 4k. When you have 4.2tf that's still a powerful machine and will bring graphics and performance improvements.

and in other news, water is wet...

I was really expecting more games supported by Pro to have been announced by now, or details on what the enhancement options will be for games. Kinda disappointing.

How so? All of the big games coming out around it's launch will be supporting it as well as added features to some old games and it's more than likely every game after launch will have enhancements for it. I agree on wanting to know more details as far as what upgrades each title will be getting but we are still a month and a half away. We can assume that they'll all likely have the resolution upgraded and HDR support but if there are other additions I'd like to know what they are ASAP just because I hate waiting lol. We know Battlefield 1, infinite warfare, MW Remastered, Skyrim, Watch Dogs 2, Titanfall 2, The Last Guardian, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy and more will have support. That pretty much covers all of the big holiday games coming this year and that doesn't count older games that have added support like NBA 2k17, UC4, TLOUR, Ratchet and Clank, COD Black Ops3, Fifa 17, PES2017 and more.

At least according to the initial leaks, which seems to have been spot on accurate, games coming out from I think October onward are mandated to support both "base" mode and "Neo" mode, although of course what that will mean on a title-by-title basis will depend on the developer. But it should be assumed that anyone in the business for developing for the PS4 with a release date from October forward has known about this and will support it at least in some way.

I thought that too but some games like Mafia 3 and WWE 2k17 haven't been announced as supporting it as far as I'm aware, hopefully that's just an oversight. You are right though, with everything else in the leaks being accurate it would be strange if this part wasn't, then again maybe some studios just didn't have the resources to get the enhancements done on time.

AFAIK Sony hasn't mandated that 3rd party games be forced to support the Pro.

Pro is very new. Just like share play, future games will likely take more advantage of it's horsepower. It will likely be the same for Scorpio, too. So if you are expecting every previous game that ever released on the system to support it, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

New games will support it,some old and some old unannounced will be added eventually and you can quote that.

I've decide against pro for now. Gonna get PSVR and focus on that. I'll wait for the price to drop or get scorpio. Pro isn't a bad machine, but I don't feel its valid to upgrade to a 4k TV.

Still have my doubts that VR will look good on PS4 without the Pro.

I've played it first hand. Looks great and feels incredible. Pro will make it better I'm sure, but the games are required to be 60fps per sony.

Has anyone here actually played it like myself?

I'm going "wait and see" on both. The day of launch the Pro just won't offer much more than the standard PS4. Might as well wait until we see a AAA title that is substantially better on the Pro.

I have not, but would like to know more.
How noticeable were the edges of the helmet (how was the field of view)?
Was there blur when you moved your head around quickly?
Did you try the virtual theater where you can play non VR games on a virtual screen?

1)I didn't notice the helmet edge at all

2) Zero blur. However I don't remember testing that by snapping my head super fast, I just played normally it was fine. I'm pretty sensitive to framerate dips and effects like that so I would have probably picked up on that.

3) Did not try virtual theater

I see ads all the time.

I hadn't seen any so I googled "Playstation VR TV commercial" and the only thing that came up were a couple of ads run in Japan. Can you link us to a USA PSVR TV ad to see?

I'd have thought there would be a bit more marketing behind it at this point, it pretty close to launch...

Pretty pointless to advertise PSVR when it's sold out. I'd be pissed if Sony market it right now and can't freaking purchase it at all.

You almost had to be looking for the fov from my experience. It was almost equivalent to wearing glasses and looking for the edges/frame.

No blur effects were present. Everything felt solid.

No theater feature was on at the time, but i have a pretty good idea what that experience will be like when it does come -- albeit better.
