PS4 Pro Discussion

I am jumping aboard the PS4 Pro train, I got the Xbox One X and my OCD kicked in telling my I needed the PS4 Pro to complete the collection.
It's gonna feel REAL good.

I am jumping aboard the PS4 Pro train, I got the Xbox One X and my OCD kicked in telling my I needed the PS4 Pro to complete the collection.

Are you sure it was the OCD and not just the realization that consoles are better than PC?

Welcome to the club kid.

I backed up my PS4 which was almost 900GB of worth of stuff and it took 6+ hours, I let it sit over night the other night. Went to Gamestop and traded in my PS4 for 120 credit and put it towards the PS4 Pro which happened to come with Star Wars Battlefront 2 for Free. Took me 5 mins to install my 2TB drive from my previous PS4 and then took another 5+ hours to restore my backup.

Moral of the story is that if you do a large backup and restore on a PS4 console, it is a 11+ hour, all day affair. This is the second time I've done the backup and restore process and I cringe at the thought of it lol.

FINALLY got my 4K set with HDR home cannot wait to get my Pro hooked up to it (just gotta get my new tv stand and get it set up so I can put it in place of my old 39" Sammy)

A huge percentage of of sets that have HDR at this point have horrible implementation of it that shouldn't be used, or will be outdated in a year or two. If you're going to wait, wait for a set that hasn't been released yet.

This. If you're going to get an HDR set, make sure it is a quality one or you won't really notice a difference. Some sets don't meet the peak brightness requirements, some aren't 10 bit panels, etc. etc. Not all HDR is created equal.

Netflix in 4K and HDR is not impressing me on the 900E so far...something is not right,it has no pop besides the occasional fires or lights...I will try it on the X tonight to see if it looks better...I swear it looked better on my 5 year old 1080P set...Horizon looks awesome,FFXV also looks great in HDR but Netflix just looks bland, even the regular HD stuff...

If you want to see something pop watch the first season of Marco Polo, it doesn't have HDR but the 4K stands out a lot more than season 2 does with HDR

I ordered a PS4 Pro while drunk last night. Amazon just launched here in Oz, and they had it going for cheap, $399 (Like, $300US), so I jumped in.

I'm hoping once I get it, EB will let me trade it for a white one if I don't open it.

I've had my Pro for a few days, things I've noticed.

1. Fan can and will get loud, not OG PS4 fan loud, it's more of a "lots of air" being moved around rather than a higher pitched jet engine like sound. It is audible and is a little annoying though.

2. Some times the dash can be sluggish, especially when coming out of a game.

3. I've had it crash to a black screen once, and had to pull the power plug, it was totally unresponsive. Never seen that happen before on any PS4 console.

1. I have that a lot.

2. My dash is never sluggish. The Store can be when it has to load in artwork at times.

3. I never had that happen, but when I got the 5.00 update to the dashboard, I didn't think my PS Pro would start. It stayed black screen for many minutes. I kept pressing the power button and holding it in until I could get the PS to react. When it did, it did some check disk thing, and then started up and never had an issue after that.

The odd thing about number 3 is that I was in a party with my buddy and we could still chat, despite the total unresponsiveness to any controller and power/eject buttons, I also still had audio. It sure was odd.

noise is atrocious anytime i play a enhanced game, its borderline pathetic craftmanship. it litrally can be heard in other rooms when it goes into a temperary full overdrive

I completely agree with this, especially since the Xbox One X is more powerful and is totally silent at all times.

strange in the almost year of Pro ownership it has been A: very quiet, B: never sluggish, and C: never crashed like that (I have had those things well the last 2 happen on my last 2 fat PS4s). I do not have mine hooked to the new 4K HDR set so maybe things may change when that happens, who knows.

I don't think it's a resolution issue. I just YouTube'd it thinking people were overreacting, but I think it's just a janky issue hitting up some consoles.

Being able to hear the game is overrated anyway. People need to learn to use their other senses to hear games.. like taste.

The ejectable disc trays were perfect for acting as a coaster for your drink, and even better, if you snapped the base off your wine glass, you just put the stem through the gap in the tray! Instant wineglass holder!

I play at a desk, by the by. :p

No problems here. I think they know when they're owned by Xbox guys and they let out a cry for help.

Was just playing SWBF2 with a buddy, and it consistently ramped up fan speeds when loading a new map, when it's done the fan ramps back down.

I don't think mine is quite that loud in the video, I'll see if I can take a video of mine.

Lol. I was thinking the same thing last night. Wait, the guys claiming their PS4 Pro is loud are either Xbox or PC guys in here.. I have heard mine get loud. Maybe more than my X1X but they both get loud at times. Silent my ass, lol.

The funny thing is, and i'm not even kidding.. my PC sounds like a worn out go-kart. It's nonstop loud since day one. Without even playing a game. I know it's not the best PC and i could probably do something to make it less noisy but wtf. Point and case, the problem with PC. Everything's a f***ing chore.

No, there are plenty of PS guys that have the issue not just multiplatform gamers. Check out the official PS forums.

My new MacBook Pro with Touchbar is silent like my X1X. However my Alienware fan does get loud.

Let's keep "vs" talk and talk about Xbox out of this thread. There are other places for that.

I've also recently noticed that the disk drive is very noisy, like vibration noise. Much louder than launch and slims PS4.

Going back to the black screen crash, this JUST happend to my friend who i was in a party with, black screen, we could hear each other in the party but the system is totally unresponsive to controller or the consoles buttons, he has a PS4 slim. We are thinking that something in system update 5.03 is causing this because this happpend to neither of us prior to it.

I honestly haven't put a disk in my PS Pro yet. I can't see a reason to ever do so since I am all digital.

I only buy Digital if there is a better deal than the physical copy. I still like my physical media.

I've got my new (Black) PS4 Pro, and I don't want it sitting in my entertainment with my white AV gear, so I've got it plugged into my 1440p computer monitor.

The only option in the menu's are for 1080 in the settings. I'm guessing choosing 1440 isn't an option?

It's fine either way, it's just it looks a bit strange up scaling at the moment. I might try and exchange it for a white one at EB or something so I can use it in my lounge.

Side note, my first time playing Uncharted (I'm starting at 1) and its a really pretty game, even for this gen! I can't wait to get to Uncharted 4. I haven't owned a Sony console since the PS2, so I've got a decade of amazing games to catch up on! I feel like when you come into a TV show a few seasons in, and you can binge until you get bedsores and realise you've been peeing into a Coke bottle for days.

Also, in regards to the noise, it's pretty quiet. Nothing to complain about so far. My external HDD makes more noise at times than the console.

I've had #2 & #3 happen on both my PS4 and PS4 Pro regularly.

Coming out of the online browser to the dash almost always makes things sluggish as hell until it crashes and reboots. I sometimes get a message of the system not having enough virtual memory.

i just bought the horizon dlc... the console was louder than the dialog! i cant believe anyone has a quiet one, if so give me proof so i can get a replacement from sony

this is pathetic hardware design.
