Don't have enough experience with the Avalanche engine, but as a huge fan of the id Tech engine it's kind of disappointing it won't be based on that.
It's the engine from Mad Max and Just Cause. This new footage looks like a very nice evolution of Mad Max's already stellar lighting model and shaders. It also has some of the very best atmospherics and particle systems I've seen, and a robust physics integration. More than any other engine out there, imo.

Its gotta be the one of the very best open world engines available, and I'm not sure if the I'd tech engine would handle what they are doing as it's much better suited to tighter play areas (remember the texture streaming issues in the first Rage?).

I do have Mad Max but haven't gotten to it. Just Cause I haven't played since the first so I'm sure they've updated it since then. I just love the feel of shooters on id Tech. I'm playing Wolfenstein 2 right now and it's so much damn fun. Same with Doom and the original Rage. Obviously can't tell the feel of it based off E3, but it sure looks fun as hell.

Interview with Mr. Rage Tim Willits.

TW: "Yes, yes. It’s 100 hours of gameplay, because this is an open world, emergent game. Yes, we’re focusing on single-player."

This news is as about as great to me as the news there will be a Rage 2. I originally hoped for 45 hours of Rage 2 with all DLC so with 30 for Rage 1+DLC and 45 for Rage 2+DLC I would have 75 hours of total Rage. If Rage 2 hits 100 hours, especially with the Cult of the Death Gods DLC mission and the confirmed campaign expansion Rise of the Ghosts, then I should get 100 easy. This is epic news.

I loved the look of Rage 2. Took some elements from Doom and Mad Max, two of my favorite games.

Anybody else more hyped for this than for Doom?

WAY more excited for it lol. Doom was fun but I'm fine not playing another game just like that again, the world just isn't interesting enough to make me want to go back to it. RAGE 2 looks like a lot of fun and the fact that it has on foot and vehicle combat is a huge plus.

Yeah it looked much more polished this time. Looks super chaotic too.

Is this by the team that made Mad Max?
