I think this game has officially lost me. Not that there is anything wrong with it. On the contrary it looks awesome. But I have zero time to multiplayer games anymore as I have got older. I used to live and breath multiplayer. And now, other than Destiny...which I can play without actually having to do matchmaking, I haven't bothered with multiplayer in nearly 2 years. With not enough time to play means not enough time to be good at the game online to do well or to support a team. I would be level 2 for like 6 months while everyone else is level 100 or whatever.

I am keeping on eye on this game, just because. Though I just can't see it fitting into my current gaming lifestyle.

Honest q (not trying to be dick-ish)...have you tried the beta?

I finally played it this weekend, and you can really just pick up and play for a little while. I got matched up with people I didn’t know and it was a lot of fun, even if I only had 20 minutes to play.

You might end up not liking it, but it’s worth a try.

Yeah, I am on the beta and I have played it for like 15 minutes. It's a cool game and concept, just not sure if I will be able to enjoy it. There is no true release date so I will just keep watching it as it gets closer to release date. If it ALSO had a true campaign, it would be day one. Right now it's day none.

I hear ya. I liked what I played but it needs more work. There has to be a way to make it more SP-friendly.
But the groundwork is there for something potentially great. Potentially.

This is going to sound really random. But I would love for Rare to make a Scoobie Doo game with this engine and make the game play like Luigi's Mansion.

I mean it looks like a living cartoon. And the art style is almost a perfect match.

Well, they did make Grabbed by the Goulies, right?

Yes though, Rare could definitely breathe some new life into a tired old property, like Scooby Doo! I'd pay good money for a game like RE7, but in a cheesy, cartoony, 70s funhouse.

These latest videos seems to show an extra level of polish Rare is adding. Between the water, sun and skies it’s incredibly beautiful.

Last Call for the Sea of Thieves Technical Alpha – Invitations for All!

SeaOfThieves_SwordFighting_940x528-1-hero.jpg

Hello, pirates! 2017 has been a jam-packed year for Rare and Sea of Thieves, and as we angle our sails towards that long-awaited launch in early 2018, we’re also coming up on a full year of the Sea of Thieves Technical Alpha. It’s served the game incredibly well and given thousands upon thousands of budding buccaneers a chance to hit the seas on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC – and we’ll soon be waving goodbye to the Technical Alpha in its current form, so this is your final chance to get involved!

Why sign up now if you haven’t already? Everyone who joins the Insider Programme by the cut-off date of Dec. 1 will be invited to the next play session – our biggest and best yet – with the latest brace of brand new features to test. Yes, as promised, all eligible Insiders are now getting their chance to jump in and play Sea of Thieves before its release next year.

It was back in December 2016 that we announced the very first Technical Alpha sessions, following the kick-off of our Insider Programme in November. In the space of a year we’ve scaled up from that first wave of 1,000 players to almost 200,000. We’ve debuted new features from skeletal sentinels to solo ships, welcomed your feedback and used it to balance and finetune all manner of things, honoring our promise to shape Sea of Thieves alongside its community. Now we’re preparing to welcome all those Insiders still waiting to take to the waves, plus all new Insiders who sign up between now and Dec. 1.

So if you haven’t yet pounced on the possibility of playing Sea of Thieves early, waste no more time and join the Insider crew at www.seaofthieves.com/insider. Our Insiders receive regular updates from the development team through official forum posts and newsletters, and of course get the chance to play the game and share their thoughts with us as it continues to evolve.

Joining the Insider Programme is free – you just need to have an Xbox Live account (or set up a new one) and be 18 years or older to sign the NDA. As Sea of Thieves is an online multiplayer game, Xbox Live Gold membership is also required when sailing the seas on Xbox One. Please remember that these Technical Alpha play sessions are purely for the benefit of our Insiders and are currently under NDA, so they can’t be streamed or captured!

For more information about the Insider Programme including some details on eligibility, see our FAQ. And stay tuned to official Sea of Thieves and Xbox social channels for an announcement of the big play session date coming up in December.

This seems strange because of modern day matchmaking.

If you play a couple hours of Overwatch per week, you'll most likely be placed in Bronze and get the same feeling of proficiency as the player who plays 50 hours of Overwarch per week in Masters. Games are really good nowadays at putting players of similar skill levels together.

Was going to preorder but I am holding out thinking there could be something really cool with a special edition. If this game does well it could bring out some really cool merch. The odd thing about the pirate genre is I don't see much in the way of dealing with them in a more realistic/historically perspective. All we seem to get is the comic/cartoony take on them. Correct me if I'm overlooking something big in movies/gaming. I suppose AssCreed Black Flag was somewhat gritty but all I can think of is Pirates of the Carribean, Monkey Island, and Sea of Thieves type stuff. Captain Phillips dealt with modern day pirating, but there is a rich folklore of stories from the 17th, 18th, and 19th century that is ripe for the picking. PotC does allude to some of that history but has more fiction than reality.

I digress...this game has a mountain of great potential but even just 4 months out I am left wondering how it all comes together from a sustainable gameplay standpoint.

To me I wonder, was the alpha just like 10% of the game? Is there 90% that they kept under wraps?

I found it to be quite boring. Hopefully there is more to the full game.

A persistent cooperative pirate game that can leverage any Rare IP should become a pillar franchise. I think it has to be Microsoft’s next big hit because it’s been a decade since Microsoft has found one.

Agreed and I’m hoping for that. There is so much potential in the Alpha...I just hope they can work it out by March.

I like the trading company update. I spent a good portion of the morning trying it out. I really liked hunting the skeleton bounties, and I felt it more when some thieving bastard snuck onto my ship and stole four of my six skulls while I was on an island. I got there just in time to see him sailing away at full speed.

This is the type of thing that gives me more hope for the future of SoT. In the early stages of development there wasn’t much to do, but every time I play the Alpha now they are adding more and more stuff. I can see their vision for the game better now, and there really is monster potential there.

It could end being a GTA-like pirate world, but more light and Rare-y of course.

That being said, I don’t know if they can pull it off by March, but I get more confident with each build I play.
