  • Bilge Rats - To stay in the know as to what is changing in the Sea of Thieves, visit the Bilge Rat character in the taverns to discover what time-limited events are active. Whether it’s The Hungering Deep or future events, this is the place to go!
  • New Threat - Something old, vast and hungry is surfacing. Follow the trail of riddles and rumours. We hope you live to tell the tale.
  • Speaking Trumpet - Parley! Let other ships know if you are friend or foe with the new Speaking Trumpet, making yourself heard from longer distances. The first Speaking Trumpet is obtainable through The Hungering Deepcampaign, but purchasable variants will be arriving in the shops in the near future.
  • Ship's Flags - Want to sink and plunder, or seek allies to adventure with? Let your intentions be known with new flags which can be raised high above your ship! Climb up to the crow's nest and decide which to raise.
  • Drum - BOOM! Pirate percussionists (inspired by Merrick himself) can now be heard all across the seas. The first drum is obtainable through The Hungering Deep campaign, but purchasable variants will be arriving in the shops in the near future.
  • Tattoos - Many pirates wanted them and now they are here! Check out the vanity chest for 16 sailor tattoo sets and visit the clothing shop on outposts for stocks of four purchasable tattoo sets.
  • Scars - What enemies have fallen to your pirate might? Scars earned through campaigns and events such as The Hungering Deep will allow you to tell a story of your pirate's history and adventures. These are not purchasable, they must be earned.

  • Shark Hunter Figurehead, Sails, Hull & Flag - With the strange increase in shark activity in the seas, shark hunting is on the rise! Shipwrights have caught on early to this trend and now stock a new figurehead, sail, hull and flag.
  • Sailor Sail Tints - Want a splash of colour on your ship but don't have the coin? Those Shipwrights are impossible to bargain with. Sailor colour variants for you more cost-conscious pirates are now being stocked. These include Black, Grass Green, Royal Blue, Red and Yellow.
  • Majestic Sovereign Clothing - If it's time to freshen up your look, check out the new Majestic Sovereign set in the clothing shop, it may tickle your fancy! Remember stock is different from outpost to outpost, so you may want to check the Ancient Isles.
  • Item Colour Variants - Purchased the Grand Admiral, Castaway Bilge Rat, Ruffian Sea Dog or Imperial Sovereign clothing sets but want matching items? Now they are here! Shipments have arrived at the equipment shops on outposts.
  • Pirate Legend Dress - We heard feedback from our Pirate Legends that in the approach to summer, a breezy alternative to the existing Legendary attire would be appreciated. Future Pirate Legends will automatically be awarded this dress, and existing Pirate Legends can grab it in the Hideout for free.
  • Ghost Dress - Arriving in the same shipment as the Pirate Legend Dress, pirates can now complete the Ghost set with the dress, stocked in the Pirate Legends Hideout clothing shop.
  • Pirate Legend Flag - Are you even a legend if you don't have a flag to say so? Some say not. Rush to the Shipwright in the Pirate Legends Hideout to get yours!
Updates
  • Pirate Preview Camera - The daily dilemma for every pirate, what to wear?! Make that an informed decision with the new animations within the clothing and vanity chests. These new animations will bring focus to the area you are currently equipping. Imagine a pirate lifting their leg when equipping a peg leg... you get it!
  • Loading Screen - In case too much grog has made some pirates forget... the loading screen imagery has been updated to highlight The Hungering Deep campaign.
Performance Improvements
  • CPU performance has been improved when loading objects.
Further improvements and optimisations for all platforms are ongoing.
Fixed Issues
  • Permanent black loading screens will no longer be encountered when returning from the Ferry or using the mermaid.
  • Leaving and returning to the ship will no longer remove the tool-tip to unload cannons which are loaded.
  • Upon starting a Merchant Contract or Bounty Voyage, the UI message will correctly state "Quest Received" rather than "Maps Discovered".
  • Coral and plants will no longer appear to pop in when approaching the reef near Fools Lagoon.
  • Light will no longer appear to flicker underneath the large eagle rock on Plunder Valley.
  • Upon spawning at an outpost, an issue has been resolved which would occasionally cause the crew's Galleon to be missing.
  • Resolved a known cause of some player disconnects.
  • Multiple server and client crash fixes.
  • Customer Support have resolved all known players who were missing downloadable content in-game. If you are still experiencing this, please refer to this Support Article, and if you still cannot find your items in-game, please raise a support ticket.
Known Issues
  • Washed-up items, including messages in bottles, are still disabled.
We are working on getting these switched back on as soon as possible.
  • Dropping Skeleton Fort keys in water can prevent them from being picked up again.
  • Athena's Fortune Bounty Quest skeletons are sometimes unable to be found.
We are working to resolve issues on the reported islands: Plunder Valley and Thieves' Haven. If you encounter this issue, please submit a bug report to our Player Support Team with as much detail as possible on your location.

Haven’t played SOT since the first week. Waiting for the game to load up on content. How’s this first wave felt? Significant impact or just slightly moved the needle?

It's a cool experience but nothing mind blowing. If you don't do the meg quest in the first two weeks though you don't be able to get the shark figurehead with glowing eyes you get for finishing it.

Finished the hungering deep on Friday. The whole thing isn't all that long, but wish this would have been more the setup for how you do quests. You had to go around and collect these journals and then figure out where to go from the clues in there. It took you to unmarked islands and even into an under water cave. The coop aspect of needing 5 people was pretty cool, although I wouldn't want it in all quest obviously. You just got a better feel for the world, got to do a bit of exploring that took you to different places, got a boss fight, and got to learn a bit of lore along the way.

If they had a main quest line that was full of quests like this, I would have helped the game out a lot. Granted the end game still needs to be changed and tweaked, but it would have helped.

When I first heard about Sea of Thieves, this was a little more along the lines of what I was expecting.

Amazon has the physical disc for $38.30 US.

Worth it? The game looks interesting (and I'm not overflowing with hype which helps) but I tend to prefer solo and that seems like a bad way to play.

It's not the best game to play solo but it can be done. Also thinking about picking it up for that price. Knew i wouldn't have to wait long to get a deal on it and i prefer owning the bigger exclusive and multiplat releases physical.

I'd almost rather have digital and play anywhere though.

Is there a matchmaking or some easy way to play with randoms online?

Color me one of those weirdos who never plays SOT, doesn't plan to in the near future but who's very interested in what they show at E3. There's so many damned things they can do with this sandbox. Literally could be a mini-Fortnight situation where you have a very niche and average game that blows up with the right game mode. Hoping Microsoft stays persistent with this one. Core is there and because the cupboard is so bare, there's almost no limits in what they can change or add.

Yes, you can chose to start alone or with a crew. When you load in you are in a shared world with other players. So if you start alone and meet someone you can also crew up with them.

Just get the Game Pass. It's not much more expensive for the year, and you get a bunch of other ones too, like Crackdown 3 when it comes!es out.

I think I'm the only Xbox fan who doesn't do game pass. I guess I just should. I know I'll buy it but not have time for any of the games anyway.

I am not bothering with it because I just like owning the games.

You're not the only one, me too. I own all the games that I would ever want game pass for already anyway.

Patch Notes
Ahoy pirates!
Battered and broken by the cannon fire of an entire sea of adversaries, the Hungering One has returned to the depths and can no longer be summoned. Does this mean the waters are safe to sail again? Not for long. She may be the mightiest of her kind, but she is not the only one of her kind. From the next patch, the surface will be breached by others following in her wake. A new age of predators has dawned and things will never be the same again...
For now a different kind of thrilling adventure has arrived! The first of our regular events introduces Skeleton Thrones. Patch 1.1.2 also brings further improvements for our colourblind pirates and multiple fixes for known issues.
Bilge Rat Adventures - Skeleton Thrones
Do you consider yourself a well travelled Pirate who knows the map of the seas like the back of their hook? Combine this with eagle-eye precision with your cannon skill and you may well earn your crew some fine booty this week!
b71f9f9b-3444-45a8-9f40-d78e481ae0a8.jpg

  • Skeleton Thrones Event – The Skeleton Thrones are the latest addition to the world of Sea of Thieves. These thrones require a good sense of discovery to find, and for some an even steadier aim to reach. There are 5 small Thrones and 5 large Thrones, the small requiring just one pirate to sit on, but the larger requiring pirates to be sat on it from more than one crew. Look high, look low, and look within…
  • Bilge Rat Progression Screen - Bilge Rats now have their own dedicated progression screen! This information can be found on the front page of the progression screen via the [Menu] (controller) or [Tab] (keyboard) buttons. Chart your progress through the Skeleton Thrones event on this screen, not to mention getting some important clues as to the location of these elusive thrones.
  • Bilge Rat Doubloons – The Bilge Rats trade in their own currency, they don’t have time for gold or any of that official stuff. Each Commendation in the progress screen details the amount of Bilge Rat Doubloons it unlocks with a total of 100 Doubloons available through the Skeleton Thrones event.
  • Bilge Rat Cosmetics – Spend your Bilge Rat Doubloons on exclusive time-limited items too! You have until the 26th of June to purchase the Bone Crusher Hat, Jacket and Dress – priced at 20 Doubloons per item.
  • Bilge Rat Trading – If you’re feeling a thirst for a little extra gold in ye’ pocket or fancy some Reputation in any of the three Trading Companies, the Bilge Rats can also pull a few strings and allow you to trade your Doubloons towards a bit of progress. These latter progression items will be a permanent part of the Bilge Rat shop and aren’t time limited, so make your choice wisely!
  • Bilge Rat Titles – Completing five of the smaller Skeleton Thrones will unlock a unique Pirate Title, and finding all ten will unlock a unique Pirate Title. These titles will unlock straight into your Vanity Chest for maximum bragging rights.
Updates
  • Colour Blind Accessibility - Filters can now be applied from within settings to assist with red-green and blue-yellow colour blind pirates.
  • Merrick's Shanty - Merrick's shanty has been added to the list of playable shanties.
  • Sailor Drum - The Sailor Drum has been given to all players. Find it in the second page of your item radial.
  • Sailor Speaking Trumpet - The Sailor Speaking Trumpet has been given to all players. Find it in the second page of your item radial.
Customisation Variety
  • Drum selection - Admiral, Bilge Rat, Sea Dog and Sovereign drums have been added to the Equipment Shops on their respective Outposts!
  • Speaking trumpet selection - Admiral, Bilge Rat, Sea Dog and Sovereign speaking trumpets have been added to the Equipment Shops on their respective Outposts!
  • Rainbow flag - A new flag has been added to all pirates' flag inventory! Article 1 of the Pirate Code states that, "Everyone is welcome on the Sea of Thieves regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, nationality or creed."
Performance Improvements
  • Further improvements to load times and streaming of islands.
  • Multiple server and client crash fixes.
Further improvements and optimisations for all platforms are ongoing.
Fixed Issues
  • Players will no longer continue to endlessly hear the capstan audio upon visiting the Ferry.
  • The armoury will now correctly have an 'All' tab.
  • Pirates will no longer appear cut-off when previewing items in the vanity or equipment chest.
  • Flame VFX on campfires and lanterns will now appear correctly.
  • The option to lock FPS to 90 now correctly appears in settings.
  • Equipping the Majestic Sovereign Dress no longer applies a strange mark to the back of your Pirates neck.
Known Issues
  • Some players travel in an unintended direction, when fired from a cannon.
