I might be picking up a 50" Panasonic tc-p50s60 plasma tomorrow. I've seen reviews where people say it's good for gaming. The response time is 34ms. I have no idea how that compares to my current tv (my PC monitor has a response time of 2ms.). It's an old Samsung LCD 1080p 40" and it's about 7 years old. Would 34ms be good for gaming?

You'll be golden. Sub-field drive on plasmas is unmatched. If you can though, spring for the ST model rather than the S. Last time you're gonna be able to buy a panny plasma, might as well go all out. :(

I have a plasma but no idea what the response time is. Pretty sure that is more of a factor for LCDs.

Thanks everyone. I heard that the ST did have some response time issues. Also, I'm getting a killer deal on this one ;)

I have ST30 (not sure about ST60) and it's great for gaming.

Yeah, even with my computer monitor's 2.5ms response time, my several year old panny plasma is still better at handling motion. It makes me sad that plasma is dying. I hope the new lcd and leds and whatnot are better at motion than they used to be.

The only problem I ever had with my plasma is image retention. A bright HUD or even the black bars of a movie can leave an impression. Of course, it's not very noticeable most of the time and doesn't last forever.

Well I got it and it looks great. Anyone know how I turn on the 600hz view for movies?

I've been gaming on a 50" Panasonic plasma (idk the model or response times right off hand) and have been quite pleased with it.

Not sure abut the 600hz stuff...I figured you enabled gaming mode for that or something. :txbconfused:

Make sure to do a proper calibration a hundred or so in. Take baseline measurements and or write down your settings before changing ;)

Plasmas are notoriously better for better frames, just dat glare!

I have that set. It is perfect for gaming and great for HD movies. I watch a ton of Blu Ray movies on it and play X360 on it nightly. Very minimal lag(still no CRT level but nothing is..)

After gaming on my Panasonic Plasma (in game mode) for about 16 months, I went back to gaming on a monitor this week. My kill to death jumped up immediately in multiplayer games, I accomplished some trophies that required exact timing without feeling like I was even being challenged, and it's been blatantly obvious to me how much less input lag I'm experiencing, and how much faster the gtg response time is. I may be going back to gaming on a monitor, and leave the TV for movies.

How the hell would you find out the response time on your TV? Just curious because I would like to no if mines is any good

The latest Panny plasmas has some anti-glare coating, there's very little glare. actually I got more glare from my LED TV than on my Panny.
So yes, Plasma TVs need a Anti-Reflective Filter, and it's worth it :)

(I bought Panasonic's Viera top model 2 years ago, so sad they plan to stop making them.)

I have used my plasma for gaming with no real issues at all. Not sure what the response times on it are.

The plasma response times are MANY times faster than any human response times. Actually 250.000 times faster than a normal human.

The average human (median) reaction time is 215 milliseconds.

Actually there's a human reactiontime test here - try to beat at panny's response times :) :)

Panasonic's mid-range P50ST50 delivers ... a response time of just 0.001ms !!!!

Game On :)
