Rumor: New Fable, 3rd person Perfect Dark, Forza Horizon 4 in Japan, MechAssault

Nothing about "3rd person adventure" would rule out the first two, and the third is a sure bet in today's climate, particularly with MS. I bet it will be another open-world multiplayer shooter, with a SP mode attached as a hook.
Disagree. With Microsoft's current predicament they need a quality, lengthy SP mode to coincide with a great multiplayer.

They need to get Ashen and Below into my hands, dammit!

Perfect Dark and Fable, I believe.
I'm worried about Fable. I want it to be a big in depth game. But MS seems like they are at an impatient point right now and will push a game out too soon. And yet if they do it right it's a long way off. Years.

That’s interesting. Have they done anything other than racing games before?

Don't think so as a group. If i remember correctly its was formed from experienced devs that worked on codemaster racing games like Colin McRae and maybe Burnout and others. I think their experience building an open world for Horizon will help them a lot from there its just combat systems and art style/narrative that would be new. They supposedly hired some ex-fable devs.

True but correct me if I am wrong, didn't playground start a second team and hired those with RPG experience?

Yea that was in the job descriptions posted for the second team.

I'm optimistic. They've got their best development team on it. I think MS will give them the time and space necessary, because they saw what happened last time they tried to be too directive/intrusive with a Fable game. It'll take time (late 2020, I'm guessing?), but that's okay. I'm encouraged that it's in development, and it's in good hands.

Key for Fable will be leadership and getting a team in place that’s pulling in the same direction. I’m excited about how Microsoft has recently prioritized gaming again. Still not confident that they are good at overseeing game development but maybe that all changes with Spencer no longer reporting to Terry Myerson.

Josh Holmes, former Halo 5 lead who left Microsoft because it wasn’t fun working at 343, said things that were pretty indirectly damning about what a mess that studio was and how it impacted Halo 5’s quality. We didn’t hear much from Coalition outside of the disappointment employees had being forced to work on a paint by numbers Gears of War.

In contrast, Sea of Thieves looks like a Rare game that the employees are excited about following a check the box Kinect Sports title. Getting shot out of a cannon in a Pirate game isn’t something the data would’ve pointed to in the board room. It’s finally a good sign and hopefully it becomes a trend and not aberration.

Microsoft has been accused of trying to build games like it’s an engineering project rather than a piece of art. Too data driven which drives some people in their studios crazy. With Phil now the boss and no longer reporting to Terry “what does the data say” Myerson, maybe Xbox games can regain a soul again. Rumors for awhile have been he was the issue more so than even Mattrick. It’ll be exciting to see how these new projects turn out under the new direction and leadership.

Those are some interesting insights into their studios and personnel, thanks for sharing.

I didn't realize that Phil was "no longer reporting Terry 'what does the data say' Myerson," and that Myerson might have been a drag on artistry or experimentation. Yeah, I hope that loosens things up a little.

For the record, I’m no insider. Just listened to interviews and there’s been a lot people who’ve talked about Terry Myerson’s data driven approach not always in line with what’s best for gaming. That’s one of the biggest reasons why Spencer’s promotion was the most exciting Xbox news in many years for gamers. What I said about Myserson holding Xbox back is speculation and theory...but it’s not an original thought of mine and is shared by others who’ve been following gaming.

2020 is seriously optimistic. They started staffing up in 2017 and they will have needed to pick an engine or make one. The one they used for Forza Horizon was Turn 10's engine so they will need a completely different engine for a RPG. They will then need to start prototyping mechanics and all sorts, it's not a new I.P but as it is their first type of game they will need to build all these elements. Making an RPG is a huge undertaking especially for a studio who has never made one before.

IIRC Meyerson was basically responsible for the majority of the s***sword Mattricks took the fell onto. Also, he had the final say on all matters until Satya basically allowed Phil to go over his head somewhat recently.

He's was like the shadow boss that you only hear about in obscure interviews or random insider chatter.

I hope Fable IV is an soft reboot open world future game where you play as down on his luck cop Dennis Fable who has a drug problem (IntreVenus drugs hence the IV) hunting figerative monsters (Criminals) and plays just like The Division.
