Rumor: Next Xbox release date leaks. Dev says 2020

2020 is a good year. Ryzen CPUs should be available in a 12TFlop system for an affordable console price by then. Consistent 4K/60 with real time ray traced lighting for most games. 5G will be a hitting mainstream so wonder if the next Xbox will have something that skips wired internet and links directly to wireless providers. By 2023 most people will have access to much lower latency, high bandwidth ISPs so streaming games will become common. I think the next Xbox will secretly be a bridge to streaming games full time.

I believe no matter what, Microsoft put themselves in a tough spot here. Release in 2020, just 3 years after the X and continue to try and sell people on the "Nobody gets left behind" slogan. Or release in 2021, alongside or possibly 1 year after the PS5 and give Sony the advantage again?

It's going to be almost impossible for Microsoft to win next gen if they give Sony a year head start. Not that they really care, it's all about making money but it's food for thought. People say 2019 or 2020 is early for PS5. Well then when the hell does Xbox Two launch then? They need all the ground they can get.

It will probably still be compatible with current gen games so 2020 makes sense. The difference is that games after the next one comes out will probably no longer work with the original Xbox One, just X forward.

Makes sense, Sony will likely have a new console out in 2019 or 2020 so there is no point in waiting any longer than they do.

My body isn’t ready....I don’t think any first party in either camp would be too. IMO they’d need three games under there belt, maybe a fourth for the current gen “swan song”.

Personally I'd be fine with one more refresh console each before moving to a true next gen, give the tech time to be able to do 4K and a big upgrade in graphics instead of mostly 4K with just a slight upgrade.

I think with these mid gen consoles we shouldn't expect much next gen.

That they exist already diminishes the leap a 'next gen' might normally facilitate. I'm expecting all Xbox One XL games to run on Xbox One X. Even if its a 30 TF monster.

True or not, it will probably be close to there.

MS has said over and over they are done with generations. If you want to the newest/best, upgrade.

If not, stick with what you have. All games playable on any system.

Seems a tad soon right now, but in a couple years I may be ready for an upgrade :)

I just bought the One X and now I have to buy a new console in two years. F*** this.

‘Have to’? It’s like anything else, man. New phones every year, but you don’t ‘need’ the newest one.
If you want the best, then yes... but that’s the same with most things.

I’m hoping by then we see the full ray-tracing implementation on consoles. Oh yes.

I'm going to just come out and say it.

We are now in an era where high graphical fidelity is more often than not, a detriment to a games quality. Todays best games aren't really lookers because spending time and resources on visuals comes at the cost of scale, choice, innovation, scope etc...

Nintendo figured this out ten plus years ago.

Two, we aren't going to get the leap in next gen visuals that many of you want. It doesn't matter if they release in 2019 or 2021. The jump from the XBox 360 to XBO is going to be bigger than the jump from XBO to XB2.

Hardware is no longer king people. Software now reigns supreme.

They aren't speaking about their direct competition though. But, yes. That's going to be a big move for them. Will be good to see how that angle develops.

Sony wont allow EA access. They arent going to allow Microsoft to launch a direct competitor to PSnow on anything.

They wont have to though, when you can give a free trial with every copy of windows.

I dunno i think if theirs a 2 it could compatible with Xbox X(not S)

The next Xbox will be more powerful than the PS5 and still wont have the GPU or memory gap to do anything the X cant do at lower resolutions. CPU maybe, but that didnt stop the first 2 years of this gen being filled with cross gen games. By the time most publishers are confident to do so it will be on the way out anyways.

Yep, it's just like when people were complaining about the PS4 Pro coming out 3 years after the base console, you aren't forced to buy anything it just gives people more options.

Nintendo hasn't really ever pushed technology outside of controls and accessibility. Of course they figured out long ago that they don't really have to even try either since people are chomping at the bit to purchased rehashed and reskinned Marios, Zeldas, Metroids, and Super Smash Bros every 3 or 4 years.

I'm going to be as clear as possible here: I'm definitely going with Xbox for hardware from here on. No way the lose the hardware war again. They were legit smashed for four years for being "under-powered." They won't do that again, I can assure you.

Yeah, but who are you going to go with software from here on?

Either they release a year earlier and have slightly weaker hardware, the same year and have comparable hardware or a year later and have slightly more powerful hardware but it won't make much of a difference because it's going to get harder and harder to have an appreciable advantage in power once the consoles start getting closer to 10TF. You won't see much of a difference on between a 10TF machine and a 12TF machine, hell the difference between the Pro and the One X is 1.8TF and while the One X almost always wins DF face offs and always runs at a higher resolution it seems that the extra memory is the biggest differentiator between the two as that's what allows some games to have higher end textures. Once they get up to those levels we'll see just about every game be 4K and with higher end textures on both of the next consoles.

We may have a chance at an appreciable increase in graphics as consoles are already at or close to 4k, which means (unless the go stupid and chase 8k) we should see resources go to things outside resolution.
