There's a leak at Resetera, suggesting that Xbox was 91% of Switch sales in December, and PS4 was 72%.

https://www.resetera.com/posts/3194466/

If that's accurate, and assuming Switch is between 1.4 and 1.5 million (as estimated earlier), then December NPD looks something like this:

Switch 1.45 million
Xbox 1.32 million
PS4 1.04 million

GTA back at No.1 in the UK

14th time it's been No.1 since its original release.

Looking at Amazon it seems that the PS Pro hype has died down dramatically, it's at number 86 right now and behind 2 other Xbox offerings including the X1X which is ranked at 63. The first PS console on the list is a $287 PS4 Slim coming in at 39. Followed by 1 of 6 Xbox skus at 45.

Oh, okay, so it's

1. Switch
2. Xbox
3. Playstation

As I predicted, thank you, what do I win.
So even when Xbox beats PS they still lose to someone else overall. Like when Wii beat both 360 and PS3 and people kept saying but at least Xbox beat PS!

Just kidding. Or am i really triggered as a PS fan at heart? The world may never know. Awesome for Xbox though, i'd be concerned if the X1 didn't beat out PS4 at some point. Wonder if the 'people are waiting for PS5' excuse fits or if that only applies when talking about Xbox though.

No doubt, Xbox had a strong November and December. December in particular was stronger than many expected. Good for MS and the Xbox brand. It's nice to see them looking strong for a change.

I've got to assume PUBG was part of that surge. I've got no interest in that sort of game myself, but I can't deny its popularity. MS scored big by getting that as a timed exclusive. It was a smart move, because it is so well targeted toward the type of gamer who would lean toward Xbox (oriented toward online gaming and multiplayer shooters). I don't know how much MS paid to secure the exclusivity, but I'm assuming they are coming out on top, given PUBG's system selling capacity and the revenue generated from that.

Gran Turismo Sport didn't make the chart
Forza 7 didn't make the chart
Forza Horizon 3 didn't make the chart
Project Cars 2 didn't make the chart
Assetto Corsa didn't make the chart

But a cartoony racer made the chart. Maybe games don't need to be so realistic looking?

Well, #20 isn't great for Mass Effect. Had the quality been up to usual standards, it would've ranked in the Top Ten. We know that it under-performed, and that Bioware wasn't happy with the sales.

Some people liked the game, to be sure. But I'd attribute it's #20 rank mostly to name recognition. It's a famous franchise, and people were eager for the next installment. They were going to buy regardless.

Btw, note that the #20 placement is based on unit sales, not on revenue. Andromeda's price dropped rapidly. I got it for $20 within a few months of its release, iirc. So maybe half those sales were in the $20 to $40 range.

If it was selling well it wouldn't have been on sale after a month

I don't know about the others, but the first two (GT Sport and Forza 7) weren't released until October, so they'd be at a disadvantage, since the chart covers all of 2017. Games released earlier in the year (e.g., Mario Kart) would have an advantage.

NPD data should be out tomorrow, so that'll be interesting.

Nah. Mario Kart is a casual racer, it appeals to people who aren't into racers. Not too mention it has the market to itself. Where as those who didn't chart all have plenty of competition.

NPD #s for Nintendo:

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo Switch sold more units in December than any other video game system, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Holiday shoppers purchased 1.5 million Nintendo Switch systems during the five-week reporting period of December, which is a critical month for the video game industry. Since its launch 10 months ago, Nintendo Switch has sold more than 4.8 million units, making it the fastest-selling home console in U.S. history.

https://www.businesswire.com/news/h...ntendo-News-Nintendo-Switch-Tops-December-U.S

If that earlier leak* was correct (no one has disputed it yet), then that would make PS4 1.08 million and Xbox 1.365 million for December.

Nov + Dec NPD hardware totals:

PS4: 2.77M (~1.69M + 1.08M)
XB1: 2.745M (~1.38M + 1.365M)

So PS4 outdid Xbox in November by the same amount that Xbox outdid PS4 in December. They both sold nearly the same amount over the holiday.

Some observations:

December:
- 7 Nintendo exclusives in the Top 20.
- Xenoblade Chronicles is looking like it did reasonably well after all.
- PUBG did very well, considering it's a $30 game and this is a revenue-based chart

Best selling games of 2017:
- 7 are GaaS games, and 3 are Nintendo games.
- Nintendo had the only exclusives in the Top 10, and it had 3 of them.

Misc: "The combined hardware installed base of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now exceeds that of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by 18 percent."

Didn't the PS4 had supply issues in the month of December? I recalled a few members at Slickdeals, Fatwallet, nowinstock, and CAG reporting it. Well in Los Angeles it was for me. Here is a photo I took last month. There was plenty of X1 and Switch though.

Not that it matters as all 3 did very well.

Think this is US only but if not might give a clue of how many Xbox ones have been sold

"Combined sales of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One continue on a record-setting pace," Piscatella said. "Over the first 50 months in market for each console, the combined hardware installed base of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now exceeds that of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by 18 percent, and that of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox by 4 percent."

Could games like mario and BoTW have had higher sales numbers, in the UK or else where, if there wasn’t the initial limited (shortage) Switch availability?

No such things as switch shortages here in the UK. While the console is doing much better than the Wii U it's never been a sell out in stores.

I saw plenty of Pro's. The $199 PS4's we gone in minutes. The $189 X1S's seemed to nearly sold out everywhere as well.
