Sexual harassment at Naughty Dog..?

"We have not found any evidence of having received allegations from Mr. Ballard that he was harassed in any way at Naughty Dog "

So he didn't file a complaint. ? That's weird. I wonder why he was fired.

Victims tolerate it. If they don't care enough to do anything about it then why should anyone else give a s***.

He has complained on twitter. That's about it. Just an allegation on twitter.

I wonder if there is a difference between Naughty Dog HR and Sony PlayStation HR. I'm assuming there might be or I don't think he would've made the distinction. Maybe? Maybe not.

It's also interesting they don't deny any of the actual allegations other than pointing out they were haven't found the complaint.

Can't really deny anything if you're not clear what the accusation is.

He should have filed a complaint. I'm assuming ND is telling the truth, that they did not get a complaint.

p.s. Yes, he mentions Sony HR, not ND.

He is a grown man, if someone really did this to him he should have fought back and not sat and stewed for 17 months about it. IF what he's saying is true I don't blame him for what happened but I do blame him for how he handled it after the fact. He should have sued them not sat and waited until it became the "in thing" to come out about your harassment on social media. As it stands right now I'm thinking this whole thing sounds shady on his end, it could be true though but being that he hasn't presented anything more than his word and they are saying they have no record of him even bringing it up it's hard to really know the truth.

If it goes to court and Naughty Dog has to swear under oath, I hope the judge asks them what their definition of 'real time trailer' is.

Amazing. Haven't posted in a month on this board and Val still putting up the fight. lol.

Although, I'm not sure which makes him more bitter. Xbox debates with Wolf King, terrible Destiny 2 sales, or the ND guy getting sexually abused and ND releases a statement just 24 hours later, somehow going through a thorough investigation on a Sunday and already concluding nothing happened.

Inaccurate. They said they didn't get a complaint. That's all they said.

We have recently read on social media that an ex-employee of Naughty Dog, Dave Ballard, claims he was sexually harassed when he worked at Naughty Dog. We have not found any evidence of having received allegations from Mr. Ballard that he was harassed in any way at Naughty Dog or Sony Interactive Entertainment. Harassment and inappropriate conduct have no place at Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment. We have taken and always will take reports of sexual harassment and other workplace grievances very seriously. We value every single person who works at Naughty Dog and Sony interactive Entertainment. It is of utmost importance to us that we maintain a safe, productive workplace environment that allows us all to channel our shared passion for making games.
The allegations were his tweets.

Also, does anyone really think ND put in that much effort into investigating Ballard's claim on a Sunday?

That's his complaint? Tweets? He'll have to do better than that.

He should've filed a real complaint when it happened.

They said they have no evidence of it. No complaint, no evidence. He probably doesn't have any evidence, either. Or he would have named the person.

Named the person and filed a lawsuit long ago and made a lot more than $20k, actually that offer sounds really low. As I said in another thread the hospital I worked for was a smaller non-profit place and they'd basically auto pay $30k for racism lawsuits when a person of color was fired, sadly they did that just to avoid the cost and effort of fighting it. I knew of several who were awful employees and had no basis for their claims yet they got big paydays for doing nothing more than not being good enough to keep their job.

He did didnt he? Then Sony HR did nothing and he got fired the next day.

If his story is true he told Playstation HR. He shouldn't have had to do much more than that.

Well yeah he should have, he's got to be able to prove it to some degree. He could easily have just not liked his boss and been trying to get them fired. You always have to take both sides into consideration in cases like this, plus according to ND they have no record of him ever even bringing it up in the first place. I do have a hard time believing a grown man needs 17 months to come forward and only doing it when it becomes a trendy thing to do on social media for high profile women. I am not downplaying what happened to those women although I think the focus on the entertainment industry is a bit narrow minded, that kind of thing has been going on in every industry forever, it's not right but actresses don't suffer any more than any other woman does they just make more money when it works out.

Our HR at my work is clueless. Not even sure why we hired her. She is 23, no HR experience. If someone was sexually harassed here and they approached her about it (though they wouldn't approach her...but hypothetically), she would laugh. Sometimes I wonder how my boss makes the hiring decisions that he does.

Well its hard to say he has to prove it because we don't even know what "it" is but most likely the only way he could prove it would be if someone witnessed whatever it is he says happened.

You always kind of show why real victims wouldn't come forward. If they can't prove it and people will think they are making it up what do they have to gain?

If that's the case, then Sony HR would've had to do some type of follow-up investigation; they'd be liable if they didn't. In an industry like gaming, that might not have been much more than having a talk with the accused lead about the accusations. If the lead offered a plausible denial, and there wasn't any pattern of other complaints, it probably would have stopped there. All they'd have is a "he said, she said" situation (or rather "he said, he said").

Most of this 1) happens behind closed doors and then 2) gets locked away behind HR and legal walls. So we're doing lots of speculation about what may have happened, and we may never know the truth.

I think most people who get into HR work get into it sort of by accident. No one in HR had that as a career goal. They just sort of end up there.

He should have some kind of proof that he reported it though, either an email or some kind of form that he surely would have made a copy of if not given one. You don't generally file complaints verbally there has to be something official. The bottom line is it's his word against whoever he is accusing and you can't assume guilt especially with not knowing who the person he was accusing is and their character, hell we don't even know his character. It's easy to jump on the "oh let's just assume it's real" bandwagon because we feel sorry for true victims of this kind of behavior but at the same time plenty of people try to take advantage of that sympathy and hurt others when they have an axe to grind.

I don't know about that, I think it sounds fun!

Being able to lord everyone's secrets over them... I'd be drunk with power!

As opposed to just my normal kind of drunk.

And if you are the HR, who is going to stop you from getting your grope on? They're basically gods.

I have a hard time believing anything a guy says about sexual harassment 17 months later while still being unemployed... Timing is strange to use these women now, but why not when they came out about Bill Cosby, or Trump?

This feels more like slander due to being without a job for so long

Yes, I agree. Well said.

Happens everywhere unfortunately. As a victim of female on male sexual harassment, i can say it goes unreported often. It was in a joking manner but i liked it because i'm straight and a guy, right? No, i just chose to handle it with the harasser and not make a big deal out of it. This guy bringing it up after 17 months, after collecting the paychecks like nothing was wrong just sounds like sour grapes.

We need details. Not that it matters, harassment is harassment but was he physically touched? If he was and didn't report it then he's an idiot. Plain and simple. My boss(female) got harassed by a male co-worker every day, verbally and physically. She didn't report it, but she didn't like it. They were somewhat friendly, as she gave him rides to and from work. But it still happened, and it was still wrong.
