I tried to play the PS3 version, but I was put off by the muddy graphics and lack of color, and in particular by the awkward controls. I didn't make it more than an hour before giving up. They've done so much work here, though, I want to give it another try. Game seems pretty legendary.

The PS2 version looks ahead of its time. Hard to believe the game looked that good back then.

Oh, it is. Not to be an ass or anything but these are the kind of games you miss out on when you got a stick up your bum and swear by Xbox, PC, etc.

Could never do without a Sony console. I don't know how people even consider it, let alone let it happen. Like, do you even game bro if you don't like these games.

Come on, TD, it sounds like you're saying, "You're not a real gamer if you don't like ___." Everyone has different tastes. Some people just don't like these games. I'm only lukewarm on them myself. I thought Ico was pretty cool, but I didn't finish it. And I couldn't get more than an hour into either Shadow of Colossus or The Last Guardian before becoming impatient and saying "f*ck this." They're quiet, atmospheric, introverted Japanese games with weird control schemes, awkward movement, and misbehaving cameras. I don't blame anyone for not liking them. I'm not even sure I like them myself, lol.

...or you just couldn't afford 2 consoles back then? Especially when you had a Dreamcast when they folded, and knew Xbox with Halo was right around the corner. It was kind of a 3 console generation, only Dreamcast and Xbox didn't overlap.

I always loved that I could go over to a friend's house to play games like Ico, Zoe, GTA3, Ratchet and Clank, and so many others on PS2. I was always sad I missed Shadow of the Colossus, and I really cannot wait for the remake.

I have never played this game, but if it is anything like Last Guardian, I am going to make love to this game on day one.

I hadn't heard of this game until this year, but I think I like what I see.

Some of the artistic choices on the mobs, I prefer the colour pallets of the PS3 version, but the game still looks pretty special, and it's obvious they want people to notice the work they've put in, and rightly so.

Sony really needs to work at promoting their games better on the playstation store. I went to pre-order this game the other day and it was nowhere to be found unless you type in a search. They have all kinds of games that are coming out later to pre order but this one isn't featured and it's coming out very soon.

Holy crap, those devs do not look healthy!

Between the SNES classic and Shadow of Colossus remake there's not much more that i need. This gonna be straight cash.

Digital Foundry preview. Recommend that you watch on 4K/HDR capable device. Looks good.

From 4:48 to 8:00 or so, they talk about the high quality of the remake.

"I feel like they maybe used the original assets as a guide, but that's it. This feels like everything was remade from scratch, using their own methods. This doesn't feel like it's simply running on SotC code. This feels like a complete, from-the-ground-up remake of the original game."

"The sensation, the atmosphere, the feeling of being there -- it's spot-on and in some ways better. It just feels really, really good. I'm blown away by what Bluepoint has accomplished here."

Makes me glad this is going to be my first experience with the game, I have a feeling I'd have been frustrated with the original.

The original PS2 game was severely crippled by the underpowered hardware. The game was a choppy mess most of the time with some pretty bad controls, not to mention how dull the color palette was. I had to quit the game after beating 3 or 4 of the Colossi because of the issues. I'm looking forward to playing this again how it was meant to be played.

Here is Digital Foundry's analysis.

I like how BP modernized the visuals but still kept the atmosphere for the most part.

Saying the game crushes Witcher 3 visually is a bold statement by John. Can't wait to see for myself soon.

I've never played this game, so I look forward to picking this up at some point down the line. Too backed up on my backlog at the moment to get it though.

A few samples:

IGN, 9.7:

The true definition of a classic, the gameplay and story of Shadow of the Colossus are every bit as great and emotional today as they were in 2005. This outstanding remaster skillfully enhances those qualities with improved controls, performance, and sheer graphical beauty. It remains one of the best PlayStation games ever made, and it's wonderful that Sony has brought it back to the fore so a new generation of gamers can experience it without having to look past its aged facade.

Metro Game Central, 9:

A stunning recreation of one of gaming's most enduring classics, and what remains a towering example of the art of interactive entertainment.

Push Square, 10:

One of the greatest games ever made resurrected in one of the greatest remakes of all time. Shadow of the Colossus remains faithful to the 2006 original, but its presentation is on par with the very best that the PS4 has to offer. A masterpiece.

Destructoid, 10:

Not to diminish the accomplishments of this remake, but it's all possible because Team Ico's Shadow of the Colossus is so impossibly perfect. It's epic and majestic and emotional and imaginative and breathtaking. There are so many superlative adjective you could attach. Shadow of the Colossus' reputation is as great as some of its tallest colossi. This remake might just help some people see that a little more clearly.

GI, 9:

Shadow of the Colossus is a masterpiece, and developer Bluepoint has done a fantastic job bringing it to a new generation.

This game is a no brainer for me. I loved The Last Guardian.
