Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Rise certainly has the better DLC. The MP in the 2013 TR is pretty silly. At least in Rise, there are 2 decent gameplay DLC, some witchhunting, DLC & a min 'treasure hunt' in Croft Manor. Never played or interested in the 'Zombies/Survival' DLCs. I find them silly, but it could be just me.

This will definitely be the lowest ranked Tomb Raider of the three.

There's a bunch of worrying previews of the game which, as we know, doesn't bode well for the final game.

Looks like a bunch of outlets published previews on April 27th and a bunch of them are negative. This is why I'm winning the bet with Hedon.
Oddly, after the E3 2018 presentation, reviews are the exact opposite of the single one you posted. The game is actually bigger than previous ones in map size, has double the puzzles, added underwater gameplay, and doubled exploration. They also made the story much more engaging, and allow you to use the native language in areas as an option. The hub is so big now, that it is split up. It's the largest in the history. Your link is bunk.

even PC gamer says they now see it opens up into a big world after the most recent E3 showing:

Looks like things bode VERY well for the new Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Yeah, Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 had positive previews before they both released too. We know how those Metacritic scores turned out.

The positive preview is largely worthless. Negative previews are generally bad omens.

Now I see why the critics are panning this game...I mean, just look at this s***....

Only 2 days of early access? Is that supposed to be tempting? :txbconfused:

Did Hedon just post an advertisement for a game and use it to give said game merit? Lol

Congratulations, you just played yourself.

Remember when you said God of War was going to be bad. That aged well.

Remember when I said all the games in the Uncharted franchise were bad? I think you misunderstood the context of that discussion. My beef with God of War always centered on the genre itself, not it's potential Metascore.

With Tomb Raider, I think it's metascore will underwhelm.

Just watched the first 15 minutes of "gameplay" man the graphics overall are nice but her animation while walking looks strange, and what's up with that guys ribbon ponytail? They should have just kept his hair short and it would have been fine. There seems to be a lot of cutscenes in that footage, I didn't have my headphones on so I didn't hear what they were saying but if you do watch it just beware you may hear things you don't want to because a lot of it isn't gameplay. I'm sure I'll play this at some point but I doubt I'll buy it day one, too many other big games coming out that I'm probably going to be spending way too much time on as it is.

SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER - DIFFICULTY AND ACCESSIBILITY

SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER - DIFFICULTY AND ACCESSIBILITY
08 . 08 . 2018

Play the way you want in Shadow of the Tomb Raider with new accessibility selections and customizable difficulty settings! Go beyond the single toggle for altering gameplay and say hello to new options like:
  • Optional Y Axis Inversion
  • Toggling on and off Vibration
  • Reducing Camera Shake
  • The option to center the camera horizontally so that it is ‘soft locked’ on Lara’s back, requiring the use of only one stick for movement. The other stick can still be used to move the camera if desired.
  • The option to tap rather than hold left trigger to aim down the sights
  • The option to use right (default) or left stick to aim, when looking down sights (left trigger)
  • The option to hold button press prompts rather than repeated tapping
  • The option to push the stick directionally for crank control prompts rather than rotate
  • Adjustable aim sensitivity
Our Audio accessibility options include:
  • Subtitles: Off, On with Color, On without Color
  • Environmental Subtitles: Display subtitles for all conversations taking place nearby, or only for critical conversations
  • Closed Captioning: Display additional or interpretive information such as sound effects, musical cues, and other relevant audio information
We’re not stopping there because we’ve made it possible for players to independently adjust difficulty for puzzles, traversal, and combat. There are four unique settings for the aforementioned trio: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Deadly Obsession. While traditional options like easy, normal, and hard can be swapped at any time, once a player chooses Deadly Obsession, it applies to all three categories (puzzles, traversal and combat) and they will be unable to change the difficulty for the remainder of the playthrough. Choose-wisely…

A loyal friend to any Tomb Raider completionist, Survival Instincts is back once again. Adventurers looking for a more holistic experience can toggle Beacon (next objective location) and Glow (interactable objects) on/off regardless of difficulty settings (except when on the Deadly Obsession setting, of course).
For a deeper look at the game’s difficulty settings, feast your eyes on the breakdown below.

Love it. Going to set Exploration and combat to Normal and Puzzles to easy. More games should go this route with difficulty sliders.

I'm hoping to be able to get rid of the shaky camera entirely. I love the idea behind the difficulty sliders for combat and for environmental stuff.

If anything it will contribute to their negative reviews :)

The writing in RotR is pretty bad. Every time Lara is about to get killed, someone saves her at the very last minute. It's corny. Level design also feels contrived. It's obvious exactly where to go next, and the necessary supplies always just happen to be there before an encounter. Again, very gamey.

I'm glad they are making these sorts of games (SP action-adventures), and I'm enjoying the action/combat itself, but they need to increase the quality of writing and re-introduce some form of challenge to making your way through the levels. I guess that "hard" option discussed above is one way to address it, although I wouldn't want to go through the game without any survivor vision.

I agree. I never heard anyone that say. "I love shaky cam" ever.

I am hard mode for puzzle & exploration all the way. Combat, normal is good enough as I am fairly average in combat part of action games.

I know I am superfical. I hope the game has great & diverse amount of outfits, but fit the theme.

The sad thing is, on 14th Sept, I will start my Holiday for 2 weeks. I will be going India for the first time, to attend a Friend's Wedding, before heading back to Singapore for another week to visit my parents, meet some old friends, & travel. It will be Oct when I am finally back home.

But I should be getting the Croft edition from Steam. I always get the special package for Tomb Raider games.
