http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-05-20-its-time-for-your-annual-shenmue-3-rumour

E3 is just around the corner, which means it's obviously time for the rumour mill to creak into action and start guffing out hints that long awaited games are finally going to be confirmed. Today it's the turn of that old favourite, Shenmue 3, the MIA concluding chapter in Yu Suzuki's ambitious and expensive series of adventures about revenge, martial arts and driving forklift trucks.

This latest kerfuffle seems to have started on Japanese website Gamestalk and boasts the classic features of any good conspiracy theory: murky photos of unknown origin, annotated with red circles and arrows. In this case, they purport to show images from some sort of promotional video bearing the logos of both original Shenmue publisher Sega and, for some reason, Square Enix. The PS4 and Steam logos are also visible, along with a Spring 2016 date.

Ready for the proof? Open wide, here it comes. The images appear to show a close up of a jacket, which seems to have the same motif as the one worn by Shenmue lead character Ryo. Three petals can also be seen. The first petal has one cut in it while the second has two. This, apparently, proves that an HD remaster of the first two Shenmue games is on the way. The third petal has three cuts, so obviously Shenmue 3 is happening. Obviously.

I would be very perplexed and unhappy if Shen Mue 3 ended up a Playstation exclusive. Perplexed because the series was never on Sony Platforms (the opposite, in fact), and MS even had it on the OG xbox. That better be for Yakuza or something. :(

Microsoft made that rumor photo so people get on the Sony E3 hype train only to have Microsoft reveal it during their conference earlier in the day.

1. It's about Shenmue
2. SE
3. PS4 and PC only
I agree about the first one, but SE IS possible, because SEGA is a publisher only now, if i remember correctly? PS4 and PC only is possible, because Japan barely cares for Xbox One. Kinda similar to Star Ocean on PS4 only. That's kinda how i saw it :)

Shenmue sold more outside of Japan
Also Ryo never zipped up that jacket SEGA is not just a publisher.

It also just looks fake.

Tupac comes out with Yu Suzuki to introduce Shenmue 3 at E3. And then they call Gabe Newell on stage for you know what....

I thought he was just trolling...then i saw this:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=167799146&postcount=1055

This makes it very plausible for a Shenmue 3 at E3...but my questions then would be...

Is it still relevant? Shenmue that is. The Street Fighter 5 deal was understandable, cause SF means profit. But does Shenmue too?

Shenmue will be a megaton that's isnt. It will be like real life sighting and confirmation of Big Foot in the wild. The fact if it exists will likely be more interesting than what it is.

Yeah i can see where you are coming from. At the time on DC it was amazing, but it really isn't all that anymore now. For the real hardcore fans out there it will be a megaton, but that's about it. Some people seem to think this will be like SFV. Sony paying for Shenmue 3 development. I highly doubt that though...Shenmue 3 is not guaranteed profit, SFV is. Is Sony in the position to make such risky decisions? Paying for development for a game that really might not sell all that well?

I don't doubt that Sony funded development, if it's even true. I know that both Sony and Microsoft had discussion about reviving the series.

I think it could be amazing depending on the direction. If its similar in style to the first two or Yakuza, forget it. If it's a more realistic vision , I will be all over it.

Yes and no. I feel like Microsoft left Sega fans out to dry for too long. I know there was a deal that fell through but I thought Shenmue 2 deserved a little more advertising and ESPECIALLY dual analog support/conversion. I honestly think last gen controls really hurt that game in sales. Maybe that was more Suzuki-san, but MS should have known how to handle that better.

They had many more chances to pick up or co-publish awesome titles like Ecco the Dolphin, but where has MS been all this time? If Sony is actually willing to fund Shenmue (doubt it, actually) that's finally a great reason for me to pick up a PS4.

I honestly think that this many years later, it is a must to reboot the game with 1&2 before part 3. They can lay down a more modern control scheme while they are at it. It also needs to be beautiful to look at by today's standards (just like it was back then). Keep the rest and I'm all in.

On NeoGAF i read that Quantic Dream apparently has been developing it together with Yu Suzuki. If it's indeed a Sony exclusive, i hope that's true, cause i can actually see QD make such a game. At the end of the day it's a great...how should i say...injustice iguess, that we never got to find out about the ending to Shenmue. So this would be great. But it seems pretty sure things are happening...cause the Sony guy has started following Yu Suzuki, but Geoff Keighley now too.

I think the point of SFV for Sony was the fact the PS4 was going to be used on the tournament circle and get all that advertising but course we all know how that worked out. I'd love for them to make shenmue 3 happen but I don't see the point of it for them.

Gamers are a much different breed now compared back to when Shenmue was a hot title. I dont think it would do well this generation unless it breaks new ground.

Does Shenmue even have a chance in today's market? I feel like it'd need a huge rehaul in it's approach as a game.

No only hardcore gamers will care and Sony seems to have them already this gen. Fact is other then older gamers nobody will even know wtf shun use even is it may as well be a new series to most gamers now. They'd have to push it as something new to get good sales.

It breaks my heart to say but shun mue is just not a money maker or console seller even if I myself want it so bad.
