Shenmue will be a megaton that's isnt. It will be like real life sighting and confirmation of Big Foot in the wild. The fact if it exists will likely be more interesting than what it is.
Yeah i can see where you are coming from. At the time on DC it was amazing, but it really isn't all that anymore now. For the real hardcore fans out there it will be a megaton, but that's about it. Some people seem to think this will be like SFV. Sony paying for Shenmue 3 development. I highly doubt that though...Shenmue 3 is not guaranteed profit, SFV is. Is Sony in the position to make such risky decisions? Paying for development for a game that really might not sell all that well?
Id be fine if they remake a hd version of Shenmue 1 and 2.
Yes and no. I feel like Microsoft left Sega fans out to dry for too long. I know there was a deal that fell through but I thought Shenmue 2 deserved a little more advertising and ESPECIALLY dual analog support/conversion. I honestly think last gen controls really hurt that game in sales. Maybe that was more Suzuki-san, but MS should have known how to handle that better.I would be very perplexed and unhappy if Shen Mue 3 ended up a Playstation exclusive. Perplexed because the series was never on Sony Platforms (the opposite, in fact), and MS even had it on the OG xbox. That better be for Yakuza or something.
I honestly think that this many years later, it is a must to reboot the game with 1&2 before part 3. They can lay down a more modern control scheme while they are at it. It also needs to be beautiful to look at by today's standards (just like it was back then). Keep the rest and I'm all in.Id be fine if they remake a hd version of Shenmue 1 and 2.

Does Shenmue even have a chance in today's market? I feel like it'd need a huge rehaul in it's approach as a game.

Shenmue 3 deserves more than kickstarter. $2 million is not going to take it far, given the budget for the original was around $47 million and by todays standards that's $67 million.
I still haven't beaten the first shenmue and I never played Shenmue 2....Ahhhh I gotta get a dreamcast and the game to finish it and also get shenmue 2 for xbox.

I'd bet they have backing from a few outside investors beyond Sony. Sega has their hand in the pot as well,so they might be contributing something as well based on the success of the KS.Sony is funding the game. The Kickstarter was/is a ploy to gauge interest. There is no way they could make the game with $4 million, let alone $2 million.
