Solo: A Star Wars Trailer

Its going to make significantly less than the last spin off all with a much bigger budget.

Its probably just a blip but should set off alarm bells for Disney
Yeah, maybe they will realize that releasing another SW movie 5 months later is a bad idea. The movie isn't bad.

They did announce that they’re moving forward with a Boba Fett movie.

Disney/Kathleen Kennedy is part to blame for letting go of the original directors and delaying

Do you mean hiring the a$$hats that they had to fire? Yes. They should have never been given the job in the first place. This movie would have absolutely bombed as a 21 Jump Street in space, which is exactly what people in the movie are alluding to. I'm amazed how Ron Howard was able to fix the movie in such short order, re-filming over 70% of the movie.

So far, I'd say that under Disney, I like where they are going with spin-off movies over the sequels. Rogue One was pretty good (it's actually some people's favorite SW movie) and Solo is like a SW sleeper. Now that they have signed on the Logan director for the Boba Fett movie, I just have more faith in these movies than the main series. They really flesh out the universe in a way that I like.

I guess my main problem with post-OT Star Wars in the main series is the Jedi. The prequels unforgivably stripped them their mysticism away to midichlorians and made them act more like space-police in Ep II. Now it seems like we have the mysticism back, but not enough clarification of right and wrong and good or bad. That's what is still currently missing, IMO.

Seriously, this Johnny come lately hate on Kathleen Kennedy is kinda funny. It's not like she's ever produced anything good...

  • ET
  • Poltergeist
  • Gremlins
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
  • Goonies
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
  • Back to the Future I-III
  • Jurassic Park
  • Schindler's List
  • Plus a LOT more big movies from that era and beyond.
There's a lot of so-called Star Wars fans talking out of their Sarlacc pits. She's definitely qualified. She tried to get fresh blood with new vision involved with Star Wars. I don't blame her for that, even though there should have absolutely been better at screening them.

No hate towards her, leads to the darkside ya know. But everyone makes mistakes and she’s just the face of it, she’s the Kevin Feige of the Star Wars Verse....they did the best they could. I’m actually excited to see it tomorrow :)

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that I was lumping you into that group. I've just heard a bit of this lately.

No, she doesn't even come close to Kevin Feige. He's one of a kind. He's also a creative producer that absolutely knows the source material inside and out. The difference between Marvel and Star Wars, is that the MCU is a bunch of adaptations, while Star Wars has movies yet to be written. Kevin Feige is like Kathleen Kennedy plus Pablo Hidalgo put together. She put Hidalgo in control of the story group. Nobody better to be in charge of the Star Wars story group like Hidalgo. He is the curator.

83 million 3 day and 65 million international. Weird to think of that as bombing but it kind of is.

Yeah, this seems to be happening, and bombing worse than predicted. I have a friend in Denver who went to go see it last night and he said that he and his wife were the only ones in the theater.

It's kinda sad, as the movie is actually pretty decent, IMO. Of course, one of the biggest problems is that nobody asked for a movie about young Han Solo in the first place. (including myself) Still, you have the writer from Empire/RotJ and his son penning the script. You have Ron Howard swooping in like Mr. Wolf and fixing a lot of stuff at the last minute, and really cleaning it up from top to bottom. It's not a bad product, in the end. There was just no escaping the bad press that the movie had already gotten, and it's only been 5 months since the internet was up in arms about Episode: VIII.

Saw it yesterday. It was ok. Some good bits in it but it was kind of forgettable overall. One question though ...

who was that talking to Qi' Ra at the end in the hologram? I can't be Darth Maul as he is dead years

It was him.

I actually enjoyed this movie, though. Thought it was better than The Last Jedi, but not as good as Rogue One.

Didn't they bring him back in rebels but Obi Wan killed him again? Is Rebels part of this time line? It must be. Nice touch having him in there even if it was a little strange.

Hmm....

A setup for DM Star Wars movie?

They done his story completely in Rebels. From how he comes back into it to how he goes it out again (That one was fantasic!). I can't see them doing a movie on him. I was reading somewhere yesterday (reddit i think) that a Boba Fett movie its going to get made.

My understanding is the appearance here predates those of Rebels or the prequel Star Wars movies.

That can't be right. In the sequential timeline it goes like this -

clone wars (DM getting killed before they even start)
rise of the empire about 10 years later with the arrival of darth vader. (covered during Rebels)
DM tracks down Obi Wan , finds out about Luke (who is still kid at this point) and gets killed again (rebels)
Beginning of the rebellion in earnest (around the time of Solo) so it would be a few years after again.
Rebellion gets into full swing (around the time of Rebels)
Rogue One happens - this is beyond what happens in Rebels currently but they are close to it.

So Solo takes place during the same time period that Rebels is happening but close to the end of it... at which point Dm had already been killed a second time by obi wan.

Spoilering for the sake of those who have not see yet.

If you say so. I am by no means a big fan of the franchise and therefor my personal knowledge of timelines is almost not existent. The pre-dates stuff was just what I have been seeing fans say. Although, pre-dates was not really accurate, more like a lull in the characters history.

However, he did appear to have cybernetic legs. So perhaps a hint at how he survived Obi-Wan?

You guys should use spoiler tags...

Pablo Hidalgo has been in charge of the timeline and visual dictionary for all SW canon for a long time, and has worked on Star Wars since at least the Cone Wars. There is no way he would screw up the timeline. Solo = 12 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin) The Obi Wan encounter in Rebels apparently happens in 2 BBY, 10 years later.

This is an article I found that lays out the timeline.

That Obi Wan encounter in Rebels happens when Luke is about 10 years old. So it is not 2 years before Yavin. Thats what confused me about that scene. Nice link though. I'll read that on my lunch break in the morning.
