It has been good. Some of its most recent games have scored relatively well, but this is most certainly a setback in Sonic's recovering reputation.

On one hand, I respect that they tried something new (even if that something new looked exactly like the competition), but on the other hand, maybe this is a sign that they need to return to the Unleashed/Colors/Generations style gameplay.

An unannounced Sonic the Hedgehog game may be headed to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U in 2015, according to a photograph apparently taken at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair and published in Spindash.

Amid snapshots of Sonic-branded action figures, keychains and plushies at toy manufacturer Jazwares' booth, there's also a photo (seen below) of a sign that lists three games for Sega's blue mascot. The first two, Sonic: Lost World and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, were released last year. The third is listed as "New 2015 title [to be announced]" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U.

The sign also correctly references Sonic Boom, an animated Sonic series headed to Cartoon Network this fall.

Sega and Nintendo announced an agreement in May 2013 to bring the next three Sonic games exclusively to Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Lost World and Sochi represent the first two-thirds of that agreement. The final game has yet to be announced.

We've reached out to Sega for confirmation of the new game and will update this article with more information as we receive it.

Lets hope its better than the last one.

Make it like Sonic Generations but with just 2D levels and I'll love it.

Pictured below: Complete inventory of ****s I currently give about Sonic and Sega:

Got milk?

I dare say there are more iterations of Sonic than any other IP, maybe Mario and all its offshoots?

Sonic, meh. If they were to bring back Crash Bandicoot, I might be interested. But Sonic, not so much.

More Sonic Generations and less Sonic Unleashed and I'll bite.

I've never been able to get into Sonic games. I don't know why, just don't like them. New show on Cartoon Network though; maybe I'll check that out.

2014 will be the "Year of Sonic", according to Sega.

Sega will be holding an event later today (February 6th) to announce the future of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

Whether or not Sega will announce any plans to its exclusivity deal with Nintendo remains to be seen, as does whether or not the criticisms leveled at Sonic's last outing, the Wii U's Sonic: Lost World, will be discussed.

The event will take place at 12:30pm ET, so make sure to check in to Crave Online to hear what Sega has up its sleeve for the Blue Blur.

Interesting. However, I think this will be far from the year of Sonic. I think this'll just ultimately end up being a year that hand some Sonic news included in it among a lot more interesting news.

No friggin way sonic looks that grand

I mean WOW

Developed by Big Red Button Entertainment who looks to be a team of former Naughty Dog staffers. Prior work with Jak and Daxter, Uncharted and Sly Cooper

If its not done internally by Sega, then there is hope, especially with the new team experience in platformers. Great fun with Jak & Daxter in PS2 days.

But release on Wii U? Not sure it make best business sense. But it certainly means I will not be playing.

Its part of the 2 game deal but after the last one flopped.....

Sonic is a bit too tall, but overall, I like the new look. Hope it sticks.

Wow, Nintendo is really working with Sega to get exclusives.

I like the new look but you can clearly see the similarities with Jak/Daxter . I hope this turns out well and maybe Nintendo will money hat a few more games from Sega.

This is actually the 2nd game in a 3 game deal.

Those hoping Sonic Boom will make it to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are out of luck. Steve Singer, Nintendo's VP of licensing, was at the event to emphasize that Sonic Boomrepresents the second of three planned Sonic exclusives for Nintendo machines. Looks like there will be one more to round a trilogy between Lost World and Boom.

I like the trailer, but I really don't like the new design of the characters. I hope the designs stay with this exclusive deal.

...

I love Sonic and its characters but I don't like these char designs.

Can't say I like those character designs at all. And Knuckles - gaddam.. Looks like they just stretched him out in Photoshop. Horrible.

I see them now that everyone pointed it out. Never noticed it to be honest. Still though, big fan of the new look.
