The PS4 and PlayStation Vita will officially be launched in China very early next year.

Sony will release the machines on January 11th priced at CY 2,899 (£299) and CY 1,299 (£134) respectively. The PS4 will include a 500GB HDD and controller while it appears the Vita will only include the 1GB of internal memory and not an additional card.

70 third party publishers and developers are on board to deliver content to the region, with a handful of Chinese titles having already been confirmed – King of Wushu (Suzhou Snail Digital), Mr Pumpkin Adventure (Shanghai Youju) and One Tap Hero (Shanghai Kena).

Chinese companies Modian and Shanghai Oriental Pearl Culture Development will be at hand to support Chinese devs through the process of producing PS4 games in the region.

A number of Western devs are signed up to the Chinese program, too, including EA, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Warner Bros, Disney, Bethesda, Codemasters, CD Projeckt, Focus, Halfbrick and Nordic Games.

“PS4 is expanding at the fastest rate in PlayStation hardware history, and the global gaming community is enjoying the ultimate entertainment experience only available on PlayStation,” SCE president and CEO Andrew House said.

“We are delighted that we are able to fully launch our business in China, which is a market with great potential. We look forward to delivering exciting software, convenient services and entertainment experiences only possible on PlayStation to the many gamers in China.”

Xbox One, which launched in China back in September, costs CY 3,699 (£380) for the vanilla version and CY 4,299 (£443) for the Kinect SKU.

Basically £100 less than the XB1, not bad. Does the Chinese contempt for the Japanese extend to their products too?

Good pricing strategy from Sony, it will sell well. MS will have to drop the price of the Xbox to match or lose this market.

When are Sony going to discontinue the VITA? Seems like a waste of time just about everywhere except Japan.

Barely, and it is doing worse than expected.

Profit is profit. Stupid to think they shouldn't bother releasing their profitable handheld in the worlds largest economy. Then again, you don't work for one of these companies do you?

Small profit. I imagine the logistics and marketing will be very expensive too. Look, I have no issue with VITA. I think it is a slick piece of hardware, but it is not selling well. This is why Sony got in financial trouble, continually trying to push products that are obviously not catching on....in other words, ignorance.

Oh sh*&! Please email Sony about the cost of logistics and marketing in China. They don't know about this stuuuuff!

Oh wait, you're group C. Why am I surprised?

I just ordered a Vita. I counted my free PS+ games and have somewhere between 25-30 Vita games. Even if they never release another game for it it will be a worthwhile purchase.
