Sony looking deep down into Microtransactions

Well, Kodera was network services, and that's the main cash cow of the PS business -- not hardware, not software, but network services. So he's positioned to help them move further in that direction.

Nothing unique to Sony here. The entire industry is going this way.

In a way I'm happy... This will cure my want in buying games, and will save me a lot of money

Surprised they're even in business still honestly, so i'll take it. Poor Sony has to make money somehow, right? Selling buildings and closing dev studios isn't helping. /Xbox fanboy hat off.

Waiting for this to blow up like how every PS exclusive will be going to PC and Sony was going to do DRM also so it's okay.

Kaz has done an awesome job. I think it was their most profitable quarter for the last 9 years or something?

I just checked NeoGaf and crickets chirping :)

Doesn't* Uncharted already have loot chests and microtransactions?

I believe it has additional paid content on the MP side. I'm not sure about whether they are loot crates per se. It doesn't have any GaaS stuff on the SP side, though.

GAF has really been chopped down. They're one-tenth the forum they used to be. All the cool kids are at Resetera (where there is a long thread about this subject, btw).

Uncharted 3 has (had?) an online pass. Then the multiplayer became a seperate f2p online game with microtransactions.

The Last of Us had microtransations up the ying yang (some say too much that it ruined it) and Uncharted 4 has loot boxes.

Hopefully this means more Sony game will ship with multiplayer.

This doesn't seem like news. The whole industry has been looking into microtransactions for a while now right? Especially the big publishers?

Yeah, there is nothing surprising here. It is what is happening across the whole industry. Nintendo is doing it, too, in their own way. It just seems to be in the news a lot in the past month or two.
