Sony Loses “The Last Guardian” Trademark in the US

It's a good thing Sony isn't making any games under such a trademark or Sony would be tripping balls.

Don't despair, all is not lost. Info from an attorney:

"Interestingly, Kiphanie Radford, the member of Sony Computer Entertainment America’s legal team that was in charge of filing the trademark information for The Last Guardian is no longer with the company, according to her LinkedIn profile. Radford joined the legal firm Cobalt earlier this year."

"Saivar goes on to note that this USPTO abandonment isn’t final. Sony has two months to tell the USPTO that it missed the deadline and ask for another extension — the company will have to pay an additional fee for not filing within the appropriate amount of time."

So one possibility is that Ms. Radford's departure somehow caused them to inadvertently miss the deadline. And he notes that Sony still has two months to file.

Could be re-branding. Changed the name and no longer need the old trademarked name, maybe.

Title should be Sony loses The Last Guardian name. Sounds like clickbait when worded the other way. :really:

But anyway, if they did lose the name, they could just call it another -- like The Last Other Guardian.

Think he has gone indie as have a few other key people but they agreed to finish their jobs on this?

ha...

"If Sony losing the trademark for The Last Guardian depressed you, you can now wipe your tears, as the failure to provide an extension request was unintentional. The good folks at the house of PlayStation simply forgot to send in the necessary documents."

lol. woops.

And all across the land, the nerds breathed a sigh of relief...

"The funniest part in this comedy of errors is that this isn’t the first time that Sony forgot to request an extension, causing The Last Guardian‘s untimely legal death. It already happened back in 2012."

I don't know about you guys, but in Outlook, I set up recurring tasks to remind me of these things at work so this stuff doesn't happen.

I think it was probably on Ms. Radford's Outlook calendar. However, Ms. Radford up and left.

PS10 for me. The fact that Duke Nuken Forever came out gives me hope (whether it will be rubbish or not is another story)
