Spider-Man

Insomniac has been giving the press a chance to play the game and a lot of them are reporting their experience. I have to say it looks awesome and all of the stuff I've read/watched seems every positive. There is a thread on neogaf with all of these videos, I haven't watched all of them but I'm posting them here.

I'd almost bet anything that this game scores over 90 with ease. Best Spider-Man game ever shouldn't even be a question. This is the Arkham Asylum treatment people have been waiting for.

It's crazy when you think about it. You'd think super heroes would be some of the easiest games to make given that all you need to do is do it right. The script is already there. Gameplay concept already there. Just do it right. Yet they're used as quick cash ins for devs.

This looks like it'll be more fun than the acclaimed Arkham games to me, plus since there is no cape you can actually see what the hell he's doing during the fights lol.

Some nice upgrades to the characters in the cut scenes since they first showed them, the skin looks much more realistic and detailed.

I hope so, but reviewers seem pretty demanding, and you've always got people who don't like it, lowering the average. Horizon didn't make 90 (89), and plenty of other great games come in under the 90 mark. No shame. I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if it came in somewhere around 85, give or take.

Make an avatar bet with Sunset ;)

Just checked amazon and gamestop.com and it's unavailable on both.

It wouldn’t even pop up on an Amazon search for me, didn’t bother with GS, but Best Buy never sent me an alert and it’s kept the same “comin soon” since the it first appeared :(

Guess I’ll wait for the standard SKU to go on sale :p

I'm glad the game will have a sense of humor. That's one of the things I liked about Spider-Man as a kid. It wasn't all deadly serious. It was serious, sure, but it was also lighthearted and occasionally funny. I think that's another talent Insomniac brings to the table. They can capture that serious/lighthearted balance pretty well.

I'll make a bet with you. 90 or i have to use an Xbox One avatar for a month.

Less than 90 or all you gotta do is talk good about PlayStation for a month. What do you say? :D
I am already in a bet. My guess for this game, based on early previews, 93.

I doubt it'll be that high. That's nearly God of War. I think we're looking at sub-90, personally. I'd guess 86 or 87.

Pre-orders look good.

Spider-Man’s Strong Pre-order Performance Is “Very Flattering”, Says Insomniac

"Apparently, pre-order performances of the game have been very, very good, and Insomniac are, obviously, flattered that people are already putting so much faith in them and their game.

“It’s very flattering people would put their money and faith in us already,” Insomniac Community Manager James Stevenson said in an interview with Stuff. A large reason for why it’s been performing as well as it has been, I think, has to be the game’s incredible marketing."

Hype train:

Yep preordered digitally. Lost a bit of hype after sooo much footage released, but I still can’t wait.

I'm getting both Spidey and RDR2. However, I'd pick RDR2 over Spidey IF I had to choose. Luckily, I don't....and there's plenty of time to play one after the other.

If you had asked me a couple of months ago I'd have said RDR2 first for sure but after seeing more of Spider-Man I'm super hyped for that as well, I'm just glad I don't have to choose between them and can get them both. Hell I was sold on Fallout 76 after E3 but I've kind of decided against that for now, doesn't look like it did to well in that poll either lol.

I read that Marvel gave Insomniac the choice of which superhero they wanted to do a game about, and Insomniac chose Spider-Man. I didn't realize that. I thought Sony and Marvel had decided to make a Spidey game, and they gave the project to Insomniac. Instead, it sounds like Insomniac themselves made the call about which superhero to make the game about. That's cool. It gives me more confidence in the game.

Here's an Insomniac rep talking about it:

"Marvel wanted to work with one of the big studios and specifically mentioned us. Sony said 'Hey are you guys interested in working with Marvel?' and we said 'Of course, but what character do they want us to do?' And they were like, 'Oh no, they want you to pick. You guys can have all the choice of which one you want.' It was like 'Oh wow. So huh, ok, that's an overwhelming decision,'" Stevenson recalls, laughing with the kind of childish glee someone has when they're given the keys to the candy store.

"Spider-Man was the easy choice ("the one that matched up very well with Insomniac and made most sense with the DNA of the games we've made, the types of games we make, the kinds of stories we tell, the character we felt closest to") and work began in earnest, with the teams looking at all manner of games and mechanics past and present as inspiration and to see what worked, and what fell flat."

About the poll results... I'm surprised and honestly a little skeptical. I wonder if maybe GI did a feature on Spider-Man, and then they took a poll of their audience. That might skew things. Another factor is that Spidey is closer, so it's getting a lot of marketing push, whereas Red Dead is simmering on the back burner. I guess I'm just finding it hard to believe that, overall, the average gamer is more excited about Spider-Man than RDR2. But maybe so. I did see another poll with 3000 people, supposedly by a guy who has a predominantly Xbox audience, and Spider-Man still came out ahead of RDR2.

Could this be the sleeper of the year? Have we had any this year?

I do believe Res Dead will overshadow Spidey but probably not along the lines GTV did to any other game upon its release month. Might easily be forgotten with whatever FPS people fancy afterwords.
