Spider-Man

It’s a great game, it deserves those scores. It’s not Batman Arkham great, but I would say it’s right behind those as the best superhero game.

I liked it better than the Arkham game I played to be honest, while both are good I think Spider-Man just feels better to play, it's not counter dependent like Batman, plus the city just feels more like a real city vs a cleared out city with only villains in it. It doesn't hurt that I can actually see all of Spider-Man's moves because there is no cape blocking half of what he does lol. I only played Arkham Knight so I can't say what the others are like and I did enjoy it a lot but I found Spider-Man to just be a more fun game.

Just finished! Gotta be one of the top 5 best ending sequences starting with the final boss. So good, and far better than we've had from Sony's movie division, lol.

Fantastic game. Had me riveted fro. Start to finish.'course, I had to get 100% completion!

Totally and I'll probably wind up getting the DLC if it's more story.

Been waiting for them to release NG+ to start a 3rd playthrough (though admittedly that's just to kill the time til RDR2 drops and I probably won't get the DLC on account of the aforementioned RDR2...)

I am dying so much, & to random crime encounters I am literally crying, & I never been bad in action games. Worst is, you can't retry to improve. They just disappeared.

I never felt so demoralized playing a game since Divinity 2, which is known to be hard. I wasn't expect to be kicked so bad. I particularly have issue with the bad dude.

I am not far from breaking my controller before posting this.

Edit:
Got better as I learn to isolate targets, as well as swing more using the R2-L2

Edit 2:
FK!!! I still fail most random Red alert (thug crime) missions & always the last thug, meaning I barely complete any!!!. It pretty embarrassing. Sigh. Should I slam my controller in anger?

Edit 3:
Controller still intact. Got a bit better, but the fat dude still a pain. Need to break now.

Use your dodge and move around a lot. You should be doing some kind of movement (be it jump over, launch, or dodge) after every 2 or 3 hits.

Using Y to zoom toward enemy is s good way to get out of dense groups. You have to fight like spiderman would. Use your gadgets too. Use you webs to tie up enemies so you can throw them, and don't be afraid to use your meter to heal youself- that's a big one.

Also different enemies require different approaches. You can't zoom punch the big guys unless they are webbed. Also use the under-the-legs dodge to get behind them.

You also can't effectively combo guys with melee weapons, so you have to launch them and beat em in the air.

Just remember that staying still is death. Be ready to dodge the moment your spider-sense goes off.

Thanks. I will try your tips.

Got better as I learn to dodge better & use the launch. The suit with the all-round web makes thug crimes missions quite easy.

I am about halfway through the game, & here are some of my impressions.

Steep learning curve, especially if you try to tackle those Fisk base early on. Once you level enough & get a better hang of the game, & more upgrades, it gets much easier.
The web swinging is pretty well done, & I have no major complaints.

Graphics is decent, so with framerates on my base PS4. While there ain't a lot of jaw-dropping moment, especially coming directly after Shadow of tomb raider, the recreation of New York is wonderful, especially at night. Makes me want to visit New York, & the many landmarks.

Combat is pretty good, & better than I expect, pity you can't do stealth a bit more. Upgrades are generally meaningful.

Additional of suits, & their associated suit power & mods does add a bit of RPG element, together with the skill tree. No complaints. Gadgets are well done & differ enough.

Main story. Decent so far, I heard the ending is good, I shall see.

Side missions, collectibles etc

Most side missions are pretty interesting, & I think Witcher 3 has set a standard for the industry & I can see the influence. The Research mission is a mixed bag for me. Some are okayish, while a few are pretty frustrating, especially those with timing.

A few times, I have to use another character like Mary Jane, but they are fine for me. Break the rhythm a little.

There is some mini puzzle & they are okayish.

Overall, I am liking it so far.

I am at about 79%. The pace and urgency started to peak, something shadow of tomb raider could learned.

I do have some criticism. The enemies seems seems pixel swapping . Many are same enemies with outfit change. There are a few unique types for each mob group, but by at large most of the enemies are Similar e.g the same fat dude, the rocket dude, the shield dude etc.

There are a lot of artificial time Extenders like those hideouts which just wave of enemies. You are obligated to do at least considerably of them as you need the special credits for upgrades.

I think spider-man has done these side objective better than most, especially the side misssions have sometime Witcher feel in that it’s multi layer. But I am not sure about repetitive ones like chasing birds and drones.

The main story has been very good so far, but I will write a separate comment on it once I am done.

The best thing so far about the game is making you feel very much like Spider-Man. Your web swing and agility will be put to sereve tests. Barely can you beat bosses, or even bad dudes by overpowering them, & you required a lot of moving swinging and timing. Stan Lee will be proud.

Haven’t played my PS4 in like two years. Got this the other day. I have this, Horizon, God of War, and Detroit waiting for me as well as all of the Yakuza games.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps Complete DLC Review – Surprisingly Essential

The City That Never Sleeps is a solid package of three great DLC episodes that set up exciting things for the series’ future.

Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps does exactly what fans of the games had been hoping it would do the moment they finished playing the base game- give us more of the excellent traversal, combat, writing, and storytelling that made Spider-Man itself one of the best games of the year. While its fragmented release as three separate episodes might have hurt its momentum in a few ways, taken as a whole, The City That Never Sleeps is a great extension of the first game’s story that sets up some exciting things for the inevitable sequel.

And that is perhaps the most surprising thing about this package- that the developments in narrative shown across in the three episodes are quite huge. Huger than you’d expect to see in DLC, in many cases. Some characters begin arcs that seem to be setting up major new strands for the sequel, some who had unfinished business left after the events of the base game come back and wrap up their arcs in satisfactory ways (while still leaving room to return in the future), while other narrative threads that were teased by Spider-Man as setup for the sequel also make exciting progress.

Sounds like must-have DLC, for anyone who enjoyed the main game. I need to get around to playing this.

I'm guessing I'm the only one here who didn't like this at all. Maybe I didn't give it enough time, but there wasn't anything to hold my interest more than a few hours. I only did 4 or 5 story missions and collected 10 or so backpacks and unscrambled 20 or so towers...nothing hooked me at all. Idk how many random crimes I stopped, but there just doesn't seem like much variety. This doesn't seem much different than Infamous to me.

It gets better as you get a little bit into the game, unlock stuff get more comfortable with the controls but if it hasn't grabbed you in 4 hours it probably won't. No game is for everyone.

Tried it again and not really interested in the game at all. It also causes me quite a bit of motion sickness. I already sold it on eBay for more than I paid for it, so no harm done.

Hmm... I'm beginning to think this wouldn't fit me.
I played the first infamous and that "first light" one, it just didn't click. It felt like I was just going through the motions, waiting for the games to start. I'm hoping this isn't the case for spidey, I mean, I really like open world games even if they have the standard unlock- the- map by climbing towers thing and the repetitive side quests didn't even bother me in AC Unity.

Infamous didn't click with me, either, but that's a different studio (Sucker Punch).

Spider-Man depth and creativity is in it combat. It rewards gamers who think/play outside the box.

I didn't think they were, but the games seem identical in a lot of ways.

Ok. Infamous fell flat for me for 3 reasons: I couldn't get into the main character or story, the combat didn't feel all that good (and that's about all there was to the game), and I didn't like being cooped up in a metropolitan environment. Spider-Man has that last feature -- it's set in a big, metropolitan environment -- which is one reason I haven't been drawn to playing it yet. But I expect the character, story, and combat will be more enjoyable than Infamous. I haven't played it yet, though, so who knows.

That is probably the main issue I had with this game. Too much combat for me and it seems like it was going to take too long to gain any interesting upgrades. I'm not really a comic book superhero fan anyway, so there wasn't much else for me to care about honestly. I'd probably care more for this game if it had been a launch title and if I had more time to spend on it. I don't have much time to spend on the games I actually do like these days.

It's MUCH better than Batman Arkham anything.
I don't know about "much" better, but very much on par. It's open Like Arkham City, but focused like Asylum. Excellent game any way you slice it, though...
