Official Thread Star Wars Battlefront 2

Tried the Star Wars BF 2 Beta. It’s fun and deeper than the first I like the Strike mode and forest map. Didn’t care for the Naboo map. Doesn’t hype me for a day 1 purchase though. I might get it for Christmas if any of my friends are playing or just wait for vault.

I'm definitely buying, but not at release.

I'd have done that anyway because I'm poor but the loot crate nonsense has put me off. Gonna spite the overlords with a used copy.

threw some screens in the pc screenshot thread. this game is nothing if not pretty.

Looks like they are going to be toning down chromatic aberration, film grain and lens distortion in the final game thankfully. Also there could possibly be a patch after the game launches to turn those things off completely.

Flying feels funky as s*** to me. Can not get a handle on it.

I couldn't at first but now I've got it down and like it a lot, hard to get used to using the left stick for both speed and rolling after the last game.

Thoughts on this..? I took this from a guy in Twitter but it seems to be true. Sucks if so.

“Battlefront II's card system does seem to be literally pay to win. More you pay, faster you can get more buffs, doesn't seem balanced. Ffs.

You level up classes via loot boxes rather than by.... playing them. Incentivising more payments. Preorder cancelled.”

More like "pay for a random chance at winning" which is a really disturbing trend.

The balance did seem off, but hard to tell. There was always "that guy" who power levels in a beta and has everything and was just wrecking everyone.

Still though I'm hoping it isn't too hard to level enough to be competitive. In the last one I never played enough to have a bunch of stuff but still managed to do fine.

^^Most games are going this route get over it.

Crashes and messed up HDR is what i been getting on the PC beta which reminds me of why i console game most.

I did just fine in Starfighter without unlocking a bunch of crates, hell I didn't even use any of my points towards them until last night. Being that they are going to be doing quite a bit of add on content for free there has to be some way to make extra money, this isn't a one and done single player campaign, it's a game with a heavy online component that is going to be supported for quite a while after launch. Would you guys rather have the option to unlock crates faster for money or have games go up in price?

The big problem with a game like Battlefront is I'm not going to play it like a hardcore "loot" game. I'm going to buy it and enjoy, but not play it like a grind game.

You probably don't need to, I didn't bother spending any points until last night and I did well in Starfighter assault, I ended up opening about 7 crates, plus we got a free daily crate on top of it. It took a while to unlock things in the first game too, there is still plenty of stuff I haven't unlocked in SWBF1. The stuff coming in the crates seems totally random and quite a bit of it is things like emotes which have no effect on gameplay. I don't think the things they add are particularly powerful anyway, an advantage yeah but one that everyone can get without spending the extra money if they don't want to.

If this game was doing loot crates and paid DLC I could see a reason to complain but we are going to get more maps and characters with no additional charge, I think this is a reasonable tradeoff if one needs to be made.

The fact of it is, they're putting gameplay modifying abilities and stat increases behind grinding and RNG.

Attachments, parts, and cosmetic items should be in those crates, not a chance at getting a 200% increase in damage resistance from the base level. This isn't cool. Stat upgrades shouldn't even exist at the level they're doing it at, and abilities themselves should have been, obviously, unlocked through levelling the class. As we know it now, there's no incentive to levelling at all.

No two ways about it for me. I'm still a slave to this franchise so I will get it, but this puts it on low priority. On sale or used only.

"The Beta Progression System is Different from the Full Game," possibly. all in the spoiler taken from the reddit thread, which details information taken from a supposed leak. Hero spoilers included because i couldn't seem to seperate them.

"The youtubers are judging the betas skewed progression system as the full game. They haven’t seen the kamino build leak where there are challenges that act as hutt bounties, individual crates for each class that eliminates the problem with not being able to focus on one class and many more tweaks. They started this massive circle jerk that will never go away even after launch. They started it without having all the details and I hate the state of this misinformed sub. I’m going post by post trying to spread this news. Wish me luck!

Sadly this pic of the latest respawn screen is my only proof to what I saw, I have the dark side hero spawn as well just give me a sec. There was a video of the crate system and I’ll break it down since it got removed. anyone who saw it as well, please vouch for me.

So to start off, there were more than 3 types of crates in the full game leak

StarFighter- random starfighter cards

Trooper- random trooper card, emote or weapon/part or mvp pose

Allegiance - random hero or trooper card, emote , weapon/weapon part

Assault - only assault cards, weapons mvp pose and parts

Heavy- only heavy cards, weapons mvp pose and parts

Officer- only officer cards, weapons mvp pose and parts

Specialist- only specialist cards, weapons mvp pose and parts.

These are the crates we are getting come launch. This gives us more choice as to what we want to focus on and level up.

There will also be a lot more challenges than what we saw in the beta. These challenges have more crates as rewards but will be more streamlined and guranteed like the “Starter crates” we saw from the beta. They will have basically everything from weapons, cards and weapon parts, to emotes, skins, and extra credits/scrap. There are still P2W elements in this game regardless of this news, but as you can see it’s not game breaking Pay to win, it’s just “Pay to Win faster”."

To corroborate his information, taken from a leak which featured near final hero selections.

This is a bit of a mess folks. It changes nothing about the overall system but if this information is true, it points towards a better leveling and progression experience. Albeit one still stuck in the overbearing "lootcrate" nonsense.

The problem of gameplay upgrades being tied to RNG is obviously still present. There remains much room for improvement on their part.

People hear "pay lootcrates" and instantly freak out. They are annoying, but in many games can be ignored.

I actually like some RNG to it. In games like Battlefield I never end up playing enough of certain classes to level them nearly enough to make them useful. For a game like this it might keep the servers more populated.

Game was a maybe sometime down the road to a big nope. Loot crates are fine if they are cosmetic or similar giveaways, but when they start dishing out weapon upgrades to minimize ranking up so you can get higher tier quicker than someone that plays it normally then no thanks. Not in a game that is 90% multiplayer.
