Star Wars: Rogue One *CONTAINS SPOILERS*

Continuing our family Star Wars geekdom I bought tickets to the 1st showing in our area for 7pm Thursday night. The energy and activities at the 1st showing just adds to excitement. Plus we dont have to worry about spoiler creeps.

Have tickets for the family and friends for Saturday afternoon. Can't wait. I think my son is more excited for this than for Santa.

Safe to say not much to spoil in this movie because we know what happens next lol. I know very little going in though just what I've seen on trailers.

Well we don't know who will die well apart from one character at least

Just got back from the 1st showing in our town. Surprisingly not a full house but close to it. I won't be posting spoilers here, not that there really are any huge bombshells, you know the story. If you are a SW geek then you will enjoy the many references to the main story and I felt it provided a satisfying bridge between III and IV. At the end the movie house gave the usual SW ovation (which they did for Phantom Menace too, just saying).

As more go to see it we can discuss it more here. Lots of good, some slow, one cringe-worthy line in particular but overall I think it falls squarely in the middle of the previous SW films which is probably the best it could have done regardless.

Ok, pretty damn good movie. I won't spoil it, but as I was watching it, I had a hard time processing everything that was going on. I was getting mixed signals being sent to my brain. It did not feel like a Star Wars movie....but it also felt like a Star "Wars" movie.
The mix signals had me feeling like I needed to time to fully take in what I saw. It truly was a huge departure from any of the standard Star Wars movies, but after taking it all in (that's what she said), after taking time to mentally process what I saw, I can come out of it saying that it was a pretty good movie.

I know exactly what you are saying Qbert. I think the best way to describe it is in the title itself, "A Star Wars Story". Plenty of references to the main movies and it fits in perfectly, but it is also very unique from them too. There is a surprising amount of depth added in 2 hours that overwhelms at first but provides plenty of ah-ha after you have time to digest.

Yeah, definitely overwhelming at first. It perfectly told a story set in the star wars universe, that is not directly part of the skywalker/Jedi/Sith storyline (not a spoiler, we all knew that already).
It's just that it's so hard to separate the Skywalker/Jedi/Sith storyline from "star wars" because, well, it's all that has been shoved down our throats since 1977. However, once you let this movie sink in, and get away from what we've been conditioned to love about Star Wars, you can appreciate the movie as a stand alone story.

I get what I'm feeling.....the original Star Wars movies were "epic" in story telling. It had giant monsters, robots, speeder bikes, love, hate, despair, hope, humor, character building, etc. It was a movie with so many colorful characters, jedis, siths, mandalorians, aliens, etc.

This movie, as a stand alone movie, was awesome for it's telling of a war story set in this grand star wars universe. The pacing was pretty good, the battle scenes were tremendous.

It's like comparing the Lord of the Rings epic 3 books to the Hobbit.

I'll be seeing it this weekend. Weather permitting. They don't know how much snow we're gonna get yet.

Snow....SNOW?????? It's gonna be 82 where I'm at. Send me some of that cool weather.

I enjoyed it, the first 70% of the movie was decent, but the last 30% was really good. One scene at the very end was incredible.

just got back from seeing it.

wow awesome movie - felt like a Starwars movie but with its own independence if u know what I mean. Some of the cgi character looked funky but had to be there to complete the movie

not as epic as the saga but holds it own.

8/10

Just back from it. It is hands down the best of the new Star Wars films. There was so many small moments that acknowledged the original movie. And the end was exactly what I was hoping for. Absolutely great.

Just got home. That end Vader part, dammmmnnn!!!

Enjoyed it very much!

Holy s*** that part at the end. I had my son with me (6 years old) and he jumped off the chair cheering when that light sabre lite up and showed him standing there. Me... I cried a little.

I didn't cry, but it was emotional. I felt the nose twitch. Stupid, I know.

It was good. Better than the old 6, but I prefer Force Awakens.

No clue why they had Mads Mikkelsen. They could have had a no name do his part because he was totally wasted.

So no spoiler tags needed?

Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. Had nice little easter eggs, and plenty of material to add to the lore. However...

Nearly all of the deaths of the main rebel crew seemed a bit pointless. They were just shot by random stormtroopers or blown up randomly. I suppose this story was a small highlight of one crew of rebels who fought and died, much like all of the other nameless rebels, but it just seemed a slight bit hollow by the end of it, as if we are now to just move on and cheer for Leia and Luke.

The Vader hallway scene was great and fits perfectly into character of the progression. But I did have one Vader line in the movie that made me roll my eyes...

"Don't choke on your ambition"

Ugh.

Yeah. That was a little corny but when I was thinking about it after he has lines like that in the original trilogy.

No disintegration when talking to boba fett
I find your lack of faith disturbing when in the meeting room. And I'm sure there are a few others.

It was kind of corny though.

I was ok with it, he was sort of corny in the original, but it was a touch more here. The delivery wasn't good too.
