Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I don't mind admitting that seeing Carrie Fisher in the trailer got to me a bit, growing up in the 70's and 80's Star Wars was a huge part of my childhood and the original cast has a special place in my heart. The scene in the trailer is just WOW but seeing her face at all reminds me it's the last time I'll see her in a movie and that bums me out a bit.

I must have watched the trailer about 5 times last night. The cinematography... wow, this is some of the best ever, for a Star Wars movie!
Will not watch!

I’m curious how much is revealed in the trailer or any major spoilers? If so I don’t want to watch it.... but damn it I want to watch it!
You guy's are seriously missing out, for not watching. That's such a weird thing to do. The trailer is full of some obvious misdirection. Even the order of events is clearly out of step.

Mainly, you are missing out because trailers are an art form of their own, and this one's finely crafted.

Edit: nevermind lowdru2k. I saw that you caved..

I used to really love trailers. Then a movie got spoiled. I watch them after I see the movie now.

I'm still not sold on the gorilla walkers.

I like them, they seem like an evolution of the older models. With the red "eye" areas on a lot of their vehicles the first order stuff has sort of a cylon look and that doesn't bother me one bit.

Watch on 1080p and watch Chewbacca just before the Porg.

I swear you can see Peter Mayhew's mouth inside Chewbacca's mouth.

Surely it's all cgi now? But having re watched it somethings wrong with that shot

The next 12 weeks are going to be dope.

Stranger Things Season Two this week.
Thor: Ragnarok the week after.
Justice League and The Punisher mid Nov.
End the year with Episode VIII

Recently watched The Force Awakens again, honestly I like it better now than I did when I first saw it and I enjoyed it then. I think it gets a bit too much crap from some people.

I just can't get into the new movies. The first one sucked so god damn bad. The fact Ray could fly the falcon as good as Han so god damn easy pissed me off and the fact she went toe to toe with a god damn Skywalker who was trained by Luke was BS. That last fight with whatever his name was should have been like a horror movie it should have been she was just running as if f***ing Jason was after her ass.

I mean I need some damn growth in a character to like them. Luke and the gang had that so they were great. I mean God help them if they dare make a woman look weak in any way. Also, the black guy forgot his name just outright forking sucked. I've yet to see the other one they made.

I understand what you are saying and I see where you are coming from. Personally I loved it. But I loved it for the wrong reasons. I loved it for Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Chewie, R2, C3PO, the Falcon and EVERYTHING that tied back to the the original series back in the 70s and 80s. I can say however, if Hamill, Ford and Fisher were absent from that last movie, I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much as I did.

When they were shown on the screen, I literally had goosebumps and awesome memories filled my mind from childhood.

The last trailer pretty much confirmed why Rey was able to survive the fight with Ren. Its a trilogy so you have to expect some things to be explained later.

They actually explain why she can beat him in the movie novelization, dono how to do a spoiler/hide-text on my phone, so I won't type it here. But you can notice as to why in the movie, just the novel kinda spells it out for you.

The way they forced the Millenium Falcon in was lame, but guess what? If the ship wasn't in the show, everyone would be asking where it was and what happened to it.

I didn't have a problem with Rey beating Kylo. Kylo was shot in the chest my Chewie just before. Plus based on the new trailer it is obvious she's supposed to be really powerful.

Plus I always got the feeling that Kylo Ren was not supposed to necessarily be super powerful. He seems more like a Vader wannabe for lack of a better term.

Pulled from the interwebz:
I think entirely too much is being made of this. What does Rey do?

  • Resist Kylo Ren's mind reading.
  • Use the mind trick on a stormtrooper after failing to a couple of times.
  • Just about hold off Ren in a lightsaber duel (seriously she's in retreat the whole time).
  • Partially Force pull a lightsaber.
  • Manage to "let the Force flow through her" long enough to beat an injured, distracted Ren.
That's it. From this we can conclude she's naturally attuned to the Force and has some raw talent that needs training.

Compare to Luke who – before he meets Yoda and with only a vanishingly brief time spent with Obi-Wan – can:

  • Fight blindfolded against a remote after a couple of false starts.
  • Hop in a military starfighter and immediately out-fly veteran pilots having only flown the equivalent of a crop-duster before.
  • Instinctively evade attack well enough that Vader notices how Force attuned he is.
  • Hit an "impossible" target without a targeting computer by reaching out with his feelings.
  • Force pull a lightsaber to himself in the wampa cave.
  • Commune with a Force spirit.
Sorry. I don't get the argument that Rey is overpowered or gets her powers for free. She scrapes a win against Ren. Rey has learned to fight during her tough upbringing but can't bring much to a fight with a well trained adversary. She's clearly got a lot to learn. She spends most of the fight in retreat and is only able to win because Kylo Ren is badly injured and holding back at least a little in the hopes of turning her. Also as Shava Nerad points out he is a formally trained fighter but not necessarily battle hardened and dismisses Rey as a worthy opponent.

A 9 year old Anakin can win a pod race, take out a droid command ship (by accident) and whatever else he did in that terrible movie I've blocked from my memory. Edit: I just re-watched The Phantom Menace and Anakin appears to use the Force to pull his pod back together mid-race!

I can't help feeling the elephant in the room in this discussion is that there are people who have a problem with the hero of the movie being female.
