Even reading the comments, this has me confused. "Early Access" is a Steam term, isn't it? Similar to Game Preview on Xbox? I assume he means that the SoD2 file has been made available for those who bought the Ultimate Edition to download so that they can have the file ready for their 4 day early access to playing the game, which is May 18.

Seems pretty straight foward to me.

What is confusing is the 'day 1 game pass' comment. Technically the 18th is day 1 but game pass gets it on 22nd.

so if it was straight forward to you, did I get that right?

I want to play this, but I'm going to wait until reviews are in and feedback from you all.

I have this pre ordered, kind of wish I had held off until reviews but oh well.

State Of Decay 2 Still Feels Rough, Despite Some Promising Ideas

Unfortunately, on the basis of a three-hour preview demo, State of Decay 2 suffers from many of the same issues as its predecessor: It still feels a little aimless, and it's still never really clear what direction the game wants you to go in, since every direction is so punishing to traverse; the loop of exploration and defense soon begins to feel tired; and a multitude of bugs and some poor presentation make it feel unfinished. Which, of course, it is. Many of these issues could therefore be fixed by the time State of Decay 2 launches on May 22. But they've persisted since the original came out in 2013, and that's a worrying sign.

Again, I like the idea of State of Decay 2's co-op, but in practice it is not realized well. Only the host can select quests, for example, and it's not totally clear who the host is. Worse than this, you can only travel a short distance away from the host before the game pulls you back to your friend's approximate vicinity. Why can't our team of four split into two pairs to approach a target from opposite directions, or go off to accomplish separate objectives? You're forced to stick together, which makes it even more frustrating when you receive a notification to say your base is under attack--why can't one of our squad remain at home to defend us from opportunistic zombie hordes?
Even the game's main strengths--its core systems of character progression and resource management--aren't the accomplishments they should be. On one occasion, I went to the aid of a rival settlement, led by a man named Magic Mark, who had turned to us in their time of need. Despite our groups' past disagreements, Mark asked if I could urgently help them find food. I agreed, but the game refused to let me take any of his group with me on my quest, so they all just stayed put, standing around doing nothing in their garage base (which, incidentally, looked like every other garage I saw in State of Decay 2). I then decided to steal the group's belongings from right in front of them, but they didn't care one bit. Don't mind me guys, I know I said I'd bring you food but actually I just wanted your shotgun pellets--I'll be out of your hair any minute, alright?

s***ty way to do co-op.

I am still excited though. Played the first game tonnes despite its many many flaws.

They do coop like that when there are no servers involved in hosting the game. The hosts instance provides the game and so they tether other players to the host to save on limited game resources.

And yeah it’s a s***ty way to do it. Especially since MS could let them use Azure.

I tried signing up for the beta numerous times for Xbox this morning but kept getting the PC page. Now they're saying the beta is full for Xbox. That's a load of bs.

I would love to see an amazing game near release with Sony named as the publisher -- watch the reaction of the gaming community and journalists as the gush over how awesome the game looks, etc..

Then, people would find out that Microsoft is actually publishing the game. And watch the response change. THAT would be fuking awesome !

Sounds like the game still has a lot of technical issues on the One X, hopefully they get it sorted before launch.

One thing that's not in the video (oops it is) but has been mentioned before is having to pay attention to fuel in cars, that just seems like going too far IMO, the game is still supposed to be fun and that kind of thing just seems like a bit much considering how much you have to pay attention to inventory management etc already.

I read some of these beta reviews and they seem to forget this is a $29 indie title. They seem like they are expecting no tether, God of War graphics and so much more.

Yet what they are saying is that it is State of Decay 1 with more worlds, better graphics, co-op, humans, improved performance.

Sounds good to me.

The tether co op piece is lame. And its not really an indie game is it? MS bought them years ago.

Yup it is lame, but it's been fine with FarCry 5. It's better than no co-op.

For $29 it looks great.

Depends how far you can go from each other. In Fable 3 co-op wasn't a good thing in the end because you can barely separate. Haven'#t played FC 5 but that seems like a game where they have to let you split up by a good distance to maximise what the game is about. So I am hoping for the latter here with SOD2.

Getting tiresome to see MSoft studios put out unpolished games. First SOT and possibly this one.

The Internet is for drama queens. All this concern trolling is getting SUPER old! There are far bigger games with the same issues and then some - nobody says a word.

Tech issues come up on the X, suddenly every issue blooms... Lol

No worse than your ignorant, bulls*** "nothing wrong ever" replies.
