The 2018/2019 NBA Season Thread...

So a team with 2 Hall of Famers beat a team without its two best players in 7 games and that makes him the GOAT

But you are right Jordan didn't do that because Jordan didn't lose in the Finals. So you got me there.

Imagine believing not being able to reach the Finals was better than losing in the Finals...

Also, how did the Heat do when LeBron left?

Remember now, just being competitive means you're great. Not actually winning, but being competitive. Since we're on that line of thinking, Allen Iverson is the most superior basketball player of all-time. That team, was the absolute worst team to ever make it to the finals. Iverson>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lebron.

No Iverson won a game so that rules him out

Well you are putting a lot of importance on that 7 game series win against Boston last year. We both know nobody in the East last year had a shot at the title.

The f***ing Pacers pushed LBJ to 7 games last year. Last season's Pacers, incidentally, were as average as the day is long. The Pacers team that pushed Jordan's Bulls to 7 in his return and got screwed over by a phantom foul on Travis Best for standing in the same time zone as Jordan when he drove to the basket would have plowed through LBJ's Cavs like week-old butter.

Not to minimize the point, but the Pacers had a damn solid team the year before and only managed to win two games against those Lakers (although a third almost happened had Big Shot Bob got a deflection on Reggie's OT game-winning 3 attempt). I think the real star of that era of basketball was Austin Croshere, though, let's be honest.

The Bulls blew up the roster in 1999. Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, and Luc Longly left that year. I would have loved to see how Jordan performed on that roster but for whatever reason, he decided not to.

The reason I bring up the Heat and Cavs is because those rosters were largely the same when LeBron left. The first Cavs roster got blown up which is why I didn't include their post LeBron record. We can assume they would be garbage though considering Moving Williams was their second best player.

Markell Fultz was the consensus best college basketball player 18 months ago. He couldn't play his crappy team into the tournament.

Go apply for a job with the Houston Rockets and tell them you know the secret to evaluating player talent.

Also to note: The 76ers put an elite defensive team around Iverson.

The Cavs currently have the worst defensive rating in the league and the 25th ranked offense. Last year's Cavaliers team was significantly worse than Iverson's 76ers.

The record after a player leaves matters until it doesn't support my argument

1 Hall of Famer=Easy mode. 3 Hall of Famers=Hard work

Winning titles? Big whoop. Losing in the Finals? OMGWTFBBQ.

Winning titles? Still no big deal. Beating the Celtics without their best players? Greatest accomplishment in the history of mankind.

Utah Jazz dynasty - 2 titles (almost)

He keeps grasping to that records argument. It’s all he’s got.

Point being that if LeBron was the true GOAT then Miami would have won every finals. I can understand GSW being in his way back in Cleveland.

The records argument.
The better passer argument.
The better rebounder argument.
The better true shooting percentage argument.
The better defender argument.
The better 2pt shooter argument.
The better 3pt shooter argument.
The size, speed, strength argument.
The more points argument.
The more rebounds argument.
The more assists argument.
The Daryle Morey argument.
The better competition argument.
The anti romanticism argument.
The 2016 Finals argument.
The 2018/19 Cavaliers argument.
The he's not done argument.
The Jordan needed 3 college years argument.

If Jordan was the true GOAT he would have carried his teams before Scottie Pippen showed up and saved the day.

If the last two pages have taught us anything it's that Jordan Stan's only have a "Rings" argument to fall on. An argument that holds no weight when evaluating player talent.

Last night Daryl Morey said an argument could be made for James Harden as the greatest scorer ever. I’m not sure how much credence I would put in his opinions of the greatest ever.

That's a really benign opinion to have. His true shooting percentage and usage rates have been off the charts for years. He's absolutely in the conversation as all time great offensive players. Just needs to do it a few more years IMO.

Harden is a damn good regular season player, but he disappears in the big Playoff games. He being considered the greatest scorer ever is laughable.

An argument could be made that Scarlett Johansson is going to trip over a fossillized shamrock while doing a pirouette and land face down on my lap and figure, what the heck, while I'm here, let's get at it.

You’re saying that right now you can make a case for James Harden as the greatest scorer ever and he deserves to be in the conversation?

I think you could make a case that his last 4 regular seasons (3.5) stack up there with anybody offensively. I think if you can do that the notion that he's the most talented scorer of all time is on the table.

Personally I'd like to see him do it for a couple more years though. I like 6 prime years better than 4 prime years.

Does the NBA not exist for you before 2000?

Your opinions on the NBA are of a person that did not watch or follow the NBA beyond the last 18 years. I see now why you think LeBron and Fortnite are GOAT.

Give me some names who have had 4 consecutive scoring (regular) seasons on par with Harden. Should be easy for you since you've watched so much basketball.
