(CNN)A man shot himself in the head in front of the White House at just before noon Saturday, a Secret Service spokesperson has told CNN.

"Secret Service personnel are responding to reports of a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound along the north fence line of @WhiteHouse," the Secret Service tweeted as the incident unfolded.
The man approached the fence line, removed a concealed handgun and fired several rounds, none of which appear to have been aimed at the White House, a Secret Service spokesperson said.
A law enforcement source told CNN the shooter shot his phone before shooting himself. No suicide note was found, but incoherent sentences were found in a book recovered on the scene, the source said.


The man has since died; no one else was injured in the incident, the Secret Service spokesperson said.
The victim suffered a single gunshot wound, and Secret Service personnel did not fire any shots, Secret Service spokeswoman Cathy Milhoan said.
President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, at the time and are scheduled to return to Washington on Saturday afternoon for the annual Gridiron Club Dinner.
"We are aware of the incident," deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said. "The President has been briefed. I refer you to the Secret Service for any more information."
The Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department is taking the lead in the investigation, the Secret Service spokesperson said. Law enforcement authorities have identified the victim but are withholding the man's name pending notification of his family, the spokesperson said.
The Secret Service also tweeted that pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the White House was affected by the incident.
Law enforcement personnel spent about four hours Saturday afternoon searching a maroon Honda Accord with an Alabama license plate parked on the street near the Capital Hilton hotel, a few blocks from the White House. After officers blocked off the area, a bomb squad swept the car, and law enforcement personnel removed several items from it, including what looked like pictures and documents from a cigar box, before towing the car away. A Secret Service source confirmed to CNN that the suspect's car was located in the area where the search of the vehicle took place.

Russia says it stopped Mitt Romney from becoming secretary of State: report

Russia says it stopped former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney from becoming President Trump's secretary of State, according to The New Yorker.

The magazine in a report about former Christopher Steele says the former British spy authored a separate dossier with "a senior Russian official" as its source. That source said individuals inside Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed to have stopped Romney from becoming head of the State Department.

Steele's memo said Russia used "unspecified channels" to request that Trump choose a secretary of State who would remove "Ukraine-related sanctions," according to the report. The Kremlin also reportedly wanted the department's head to accommodate Russia in regards to Syria, where the Russian government has been backing President Bashar al-Assad in a years-long civil war.​

Trump’s tariffs are based on Section 232 of a 1962 U.S. law that allows safeguards based on“national security”.

Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford used Section 232 tariffs to tax foreign oil in 1971 and 1975, according to a study by law firm White & Case LLC. Section 232 has not been used since the WTO was created in 1995, although the U.S. government considered and rejected such action in 1999 and 2001.

The WTO allows a national security exemption from its rules, but it has never been used as a defense in a trade dispute. It could arise in a current row between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, but that dispute is effectively in limbo unless Qatar actively pushes ahead with the case.

And this exchange happened after Tur asked whether Nunberg thought Mueller & Co. had anything on the president:

Nunberg: I think they may. I think he may have done something during the election but I don’t know that for sure.

Tur: Why do you think that?

Nunberg: I can’t explain that unless you were in there.

Tur: Explain the atmosphere.

Nunberg: The way they asked questions about anything I heard after I was fired from the campaign to the general election to even Nov. 1, it insinuated to me that he may have done something.

Jake Tapper interview with former 45 aide Sam Nunberg. Dude is unhinged, he got a subpoena and it seems like he's scared. Either he knows something he doesn't want to or he could be implicated too, thats how he's coming across to me.

During the interview he calls 45 an idiot and says he thinks Mueller has something on 45. Its about 15 minutes long.





He said he wouldn't cooperate and won't show up to the subpeona but later after he calmed down looks like he's coming to his senses.

 
I truly wonder if the results of the Mueller investigation will change anything. Even if there is a smoking gun with Trump, to impeach him the democrats in the House would need 24-25 Republicans to vote to impeach along with them. And in the Senate, the democrats would need nearly 20 Republicans to vote for impeachment. Honestly even with damning proof of guilt and collusion, I don't see that many Republicans crossing the aisle on an issue like this and putting country before party.

I think the Republicans will probably get him to resign due to illness if Mueller has damning evidence of criminal offenses more than collusion. Collusion by itself won't get the republicans to move but if there is some really bad stuff found and they don't impeach then they may take a hit so they end up in a damned if they do or don't situation. 45 resigning due to illness is the only way they can all save face. Plus he's making impossible to govern so they probably want Pence as president badly right now and 45 is only getting crazier.

Also, don't say "tariff", call it what it is - an import tax.

Vicki Swain It was the Dumocrats plan...look at the Clinton Killing Machine. Cover up, and take the attention off of their stuff, take down the NRA, and cause problems for Trump. Backfired...
