Well this is interesting.

Revealed: Trump team hired spy firm for ‘dirty ops’ on Iran arms deal

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...am-hired-spy-firm-dirty-ops-iran-nuclear-deal

This s*** is really concerning. We have a war monger in Bolton, at least one religious zealot in Pompeo who wants to bring about the rapture and is in a cabinet position, another who is a big Trump donor who wants to bring about the rapture - Alderson something i think - in Trumps ear. And even if Trump is removed from office we have another religious zealot in Pence.

They want to start a war with Iran, I hope the american people don't fall for this again.

I think we're f***ed.

1100 economists are warning that Trump is repeating the same mistakes that lead up to the great depression.

http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-tariffs-trade-war-great-depression-mistake-2018-5

"
"Congress did not take economists' advice in 1930, and Americans across the country paid the price," the letter says. "The undersigned economists and teachers of economics strongly urge you not to repeat that mistake. Much has changed since 1930 — for example, trade is now significantly more important to our economy — but the fundamental economic principles as explained at the time have not."

The Smoot-Hawley tariffs, much like Trump's measures, were designed as protection for US industries. But they ended up making the situation worse.

Included on the new letter are 14 Nobel laureates and economists from across the political spectrum, including former chairs of the Council of Economic Advisers under Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.

The letter also quotes the warnings from the 1930 letter, which warns that tariffs raise prices on consumers, damage industries that rely on trade directly or indirectly, hurt the fortunes of American farmers, and lead to retaliatory measures from other countries.
"

Of course their economic policies are absurd. Tax cuts for the rich without spending cuts? Where else is that going to land other than more deficit? Tariffs? Tariffs = tax on stuff we all buy.

This isn't even "politics". This crap simply isn't going to work. That's just a fact.

This is what kills me - Trump and the Republicans are terrible for the economy.

Surprise, surprise. GOP talking about the tax cuts a lot less now.

We need to make sure we don't let them label them as "Trump's" cuts. This plan was as much the GOP as Trump.

And supposedly tomorrow the WH will ask to cut out billions in federal spending now that tax cuts have increased debt and reduced federal tax collections. I expect the same people who supported tax cuts for the wealthy will push reducing federal programs for the less fortunate. I expect that messaging to get louder come November elections.

Yeah, but the GOP gonna GOP. They're only going to be able to do it via recissions, which can get through with a majority vote without filibuster potential, but it can only be used for money from past budgets that was never actually spent. Basically, it's "Here, see, we care about the debt! We increased it by trillions, but we're going to cut twelve billion that was never actually spent anyway."

I would say come midterms the Democrats should limit any talk about the investigations and focus strongly on the tax cuts and corruption of this administration. There should be plenty there that any one that either jumped the aisle or sat on the sidelines should have an interest in getting out and voting.

An interesting read on the war on facts, polarization and populism

At the same time as scientific claims to knowledge and power are being undermined, some power structures are decoupling themselves from scientific knowledge, moving towards a kind of populist politics that are increasingly skeptical of knowledge. This has, in recent years, manifested itself in extreme ways—through such things as public politicians showing support for Pizzagate or Trump’s suggestions that Ted Cruz’s father shot JFK.

But this can also be seen in more subtle and insidious form in the way in which Brexit, for example, was campaigned for in terms of gut feelings and emotions rather than expert statistics and predictions. Science is increasingly facing problems with its ability to communicate ideas publicly, a problem that politicians, and flat-Earthers, are able to circumvent with moves towards populism.

I also heard an idea that the West is becoming Left-Brain dominate in our ways of thinking.

Iain McGilchrist says the the Right-Brain is much better at 'The Big Picture' or understanding context while the Left-Brain has a very narrow focus and better for using tools or technical work. I think the Right-Brain also relies on the Left-Brain to articulate speech.

The reason this comes to mind is the Left-Brain would also much prefer to look at the world as a flat map including cities as dots or stars or icons. Almost like an old 2D game world map in a way. What is missing in that picture is context or things like local culture. It might make one wonder why we blunder so horribly thinking locals will rush to thank us after we invade their country to liberate them.

This just made me think Flat Earth itself is a very literal result of this extremely skewed way of thinking.

This should clip is a very abbreviated rundown on his ideas; there are much better but longer ones.

People choose to live in ignorance in the modern world. It may be conscious or subconscious, but they choose ignorance.

I have sometimes wondered if there are evolutionary advantages to a part of a group or tribe that is crazy.

What if a people are so nuts or willfully obtuse, other groups that might otherwise dominate them instead avoid them?

I usually think of religious cults this way, but conspiracy theories are also belief systems where participants gather to tell their stories.

The article mentions it is more about gut feelings and emotions rather than hard facts. People have fear and hatred of people different than them, so they accept Trump's words and don't question the facts.

Plus, in today's world of information you can find a single example of something happening that to them "proves" something is true. Find one story about an illegal immigrant killing someone in the US and that "verifies" their beliefs. Most of us can see through this, but if you already have the emotions of fear and hate, it grabs hold. There's also stories of immigrants who serve in the military or are firemen too but those facts get filtered out.

All this stuff was known about Trump. Heck, if you watch Golden Girls re-runs from the 90s they were making fun of Trump way back then.

The guy has been in the spotlight for as long as I can remember.

People who voted for him didn't care.

I thought he was questionable or kind of a joke.

Just a very minimal amount of digging showed he was even worse. Cozy relationships with the mob disturbed me as well as attempts to seize property with Eminent Domain.

It's also amazing to me how he got in when Romney was dragged down with the 'Vulture Capitalist' label.

That's the weird thing about Trump. Politicians who run for office usually try to be as squeaky clean as possible. That's why one little thing gets magnified. One little mis-step and people are done. Howard Dean yelled a little too loud in a mic and his campaign fell apart. John Kerry changed his mind on one thing and got labeled a flip-flopper.

Then Trump came along who was already the lowest of the low. A reality TV star semi-successful businessman. Known womanizer (just listen to his Howard Stern interviews). People didn't know how to handle it. Instead of nitpicking one or two things, he had a bazillion faults.

He was in a weird way the "perfect" candidate because what dirt could anyone dig up on him? He said rude things about women? Of course he did, he's been doing that for decades.
