Reviews are in, tracking 83 on Metacritic right now. There seems to be a consensus that the story is moving and wonderful while the controls and camera are awful at times. You would think with this much time to work on it that technical issues shouldn't be coming up like this.
My copy already shipped so I am in regardless. Would have been nice for them to toss in a remastered Ico and Shadow of the Colossus as a gesture for the wait. Oh well, I'm ready for my 12 hours of Ico #3.
Digital Foundry Verdict: Get a PS Pro, and play the game in 1080p mode. PS4 and PS Pro in 4K mode performance drops.
I want it. Huge Ico/Colossus fan. But I'll probably wait for the first price drop.
They said that the major frame drops on the 4K were on the water levels, likely because the extra resolution of the reflections. Honestly, it stays pretty close in most of their 4K samples. I think that if I had a 4K set, I'd probably just leave my settings to that. Too bad they didn't design the game with higher res textures, as that seems to be the only major gripe with the game. I can understand though, as it WAS originally intended to be a PS3 game.Interesting that pro runs the game usually smoother at 4k than the standard ps4 does at 1080p. Lol.
I thought DF said it was 1800. They posted a way to run it in downsampled 1080p mode for better performance. Apparently it picks hi res mode for you automatically if you have a 4k set. You have to trick it to run 1080.Interesting that pro runs the game usually smoother at 4k than the standard ps4 does at 1080p. Lol.
Could be heavy apha use that comes with waterfalls/spray. I image the cpu bottleneck would be the culprit, perhaps. They said that the major frame drops on the 4K were on the water levels, likely because the extra resolution of the reflections. I'm struggling pretty bad with the camera and getting annoyed with the unnecessary crap popping up telling me how to jump, hang, etc. It's like controlling a remote camera online using dialup or something. I have no idea why they decided there needs to be a massive input delay to control the camera.
Loving the short amount of time I have spent with the game so far on my PS Pro...
Yup!Such a beautiful game. Worth the wait from what i've heard. A great piece of art is timeless.
Well, I have the pro set up to 4K all the time. I have not gone in and changed any settings as for as the Pro itself goes. Now for TLG, I haven't looked in the options to see if there are any visual settings, so I am running it at the default. What mode are you playing on pro?
TLG automatically picks its mode based on your tv. If you want to run super sampled 1080 version with better performance, you have to change the Pro's output to 1080p in settings before starting the game. Apparently 1080p mode uses the TVs upscaler to fill a 4k screen, so if you want the better hardware scaler you can switch the Ps4 Pro's output back to 4k after you are running the game (supposedly the game doesn't check your output after you start playing).Well, I have the pro set up to 4K all the time.
