Started it this morning. Don't want to say to much to spoil anything.

It's like Bioshock and a Starbreeze game mated with a more solid feel. The Music and atmosphere are fantastic. Also seems likes its going to be a little hard.

Ive only played 20 minutes of it but I'm liking the look and feel of the game. I actually jumped at a few parts(damn mimics).

yeah, honestly for the the first 10 minutes, I wasn't that impressed, particularly in the graphics. It had that not-so-realistic, sterile look about it that just didn't wow me. Character models are nice and the voice-mapping is very good, but not reaching the bar set by some of the new AAA games. However, after a somewhat lackluster opening and the veil being lifted on what's really going on, the game floored me. The attention to detail more than make up for any minor graphical shortcomings.

This game is actually challenging. Some of the enemies can put you down in a hurry if you're not careful.

Yeah- I feel super powerless right now. When I pick it back up later on this afternoon I'm going to change tactics from last night. I'm going to think my way around fights because as of now I'm getting my ass kicked.

When do you stumble across actual guns? I have ammo but no way to use it. I'm tired of running and hiding also.

I've found them pretty early. I think once you leave the testing facility and enter the main foyer on Talos 1 you should start seeing some weapons.

Im glad i preordered a few hours before release else i don't know where i'd be without the shotgun. I've found a few pistols and gloo guns but no other shotguns, and i just found the q-beam a little bit ago.

i like to carry turrets with me when i open a new door. :)

Sorry, Mr. Glooey McGlooface but i needed those materials. :)

Good call- I didn't preorder but purchased a day 1 copy so I have the bonus. I'm going to download it. Just added combat focus neuromod to get through a tough spot with glue gun and wrench. That looks superpowerful offhand. I took out one of those reapers pretty easily when before I was dying for a half hour on limited heath, inventory, and weapons.

Comments and the review are causing me to give this a second look. I've liked Arkane's work since way back to Arx Fatalis, but I'd crossed Prey off my list because of 4 things:

1. The combat I saw in a trailer looked underwhelming. There were these ephemeral, ghost-like enemies, and when you shot them, it didn't seem to have much "oomph" or impact. It didn't seem like the shooting would feel satisfying.

2. The enemies didn't seem to be very interesting. "Scary ghosts, oooh." You know what I mean? Is there more enemy variety than apparitions?

3. The environment seemed like it might feel too sterile and mechanical. In the trailer I saw, it was all metal corridors. Is there color and nature, or is that pretty much it -- indoor, mechanical, sterile, metal? Any beauty, so to speak?

4. In the trailer I saw, the only other people you came across were dead. Is it like Bioshock, where you're listening to audiologs as the main way of interacting?

Any comments on those aspects? Thanks.

Q beam is a badass gun. Unfortunately I used up my ammo.

Well I'm going to download the preorder bonus and hopefully that shotgun gets me past GUTS. Wrench and glue glun to this point all the way up to this point. I like the game but if I have to go back and use a fan guide to get me back on track then that's a huge fail.

Prey is one awesome game. I already loved the demo and couldn't wait to see what was next, was only waiting for a few reviews to tell me that not only the first hour was great and then I would buy it. Which sure isn't the case, plenty of great stuff here.

Elements of Bioshock, System Shock, Dead Space, hell it even has platforming thanks to a certain weapon. The atmosphere is fantastic and man they nailed the zero gravity. And those mimics can be a pain in the ass but at the same time I really like them as enemies and manage to scare the s*** out of me when I least expect it.

But this game also rewards exploration and I love to explore in most games. And I didn't even mention the recycler and fabricator, it's all great stuff here. Could there be better enemy variety here? Sure, but so far it hasn't bothered me. There's something awesome about walking into a room, seeing a handgun on the ground and when I get near it a Mimic jumps out, haha.

Arkane did it again!

Everything that isn't fighting enemies is good. The enemies and combat is awful. So, it's ok.

hmmm, I personally find the combat rewarding and fun. It's NOT a shoot-em-up game, however, so those thinking balls-to-the-wall FPS action should stay away.

There's an ephemeral quality to these aliens, yes, but they ARE aliens. I think. :) And there is definitely a feeling of physical contact when you hit/shoot them.

These aren't ghosts, at least from the little bit of the story that I've gathered so far. And yes, there are other enemies of a more "physical" nature.

I haven't seen enough of the ship to say, but it's a space station. Uh, sterile and mechanical sounds about right. There is plenty of "color" and variety within these walls, however, and the attention to detail is just amazing, in my opinion. And some really funny stuff along the way, too. For a comparison, I would say that if you felt Bioshock was varied enough for you, they you should have no problem or a reason to complain. Much of the environment is similar to that, except with Prey you are not limited to a linear path, and there is so much more to see.
4. In the trailer I saw, the only other people you came across were dead. Is it like Bioshock, where you're listening to audiologs as the main way of interacting?
Yes there are some audiologs like Bioshock that are used in the storytelling, but also emails like Deus Ex, video messages, sticky notes and even notes on chalk boards/walls. And without divulging too much of the story, there's another presence that is helping lead you and keep your character up to date. It's important to stress that Prey is a pretty cerebral affair, with a deep underbelly of a story that requires you to pay attention. If you don't enjoy divesting your time into learning that story's intricacies, YMMV, and I don't know if you'd like this.

Many rewards if you explore which I highly recommend because this game is a bitch later on. I say later on but I'm only a little over 3 hours in it. Read the emails, post- it notes, and watch files on computers. It opens so much more of the game.

I find the combat satisfying. I like the different options you have while tackling enemies.
Just this morning I experienced a jump scare that made my wife scream next to me which didn't help. I won't say where it happened at.

On a side note, the crossbow that shoots nerf arrows is very useful. That's all I'll say.

I think combat is janky but i don't have much of a arsenal. This space station has dead bodies everywhere but no one is armed. Since this is case, unless the free shotgun comes through from the preorder, my upgrade path is going to full on Alien to defend myself. Overall it's super good. Played a good 6-8 hours yesterday. A few on Friday and a few more here in a little bit. The game has hooks for sure.

15 hours in and i finally found a shotgun apart from the pre-order bonus. Mind you i'm taking my time and exploring quite a bit. the space station is pretty big.

I'm exploring every nook and cranny wary of toilet paper sitting on the floor. Looking silly hitting it with my wrench. And I'm enjoying that.

Yes, you will now forever be giving your coffee/tea mug side-eye.

Did you check the locker in your office?

I did not. I'm so f***ed where I'm at right now. I finally found a gun and that thing doesn't appear to do s***. I'm literally in a corner room with the bombed out window covered with glue do they can't get in and about 4 reapers staking around.

Did you check the locker in your office?

I didn't notice that locker until about the third time I went back to his office. I had found the one in the Security Office though, had started to upgrade it but I had to keep the shiny new one instead!

Anyway add me to the voices saying this is a great game. After I had bought it I was on Facebook and there was an Xbox Magazine post about it and all the comments were talking about was how it looked and it was crap and they were glad they had just tried the demo. I agree it's not the best looking game but I'm having a blast playing it. Vibes I get from it are Bioshock, Dead Space, Dishonored and F.E.A.R. and a lot of RPG elements with all the upgrades and skill trees. Dead Space had some anti gravity sections but nothing like this. And I've jumped more than a few times. Feel it's pretty hard at times and I'm playing on Normal. I like the recycling and making what you need.

Yes, yes they did. It's actually a great addition to the core of the game, rather than some ho-hum tacked-on gimmick.

What a refreshing game this is, with its layered story well grounded in the pseudo "science" part of its sci-fi. And then, as the curtain is slowly being pulled back, each layer is simultaneously adding to the complexity while revealing what is happening. Then you throw in a good mix of jump-from-your-seat scary moments and some funny stituational stuff, and we've got something amazing here. Potential GOTY, as long as this story holds up and the ending is decent. And hopefully I don't get that game saving bug, 30 hours in, that IGN is reporting.

I LOLed at the lab room with all the "Not a Mimic" sticky notes. classic stuff.
