I didn't notice that locker until about the third time I went back to his office. I had found the one in the Security Office though, had started to upgrade it but I had to keep the shiny new one instead!

Anyway add me to the voices saying this is a great game. After I had bought it I was on Facebook and there was an Xbox Magazine post about it and all the comments were talking about was how it looked and it was crap and they were glad they had just tried the demo. I agree it's not the best looking game but I'm having a blast playing it. Vibes I get from it are Bioshock, Dead Space, Dishonored and F.E.A.R. and a lot of RPG elements with all the upgrades and skill trees. Dead Space had some anti gravity sections but nothing like this. And I've jumped more than a few times. Feel it's pretty hard at times and I'm playing on Normal. I like the recycling and making what you need.
The game does not look bad at all. I think it looks good. I don't believe anything that comes from social media anymore

I don't think it looks like crap, was saying what a lot on that post on Facebook were saying. I agree that it's not the best looking game out right now but certainly better than some current games. There were a lot of "glad I tried the demo 'cause the game sucks" type of comments. I had just barely started the game at that point and I said to my husband that I was enjoying it quite a bit and it just keeps getting better and better.

I had a couple of experiences in the game that were "oh crap" moments - I came across a couple of enemies that I wasn't prepared for, not enough ammo and too fast and strong to take out with my wrench so I ran, I came to some lifts and used the lift and ran some more and figure I was safe, I turned around only to see that the enemies chased me to the lifts and used them to follow me, ran back to the lift and saw another one coming down the other side and went back up - they still got me - really felt like I was being hunted! Haven't ever really experienced it to that degree in any other game. So yeah, I agree this could be the best game out so far this year!

I know what you're saying and wasn't implying that you thought that. I just laugh at these people who get in these sites and spread that stuff. They're entitled to their opinion but most of the time I think it's said to get a rise out of people.

Game looks badass. Almost like Half Life 2 but actually delivers on the hype.
It really does TD. It doesn't hold your hand either. If you like a challenge this would be it. I'm playing on normal and having a helluva time but it's fun.

Thanks for the feedback on the game, MCPO. That's helpful.

You're welcome, Andy.

I don't post much here, but really couldn't help myself with Prey. For old-school System Shock fans, this is as good as it gets, and hopefully it sells enough copies to encourage Arcane to make a Prey 2 (for real, this time, lol).

With a lot of games (good ones even), I find that they start out with a bang, you play them for 5-10 hours, but then their core mechanics and story start to wear thin and get so repetitive that you have to push yourself to reach the finish line. Prey is so different. While the initial few hours of gameplay are good, its multi-faceted gameplay and complex storyline just keep getting better and better for me, to where I'm actually MUCH more invested 10 hours in then I was before. It just seems like every detail in this game matters or has purpose. That says a lot to me about the quality in its crafting.

If you're looking for a complex, meaty world to explore and get lost in, this is a jewel of a game.

So, DF analysis is back. No difference between PS4 and Pro versions even though the game says "Pro Enhanced" on the back cover. LOL, f*ck you Arkane.

Where are you at in this game? I'm fighting through deep storage.

A little example of situations you can find yourself in.... I got locked in a location with no ammo or healthpacks. I had a little gloo and enemies essentially everywhere. Thought I was stuck and was thinking I had to reload an old save. But I after looking around in a room, I found some duct work I could use the gloo gun on and climb into a vent which led into an otherwise locked room. The was an electrical panel that was shorted out and was emitting some sparks. Pulled out my trusty nerf gun and was shooting rubber arrows around the panel. The baddies would go investigate and electrocute themselves. Problem fixed and resumed my exploring.

Funny, i think I'm not much ahead of you. I'm now in the Arboretum/greenhouse. I just went through deep storages/G.U.T.S, had the same crazy experiences with the little aliens. Got them to chase after debris that I launched into fire (spouting from a gas line that I shot holes into). It brought a smile to my face. :)

I threw fuel canisters that were floating around at those things that launches those little bastards and started a chain reaction by blowing holes in those gas lines. Lol

I read that the early sales for the game in the UK were very low and that saddens me so damn much. Because this game is fantastic and it surprised the hell out of me. When they announced it and the months leading up to release I didn't care one bit for it. But that demo did it for me.

Apparently Dishonored 2 also didn't sell all that great which is a damn shame and I wonder what is causing this. I would HATE to see games like these eventually not being made anymore. Today with the bad bad news about IO and Hitman, who's next? Nah man! :(

Timing is probably part of the problem. Dishonored 2 was out during the busy fall and with Prey so many are probably still busy with HZD or BOTW and others, been a great 2017 for games.

Though i do think Bethesda's new policy of not sending out early copies is biting them in the ass. They are probably afraid of 7's but in reality that's probably a good enough score for most of us interested in said game. By obfuscating the quality of the game until after that initial new game impulse phase is over they are probably hurting sales more than helping, especially since there is something vying for attention every week now.

I can't fault the he score if it's a game breaking bug. Depending on the patch situation I might very well be asking for a refund if it happened to me. It's still a great game though.

Loved the first one and this one sounds great. Thanks for the impressions! Will be picking up.

after finishing it and taking some time to reflect back, I'd probably give Prey an 8.5 or 9. Really good game with just a few negatives. The story and the way it developed was top-notch. The space station was impressive and believable, a realistic environment that strongly contributes to your emotional attachment to its world and your suspension of disbelief. I found myself actually caring about the other crew members, both living and dead, trying to piece together their backstories through Prey's various narrative techniques (although I could see how this could grow tedious for some). I really liked its "open" environment -- yes it's just a space station but I found it so much more nuanced/interesting than Bioshock, which often draws a comparison, and much more alive/believable than anything one would more readily associate with "open world," like GTA and Skyrim, games that may be king of the real estate but are no where near as detailed or convincing. And within Prey's limited open, story-driven world, I really appreciated the lack of handholding that went on and the multiple ways of tackling most situations. Just a really fun experience for me. Fun weapons, fun powers to experiment with, and a fun story to unravel all the way to the end.

As great of an experience as it was, Prey wasn't perfect. Some have commented that the enemy AI is lacking, and I would tend to agree. It's not that they're not fun or interesting (they are), but the enemies just don't act that smart sometimes. This leads to player advantages that can lessen the experience. For example, I completed the game on the next-to-hardest level, and, well it really wasn't that hard, once I fully knew what I was up against and how I could exploit their shortcomings in logic. A definite letdown in a mostly otherwise brilliant game. While I love what Arcane was going for with their alien family, and I applaud the symbiosis that they created between the Typhon subspecies, there's no doubt this game would have benefited from better AI coding.

The other letdown for me was the terrible framerates I experienced a few times in the latter half of the game when entering into some of the bigger open spaces. Granted, I played this on my Xbox, so this may be a moot point on the PC, but the game occasionally turned into a short-lived slideshow when trying to do a 180. Not good. (Interestingly, restarting the game or the console would largely clean this up.)

And that's about it. I loved the game but it's maybe not the System Shock killer I thought it had the chance to be early on. Shodan trumps Typhon. However, there's so much to like in Prey, and so much to build upon, that it deserves a round two.

Fantastic game but I gotta wonder about the timing for a multiplayer mode, especially for a game this old. I'm against most rereleases but a "deluxe" edition would've been a decent way to drum up interest before sending it out.

Oh well. Bring on prey 2 (2)

I am late to the party but got this game on steam after youtube recommendations of great single-player fps. The 70% holiday discount on steam sealed the deal.

What a great game. I put about 9 hours into the game. Yes, the visual is a bit dull, but it's believable, & the Metroidvania/Dues Ex level & skill design are really nice. & you never feel safe & have too many rounds to go nuts, or too little playing that you need to play hide & seek. at least at this stage of my gameplay.

I bought it dirt cheap ages ago but have yet to start it
It's one of the better games I played in ages. Combining many genres. A bit of resident evil, a bit of dead space, Deus Ex & Metroidvania, dishonored (Dev from Arkane) & they all integrating well. The game will not feature on DF graphics of the year shortlist but it's still looking pretty decent & nailed the space horror/isolation feel. Also, it runs like a charm & so far pretty much bug & crashes free.

A lot of backtracking through & there is no fast travel.

Once you're done with the main game, I'd strongly encourage you (and anyone else) to try the DLC expansion game, Prey: Mooncrash. I liked it as much as the main game, maybe more. If you like rogue type games, you will love it.

The game is so good. Exploration is rewarding & fun, unlike many games that make it feel like a chore. I think what makes exploration fun is it is not cover every corner of the ground to hit all the map icons like many open-world games. Exploration often required effort & some clever trick like turning into a cup & roll into a small opening. Using Gloo gun to make ladders. Stacking boxes to go higher, read documents to get passwords.

I wished there is fast travel though as you need a lot of backtracking especially if you missed something. I think I have spent 20min backtracking to get a fabrication plan I missed.

The game runs like a charm. You can practically save anytime, even mid-combat. Why can't other games be like that. Often after I finish a battle, I though I lose too much health or ammo, & will reload (very fast quick reload) to see if I can squeeze less ammo & use less heal. Not that it is strictly necessary, as I am packed with so much resources, but still I like to squeeze as much juice out, so I can spend my mats on nercomod or weapon upgrade kit for more yummy skills instead of ammo & medkit.

Anyway, I played about 22 hours & only about halfway in the story. The game is pretty beefy if you explore & do the side missions.
