The Nintendo Switch live stream topic

Yeah, the more I think about it, I'm passing on the Switch for the near future. Maybe when the software catches up it might be worthwhile but with Zelda hitting the Wii U at the same time I don't see a reason to pick up new hardware. I want Xenoblade 2 but it looks like a downgrade from Xenoblade Chronicles X and what they were able to do on the Wii U.

Why buy an Xbox One S then? It's going to be the 360 in a few months.

The Switch has the X1 S and vanilla PS4 on the ropes. Sony and Microsoft will fight the power battle while devs focus on fun games for the Switch. That's how they beat them with the Wii.

This time next year most publishers will have left the switch

I hope the Switch is a smashing success and a rebirth for fun. But attracting third parties is going to be tough unless it really becomes big.

I was disappointed that Nintendo didn't show any 2d games of their own. The Square Enix game looked beautiful. But something I would never buy.

What I know

  • $300 price tag
  • 2 1/2 - 6 hour battery life( Playing Zelda last 2 1/2 - 3 hours)
  • Online has paid Sub
  • Voice Chat
  • Some games like Mario Odeyssey, Splatoon 2, FIFA, Super Street 2, Mario Kart 8, Super Bomberman R, etc
  • Play Modes: TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode.
  • No region lock

Bout all I can think of.

-1 launch game announced?
-joycon controllers can work like wii-motes, has hd rumble (something something ice cubes)
-everything is overpriced
-I'm not sure but i think they announced some game by having a guy come on stage, mumble some s*** and show a single drawing of a character (did i imagine this? )
-skyrim
-some Sega guy came and stood on stage, then left
-techno dj before the show was awesome, probably worth watching that couple minutes before it starts and goes to some guy who kills the mood
-square Enix with new rpg with new graphical style (it's 2d with quality lighting effects and depth of field)
-splatoon 2
-mario takes Manhatten
-ea bringing mad support with fifa
-i think there's a share button? MS the only game in town losing now
-ultra street fighter 2 hd?
-you can try switch at some locations or something at some point... i think people already started lining up
-online fee that comes with 1 free 30 day trial of a particular nes or snes rom per month, only free during that month

Yeahhhh. Was really excited for the Switch before this reveal. Now I'm not so sure. The lack of launch games is depressing. Sounds like they are relying on just Zelda to carry the system!??

Anyway thanks for the cliff notes guys.

You guys are great. The disrespect Nintendo gets for saving gaming is just pathetic. Give it a chance before you leave them for dead.

The only reason why you have your Scorpio and Pro or even your glorious PC is because of Nintendo. Everyone grew up a Nintendo fan, or Sega. But likely a Nintendo fan and yet you hate on them. Makes no sense.

Because they have lost the plot...and gamers and for what this is everything is over priced

If they lost the plot then i don't want to know what Microsoft is doing right now. It's sad that an underpowered console has a better 2017 lineup than Scorpio does. Nintendo is supposedly on the brink of going out of business but yet here they are still creating unique games and releasing new hardware.

Nintendo isn't above criticism just as Microsoft and Sony isn't. But they have their own path and I hope that they are successful. I doesn't mean we have to walk down that path with them.

At this point for me. PS VR is looking more attractive for my dollars. I'm torn.

299 and paid online?

Absolutely no thanks. This is legit not enticing at all. Nintendo has lost their marbles.

Better line up? As in ports of Wii U games.... xbox beats that with BC.

You can buy an xbox or PS4 with a game for less than it costs just to buy the Switch itself

Not only BC, but better performing BC in some cases. Like Lost Odessy and BioShock.

I, like some others, felt kinda sad for Ninty on while watching this. Reading the GAF presentation forums is fascinating to see the Uber-Hype drop through the floor. There were still some guys thinking it would be PS4 power with all these old IPs announced. When some people saw the cowboy and started yelling "Red Dead!", I just felt sad. It obviously wasn't (no face scars), but the hope was strong. Then it turned into a "who can point at each other while looking into their eyes" game... Yikes.

I definitely think something like that would be fun with the kids, but with Scorpio out this year.... It'll have to wait. 300 is too much for a side console.

I give up though. Not trying to sell anyone on the Switch. If you want to play some of the best exclusive games you need a Nintendo console. It's always been that way.

I tried telling you guys i was a Nintendo fanboy. But you kept calling me a pony. So it is what it is. Enjoy your weekend. I'm out.

No one calls you that because you flip flop every other week so no one actually pays attention when you call one the best

Yeah, and you can wait until 2019 to play some new games.

I don't know why you and Sasquatch are on the BC kick. Like it's new releases or something. I'd rather play new games and Zelda alone is better than Microsoft and Sony's 2017 lineup combined honestly.

Not sure where you are getting 2019. Is that when Ninty releases their next batch of First party games? MS and Sony will dwarf this machine in new releases. First and third party. Just because you don't particularly like their first party offerings doesn't mean they aren't releasing anything others are into. It's not a good argument to get into, but they definitely have a different line-up, for better or worse.

I agree that Zelda is a Killer app. If it weren't wrapped in Nintendo Hardware with very likely anemic support, I'd be all over it, sadly. The Square-Enix game looks cool, but I never get into those kinds of games for long anymore. The Arms game looks like it could be fun in short bursts, but it's Wii fodder imo. Who knows, maybe it has surprising depth. Mario could be good, but damn, that Modern City world sucked all the soul out of it. Was hard to watch that bit. The 1 2 Switch thing would be fun with the kiddos, but it's more like a gimmicky kids toy.

The silver lining for me is it may just edge us closer to a 3rd party Nintendo. I'd love to have Zelda on proper Hardware.

Yeesh, so don't keep the NES game each month? It rotates like the EA Service?! So each month you get access to one free game.. for that month.. for the online subscription fee, that has no big MP games like BF or COD? It better be like, a dollar.

Also looks like the Voice chat will be through an app on your Phone/smart device, and sounds like they will charge you for it when the service launches in the Fall?

It says

Online lobby and voice chat
Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games─all from your smart device.

A free, limited version of this app will be available for download in summer 2017.

Yeesh.

Another live stream going on....

Going to be very expensive to get the full experience

Also the guy's hosting it are as always cringe worthy

But you don't even need a Nintendo Switch to play Nintendo Switch's only launch game?

That is pretty bad. I'd rather play online on the PS2.

Honestly if Mario or Splatoon 2 was the launch title I would be down for grabbing a Switch. But at this point waiting until at least Splatoon 2 is going to be my plan. And I guess it works out as I don't have to worry about a fake shortage (although who knows if that will happen now) and lets me finish up the games I still have on the Wii U.

Its probably 6 with 1, 2 Switch.

Actual games though are going to be on the lower end. Zelda and Splatoon 2 are probably around there.

It launches on Wii U on the same date = maybe not buy new hardware

The game does look pretty good though. Looks to be running a lot smother as well.
up to 6 like I said but you left it out

Weakest launch line up ever....

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • 1-2 Switch
  • Super Bomberman R
  • Skylanders Imaginators
  • Just Dance 2017

I will be laughing when xbd Scorpio gets outsold by switch and for the fact that ms will never make a game as good as Zelda.

I would certainly expect a $300 Nintendo handheld to sell better than a $400-$500 mid-gen upgrade.

But if it doesn't. Then there will be laughter.

I didn't get to watch this, did they actually say anything about Dragon Quest?
