The Official E3 2017 Thread

Honestly just thinking about I don't expect Microsoft to announce many new I.P at E3. I mean why would they? They have released stuff like Ryse, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum break etc and none of them have ever been successful enough for them. Heck even thinking about last gen only Gears, Forza Horizon and Crackdown were their major success that they actually made and invested in sequels. I can honestly understand their aversion to new I.P as Xbox gamers just do not seem to support them. When you compare it to the Playstation I bet the successes of Horizon,Bloodborne and Until Dawn to a lesser extent will have reinvigorated Sony's focus on new I.P. And last gen they had Uncharted, TLOU, Infamous, Resistance, LBP, Heavy Rain etc. I can understand Sony's focus on new I.P as Playstation gamers seem to actually support them whereas Xbox gamers from the sales do not.

I don't even care about new IPs to be honest. One or two would be nice but if they come out and show a new Conker, Banjo, or MechAssault at E3 i'll explode in my pants. I'll have new underwear waiting as i think this is Microsoft's year to steal the show.

Well you are making the assumption that a sequal = successful and any game that didn't get one was unsuccessful. Which simply isn' t true. Not to mention that things change depending on who is in charge.

Games like Blue Dragon & Lost Odyssey were highly touted successes for MS, even. though they didn't sell as well as gams like Gears.

Ryse not getting a sequel is more due to its owner Crytek and. their lol worthy business decisions. Lets also not forget that MS did try to buy the IP.

Alan Wake not getting a sequal seems to be down to Remedy wanting to try new things.

You said they don't sell well, but nowadays it is nearly impossible to get accurate sales figures.

Lets also not forget that a large portion of exclusives are not done in house and come from third parties.

I hope Microsoft shows new IP's. New hardware is cool and all. But we need new games to play on it.
They will. They have to. All we have is Sea of Theives, Forza 7 and Crackdown. We all ready know there will be no Halo or Gears announcments.

3 games and some indies isn't good enough. I am expecting atleast two new game announcements, one of which is a new IP.

Not to mention MS doesn't release the sales numbers so we have no idea how they sold. Sunset Overdrive must have done well for example because Insomniac said they would make a Sunset 2 if MS goes forward with it.

Have to disagree with this since we know they wanted to make it before doing QB. I know Spencer said something about them having to want to make it but that is because Remedy owns the IP.

I mention sequels because that is generally a pretty good idea of how successful a game or franchise is. There are exceptions like Nier, Knack, etc but generally if a game does not get a sequel it is because it was not a big enough success. If QB or Sunset were major successes they would have sequels in the works. As not for not done in-house only applies to Microsoft. Nintendo and Sony have most of their exclusives from their first party studios. The main point was though I could understand why Microsoft has been doubling down of Halo,Gears and Forza because they have taken gambles with new I.P that were not successful but I want distinguish something here. They might have been successful but they were not successful enough for MS to get a sequel. I think there is a valid discussion to be had on how much sales Microsoft want from a new I.P.

Something is indisputable MS needs new game announcements period. Since Gamescon 2015 they have only announced Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4 and State of Decay 2 as big new announcements. Unless people can think of more? That is quite frankly awful compared to the other 2 manufacturers. In that period Nintendo has had multiple directs,E3 and the switch event. Sony has he E3 and two PSX's. Both announced plenty of new titles.

When can you play those PSX games though. Alot will be 2018.

It doesn't really matter when they announce them. If there was ever a year to save for a big E3 this is it.

So? Its not like 2017 hasn't been pretty busy.

I might be in the minority but I don't want to see MS announce more new IPs unless they struck a deal with a big time studio like they did back in the day with Bioware and Epic. I would be more excited to see MS reboot older IPs or start to maximize the potential of upcoming sequels with some gameplay evolution. They have enough IPs to compete with anyone. They simply under-utilize them. The closest thing to a new IP I'd like to see is a Shadowrun RPG. Otherwise begin the reboot process of Perfect Dark, Crimson Skies, Mech Assault, Banjo and Battletoads. All those seem obvious, would offer fan service and have the potential of becoming a commercial successes. A lot of people would also be very happy with Sunset Overdrive, Alan Wake, Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon sequels. I think they need to insert a 3rd racing game into their rotation because Forza burnout is setting in regardless of how great those games are. PGR or a Burnout knockoff utilizing cloud physics would be great. I would also be excited to hear that Halo or Gears will evolve into something more than corridor shooters. MS should kill two birds with one stone and reinvigorate those franchises while promoting Azure with cloud based features.

No matter what they do people will still complain. It's really a no win situation for Microsoft. They try to push new IPs like Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break and people don't buy them. Usually the people who ask for them are the biggest culprits. It's just a way of hating on the brand.

They definitely could be doing more but the games they do have are fantastic and i really wouldn't change much about the Xbox brand at this point. At the end of the day, they know their audience and they cater to that audience. The western audience. If you want JRPGs and all that other niche stuff then get a PS4. Nobody is stopping you.

Eh, Nintendo has Zelda, and it's an (excellent)holdover from the Wii U. Xenoblade sequel looks cool, but after that? You get Splatoon 2 and Mario, then you will be in drought mode again if historic precedent persists. I would view Nintendo's recent release schedule with skepticism.

I agree MS could step up new IP announcements, but they do release quality games, and Scorpio will take the third party crown. I am dying to see Shadow of War on it!

Kinect Milk-A-Cow 2017. Moo-gaton.

I think there is room for those kinds of games, but they are short, and only interesting in specific social situations. I do think Nintendo will be a success if they incorporate their mobile content, regardless of how not-for-me it is...

I remember thinking how badly Microsoft got outclassed last E3. Even though I probably ended up buying just as many exclusives on X1 than PS4 throughout the year.

Sony just has a way of presenting their future even if you have wait awhile. Sometimes a loooong while.

Hopefully Microsoft comes out swinging this year.

E3 2013 I thought was a s*** show. E3 2016, MS came out swinging and it was game after game after game. One of their best presentations that I remember. I hope they continue with the premise of showing games games games as they have been promising.

Well, the reveal event in May was horrid. They TRIED to redeem themselves at E3 (and they did do better), but they were still tied down to TV and Kinect features. At least they didn't hire the Beatles on stage to do cover songs of Justin Bieber's greatest hits.

With what? Games that are near generations away? lol. Not a dig on PS - genuine question.

A conference that didn't focus a decent amount on games that were 2018+ would be pretty boring despite how much people harp on that around here.

This is always a classic response to Microsoft's lack of games. Sorry man, but if they had more to show they'd show them 2 years in advance just like Sony does.

Thats not what my response was about. (Fuking Scalebound gets canceled and MF's lose their fuking minds...) And who the hell wants to know about a game two years away? Hell, we dont even know if we'll be here in two years. WTF?!

I do. If E3 comes and passes and there is nothing new on the radar outside of what we already know, my already low interest in Scorpio drops even further. I don't mind waiting on a title as for me personally I can see a reveal trailer, do a PogChamp, and then forget about it until a couple months from release. Now lets say they go through E3 and it's great, but there's something missing. Then Spencer comes out at the end, rips off his shirt to reveal his glistening, bulging muscles and a KOTOR 3 full body tattoo I'll lose my s***, even if it means the game isn't launching until fall 2018.

If he doesn't also show off a matching "The Dark Side" tramp stamp, do.not.want.

Exactly, never understood what the big deal was about them showing games 1-2 years in advance. If you buy a console, chances are you'd want to know what the future holds. Maybe i'm way off base, i don't know. I mean, if the game is very early in development maybe it's better to hold off and wait. I get that part of it. Let's pump the brakes though.

Like for example Scalebound or even Death Stranding. Kojima is doing DS though, and people trust him to get the game out and that it will be quality. People buy consoles knowing the games they really want are years off but they know they're coming. It's called investing in an ecosystem. If you know PS4 has more games and that's your focus, you're probably more likely to choose PS4. If you like multiplayer titles and media features then maybe Xbox One is your choice and you don't care what's coming in the future.

This holiday is going to be insane, which means E3 is going to be ginormous.

BTW, did anyone else get an invite to the Xbox Presser from Windows Insider Program?

This really should be an amazing E3 for multiplats alone. Ironically Xbox gamers will have to watch Sonys show to see what they'll be playing this Fall. Damn all those marketing deals.
